RACE TO THE TOP

We have reviewed the numbers and there’s more to report than just the incredibly close race for the first and second positions in the national rankings. While, the Pointer, CH Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry, and the Giant Schnauzer, CH Galilee's Pure Of Spirit, duke it out some 40,000 points in front of the rest of the field (You know, that’s like lapping someone in a marathon), the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug sits securely in third place more than 7,000 points ahead of the Standard Poodle, CH Randenn Tristar Affirmation.

However, Yes is closely followed by the Brussels Griffon, CH Cilleine Masquerade, who, on the strength of his BIS in Illinois on Sunday, took over the number five spot from the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe's Hidalgo At Goodspice. The Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, 20,000 points behind Charmin, has no chance of catching the number one Terrier, but is a comfortable 5,000 points ahead of the Harrier, CH Downhome Family Tradition. Coda, the Scottish Deerhound, CH Jaraluv’s Ouija, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Coventry Vanity Fair, are all guaranteed a top ten finish, but anyone of them could pass the other two before the week is out.

CH Smash Jp Win A Victory
AKC Top Dog 2007

As much as we love the national rankings, ask yourself who was number one dog in 2007? Uh, uh, let me think…it was CH Smash Jp Win A Victory, the top winning Toy Poodle of all time. Now let me ask you, who won Westminster earlier this year? Now coming up with the name of the 15 inch Beagle, CH K-Run's Park Me In First, better known as Uno, didn’t take you nearly as long, did it? We won’t bother reminding you that Charmin was last year’s winner at the Eukanuba National Championship. We don’t disparage Vikki’s accomplishments. She remains one of our favorites of recent years. We simply make the point that the national rankings don’t move us nearly as much as the individual moments that go into those rankings. Go out to an AKC dog show and get your own moment to treasure this weekend.

  1. Love your blog! Just a quick correction. Uno is a 15" beagle.

  2. I misread the reference and omitted the "OVER" 13 inch prefix. Thank you for keeping us on our toes. I have corrected the error. And we are sooo pleased you like our blog.
