DOG2WATCH WIN

We do admit to something akin to a grandparent’s pride when one of our DOGS2WATCH wins a BIS. You get to brag to your friends about them and then send them home with the parents where they can pee on their carpet and shred their sofa pillows.

CH Jakar Winsong Elevate Your Game

Our latest vicarious pleasure is the Afghan Hound, CH Jakar Winsong Elevate Your Game. Stephen Hubbell chose “Nike” out of a group that included the Irish Setter, CH Ashton Peaceful Easy Feeling, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Pupukearidge Ikaika O Sprngvly , the Doberman Pinscher, Prefex Cyclone Mahina, the Cairn Terrier, CH Kiowa’s Andfrew Jackson, the Affenpinscher, CH Pramada’s Naughty Natalie, the Standard Poodle, CH Randenn Tristar Affirmation, and the Belgian Sheepdog, CH Isengard’s Oncore.

We think that’s pretty impressive.

SATURDAY SHAR-PEI & SMOOTH FOX

And now for some Saturday results. Once again we start in Connecticut with the St Hubert KC, but this time Catherine DiGiacomo was the judge.

Her BIS lineup included the English Setter, CH Reidwood Red Alert, the Scottish Deerhound, CH Gayleward’s TigerWoods, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Willo‘s Caught Ya Lookin’, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkein Raintree Mister Baggins.

We haven’t had a Shar-Pei win a BIS in a while. This four year old bitch is only the second this year. Congratulations to breeders Jan Kolnik & P Z Roach and owners Jan Klink & Romana Arnold.

CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice

Moving on to the Midland Michigan Kennel Club, judge Sandra Goose Allen rounded up the Golden Retriever, CH Shor’Line Jetoca High Seas Adventure RN JH, the Borzoi, CH Auroral’s Ajax, the Samoyed, CH Polar Mist X-Tasy, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, the Pomeranian, CH Velocity’s Shake Ur Bon Bon, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Bouvier Des Flandres, CH I’m Special Extreme Justice.

The Smooth Fox, Dodger, started out the year like a house afire and has more recently been burning it up, picking up two BIS last weekend. Today’s makes it eight for the year.

FRIDAY BI-COASTAL

Anytime you have a dog show anywhere close to Manhattan, you know you are going to have some stiff competition and so it was at Friday’s St Hubert Kennel Club show in North Stonington CT.

CH Fleet St Fenway Fan

Among the elegant canines in judge Madeline Fish’s ring were the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, the Longhaired Dachshund, CH Dikerdach’s Jessie, the Doberman Pinscher, Braveheart’s Colors Of The Wind V Caleb, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Willo’s Caught Ya Lokkin’, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Deja Blu Deal Me In.

BIS went to that raciest of Terriers, the Irish, Fen, his second.

Meanwhile out on the West Coast, Klamath Falls OR to be exact, the Southern Oregon KC was finishing up their second show of the weekend with Loraine Boutwell doing the BIS honors.

Her finalists were the Flat Coated Retriever, CH Starworkers Dealers Choice JH OA OAJ, the Saluki, CH Carmas Indian Summer, the Black Russian Terrier, CH Cerberus Some Like It Hot, the Colored Bull Terrier, Black Shark De Rocabull, the Affenpinscher, CH Pramada’s Naughty Natalie, the French Bulldog, CH Highwood’s Big Shot, and the Bouviers Des Flandres, CH Avalon’s Frontier Sleepnlady Webber.

Best In Show was one of the country’s many fine Bouviers out this year. Bravo to breeders Sherrod McDaniel, David & Lee Calhoun, owners Judith McConnell & Sherrod McDaniel, and handler Larry Fenner.

FRIDAY IS SADIE DAY IN GA

CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot

We do have partial results from Perry GA and Friday’s Southeast Alabama Kennel Club show. The Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, bounced back to remind everyone why she is the country’s number one dog taking another BIS. While we don’t know all the finalists, we do know that the Whippet, CH Sporting Fields Bahama Sands, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Belaluna Ferncliff Jackson, the Pug, CH Norkus Risky Business, and the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible were all in Richard Bauer’s ring. That’s some heady competition.

WE'RE BAAACK!

We have returned from Knoxville where we were attending our daughter’s graduation ceremony at the Universtiy of Tennessee. Although we took our computer with us, the hotel’s WiFi failed us last night so we are a bit behind with our show reports. So without further excuses, let’s get to them.

CH Rivergroves Trump This

First, from Ludwigs Corner PA where the Chester Valley Kennel Club kicked off the weekend on Friday. Making the call was Raymond V Filburn Jr. He chose from the Flat Coated Retriever, CH Petersfield Famous Amos, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Of Afrikka Spring Valley Dorian Gray JC, the Great Pyrenees, CH Rivergroves Trump This, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Velvety Angel Eyes, the Pekingese, CH Lin-Lee’s For The Good Times, the Keeshond, CH Sherwood’s Significant Other, and the Briard, CH Déjà vu Up Close & Personal.

DOLLY OR DOGS?

Tomorrow, the family all packs up the car for the six hour drive to Knoxville TN to attend our daughter’s graduation ceremony. The highlight of the ceremony (apart from our daughter receiving her diploma) is a honorary degree for Dolly Parton (in recognition of a life time of work disproving Newton’s laws of gravity).

For the rest of you we have this coming weekend’s dog shows. Starting tomorrow, those of you in the Pacific Northwest and the Deep South can head off to four day doggy festivals. Southerners can visit Perry GA for the Crossroads of Georgia Cluster hosted by the Columbus, Southeast Alabama, and Macon kennel Clubs. West Coast residents can motor on up to Klamath Falls OR for a quartet of shows presented by the Southern Oregon KC and the Klamath Falls DFA.

Easterners can choose between trios of shows in Pennsylvania and Connecticut. Friday and Saturday, the Chester Valley KC will host in Ludwigs Corner. Sunday Lancaster KC will move the crowd to Lebanon. The St Hubert KC will do the Friday/Saturday thing in North Stonington CT and the Windham County KC will follow up Sunday in Woodstock CT.

Midwesterners will have traditional Saturday/Sunday fare in Tallmadge OH where the Ravenna KC holds sway and in Midland MI that city kennel club will be doing the honors. Fiinally, the Scott County KC will present a pair in Rock Island IL.

South Central residents can try either the offerings of the Denton (TX) KC or the Rio Grande KC in Albuquerque NM. While Californians can head up to the Sacramento Valley where the Camellia Capital KC will post a paoir of shows in Woodland CA.

While we won’t be on site at any of these shows, we will be toting the computer with us, so if you have results send them in and we will share them with everyone. Wonder what kind of dog Dolly has?

DOUBLE HEADER IN MAINE

CH Ripsnorter's Mt View Lookout

We’ve been told that the German Wirehaired Point, CH Ripsnorter's Mt View Lookout, has taken back to back BIS at the York County Kennel Club Of Maine in Acton ME. That should put the country’s number two Sporting Dog, a couple of slots closer to a top ten all breed spot. Meanwhile, Scout’s littermate, CH Mt View's Ripsnorter Silver Charm, was keeping it in the family with a Group One at the Trenton Kennel Club show. Let’s see, we’ve had Tibetan Mastiffs, Sealyham Terriers, and Whippets all have multiple family members winning BIS. Some would call it a trend. We call it a sound breeding program.

BIS FROM THE PUPPY CLASS

Wow, this has been an interesting day, full of firsts. Now we hear that a dog from the six to nine month class has run away with the BIS at today’s Oconee River Kennel Club in Watkinsville GA with judge Thomas Kirsten making the call. The Whippet, Bo-Bett Hallmark Break Dance, known as Breaker, has been a consistent winner previously picking up two Hound Group placements.

DEERHOUND DEBUT

CH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind

We just love it when we hear about a BIS by a dog whose name is new to us. We are ashamed to admit that this one snuck under our radar. No easy task for the leggy Scottish Deerhound, CH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind. This three year old girl walked off with the top prize today at the always competitive Trenton Kennel Club show in West Windsor NJ. Our congratulations to breeders/owners Cecilia L Dove & Dr R Scott Dove and handler Angela Lloyd.

DODGER GRABS ANOTHER BIS

A reader has just told us that the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemobe Vigilante Justice, has made it two in three days, winning his second BIS in Gray Summit MO. This one came today under judge Murrel Purkhiser at the Jefferson County Kennel Club of Missouri.

CH J’Cobe Kemobe Vigilante Justice

That’s number seven for Dodger, who is leading a pack of talented Terriers chasing the number one dog in America, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot. It remains to be seen if they (or any other dog) can catch the Scottie, Sadie.

CRAWFORD COUNTY COLLIE

Well, they certainly wrapped this weekend up quickly in Bucyrus OH. The sun has not set yet and we have the results of the day two show of the Crawford County Kennel Club. Today James Frederickson was on deck for Best In Show.

CH Westwood Alladin

His lucky seven were the Weimaraner, CH Smokycity Nanis Dbl Silhouette, the Basenj, CH Klassic‘s Slam Dunk, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Irish Terrier, CH Breezy X-tra Top Priority, the Havanese, CH Qbin’s Happy Feet At Enginuity, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Vaje’s Miss Jayne Hathaway, and the Rough Collie, CH Westwood Alladin.

CRAWFORD COUNTY RESULTS

We have results from yesterday’s Crawford County Kennel Club show. No, not Crawford TX, notable only for a certain Scottie, but Bucyrus OH, some 100 miles SW of Cleveland, notable for….well, two dog shows the first weekend of May.

CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream

The judge was Barbara Dempsey Alderman and her finalists were the Weimaraner, CH Smokycity Nanis Dbl Silhouette, the Greyhound, CH Gaia Elfin Dance, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, Jollygaze Time Lord, the Chinese Crested, CH Kamikazi’s Star Kissed, the Standard Poodle, CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

GEORGIA UPDATE

CH Karma’s The Big Shot

MAKING HISTORY IN MAINE

We have a very special first to share with you. Yesterday at the York County Kennel Club of Maine show Wendy Wilhauck chose a Pyrenean Shepherd, CH Germinale de La Brise RN, as her Herding Group winner, a first for the breed. Pyrenean Shepherds have been eligible for regular classes just since 1 January.

CH Germinale de La Brise RN

The six year old “Zed” finished his championship the first week of the year and had his first Group placement by the end of the month. Zed has also won the Pyrenean Shepherd National Specialty three times. Zed’s justifiably proud breeder/owner is Patricia Princehouse, who co-owns with her parents, Fran & Joe Princehouse. Zed is handled by Jack Secrest. Our congratulations to them all.

YOU GOT TO HAVE HART

CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart

There were Terrier and Toy limited breed shows to warm up for Saturday’s Bucks County Kennel Club show in Erwinna PA, but it was a Sporting dog, the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, that caught BIS judge Terry Stacy’s eye. It was the first BIS this year for RJ, the nation’s number one Lab. Congratulations to breeder Debra Mahoney, owner Diane Ammerman, and handler Joy Quallenberg.

DOGS2WATCH

A reader asked us if we had a list of our DOGS2WATCH. For the more recent readers, we first used the designation DOGS2WATCH in a post on 8 Jan 09. Our original group were the Bedlington Terrier, CH Velvety Angel Eyes, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Vigilante Justice, the Welsh Terrier, CH Sanherpinc Paisa, the Pomeranian, CH Starlight’s Smile From Siam, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Woodside Pacino.

CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton

Since then we have added the Tibetan Mastiff, CH Drakyi Gold Standard, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Afghan Hound, CH Jakar Winsong Elevate Your Game, the 15” Beagle, CH Torquay Midnight Confession, and the Sealyham Terrier, CH Rosemont’s High Society.

CH Smash Jp Moon Walk

Some of our picks have done better than others. The Dobie, CJ, is a top five dog, the Toy Poodle, Walker is currently number six, and the Smooth Fox, Dodger, the Welsh, Paisa, and the TM, Midas, are all in the top 25. The GSD, Tony, is knocking on the door of the top 25 and the others are all showing up in our reports regularly. We wish we did this well, picking horses. Today’s Kentucky Derby winner, Mine That Bird, paid fifty to one today. We missed that one.
