From Augusta NJ and day two of the Palisade’s Kennel Club, it was day one all over again with BIS judge Karen Wilson handing the Irish Setter, GHC CH Shadagee, Caught Red Handed, her second top prize in as many days.  Four more of Friday’s finalists made it back for a second round, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Pekingese, CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Bulldog, GCH CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins. MEET THE BREEDS IN NYC

If you are near New York City this weekend, don’t miss the American Kennel Club and Cat Fanciers Association’s masterful collaboration, Meet The Breeds.  It’s two days of the best pet education and dazzling animal beauty.   It’s all at the Jacob Javits Center on 11th Ave between 35th & 36th Streets.   There will be breed booths where the public can get up close & personal with the best that the AKC & CFA have to offer.  You won’t get a better opportunity to ask breed experts about the history & characteristics of their breeds.  There will also be over 100 vendor booths with just about everything for pets and their owners.  Don‘t miss the five demonstration rings featured law enforcement K9s, grooming, agility, obedience and the ‘Cat Idol’ showcase.  You get read more on the AKC's site.

We applaud the National Breed Clubs and individuals who have taken the time out from their show schedules to participate in the event.  It’s not easy to schlep all that stuff to Manhattan and spend all day.  These folks are real ambassadors for their breeds.

WE GOT A MILLION OF 'EM!

We’ve been so  busy trying to keep up with all the excitement in the AKC dog show world, we have just missed a major milestone.  We have passed the 1,000,000 page view marker here at Dog Show Poop.  Because we don’t get paid to do this we don’t pay a lot of attention to our blog statistics, but when we checked today we found that we have had visitors from six continents, 161 countries, and all 51 states here in the USA.

This site is a labor of love and we have a lot of fun doing it.   We thank all of our readers for participating so enthusiastically on the blog.  Our readers are the reason this site has become so popular with dog fanciers.  Most importantly, we have found that our love of dogs is shared by people from every walk of life and every place on the planet.  Do you suppose that the United Nations would work a little better if they only allowed dog owners to be delegates?

FALL FOILAGE OR DESERT SUNSETS?

 New Mexico Sunset

Fanciers will have a lot of choices this week on where to spend their dog show dollars, with 35 shows in 13 locations.  Residents of the New York Metropolitan area can head to August NJ for four days of fall colors with the Palisades Kennel Club & the Ramapo Kennel Club, running Friday through Monday.

Mid Atlantic enthusiasts have the option of the same four days in West Friendship MD with the Catonsville Kennel Club & the Maryland Kennel Club or the standard two days in Wilmington NC with the Hanover Kennel Club.  If you want to extend your summer fun try the Suwannee Valley Kennel Club Of Florida’s two shows in Lake City FL near Jacksonville.

Here in Tennessee the action is in Music City (that’s Nashville to non-Country Music fans) with the Tri-Star Kennel Club Of Williamson County Tennessee.  If you’re in the Great Lakes region there’s three shows starting Friday in Urbana OH courtesy of the Mad River Valley Kennel Club & the Licking River Kennel Club.  In the Heartland head to Mason City IA for a weekend with the hometown Mason City Kennel Club.

South Central residents have a lot of ground to cover and a lot of options this weekend.  There’s two in Enid OK hosted by the Sooner State Kennel Club, two in Canton TX with the Tyler Texas Kennel Club, or two in Los Lunas NM thanks to Valencia Valley Kennel Club Of New Mexico.  If you are a Toy Dog fancier get there early for the New Mexico Toy Group Club’s two shows on Thursday & Friday.

This week those west of the Rockies will have a lot of choices.  There’s the Black Mountain Kennel Club Of Nevada’s two shows in Primm NV south of Las Vegas, two in southern California with the Cabrillo Kennel Club in  Del Mar near San Diego, two in northern California with the Two Cities Kennel Club in Yuba City north of Sacramento, or four day fun fest starting Thursday in Boise ID with the Idaho Capital City Kennel Club & the Lizard Butte Kennel Club.

So whether you like the brilliant colors of fall foliage or the dazzling palette of desert sunsets, you can combine some terrific landscapes with some terrific dog scapes at an AKC dog show this week.

We have been off line most of the day, after an morning visit to our local emergency room to investigate some pesky chest pains.  We agreed to stay overnight on the condition that they admit our laptop computer along with us.  So forgive us if we are a bit slower with our reports than usual over the next couple of days.

First we have a report from Blue Bell PA and the biggest of all limited breed shows, the Montgomery County Kennel Club show.  There were 2136 Terriers entered with the West Highland White Terriers in the lead with 131 entries.  Scottish Terriers were close behind with 126, and our breed, the Cairn Terrier, just after with 125.  At the end of the day, it was one of our DOGS2WATCH, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Castle Rock's Sbigstaff Mad About You, winning the Terrier world’s most coveted prize.  Rounding out the placements were the Irish Terrier, GCH CH  Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks A Peek, and the Scottish Terrier, CH Lomondview Clementina.

2010 MCKC BIS Maddy has been coming into her own lately, winning her first all breed BIS just six months ago.  Maddy was bred by Laszlo Silz Nagy & Dayna Pesenti, is owned by Dayna, Genoa Brown, & Ruth Sampson, and handled by Kim Rudzik.  A big congratulations to all of them and all the other winners at today’s Magnificent Montgomery County Kennel Club show!
