BOO WINS IN MO

CH Tupelo Shoboat Tu China Tu

We have this just in, the Pug, CH Tupelo Shoboat Tu China Tu, is making a strong challenge for the number one Toy Dog title with another BIS win. This one came today at the Columbia Missouri Kennel Club show courtesy of Judge Patricia Trotter. We suspect when we total this weekend's wins we are going to find the race for a top ten spot has tightened considerably.

MOON OVER KANSAS

CH Moongaze Jomyr Some Splainin' Ta Do

You know, we love it when an fancier sends us in a show report because they are excited that someone who owns the same breed as they went BIS. So, thank you, Jodi Ellison of Windsheen Whippets, for telling us that the Whippet, CH Moongaze Jomyr Some Splainin' Ta Do, went Best In Show under Judge Patricia Hess at the day two show of the Garden City Kansas Kennel. Luna, a four year old bitch, was bred by Aaron Todd Miller MD, Terri Motola & Mary Graham, is owned by Dr. Miller & Sheila Feldman, and handled bhy Barbara Wayne. Congratulations to them all on Luna’s BIS and, again correct us if we are wrong, her first all breed BIS ever!

PALM BEACH'S NEW YORK CONNECTION

The season is waning in Palm Beach, but snowbird New Yorkers were still in evidence on the first day of the Palm Beach County Dog Fanciers Association show. One even managed to run away with Best In Show.

CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman

Judge Donald Booxbaum assembled the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Adesa‘s The Heat Is On, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Modrian V H Lamslag RE, the Standard Poodle, CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Rollingview Beat of My Heart.

The three year old, bred and owned by Eugene Z Zaphiris & Matthew H Stander of New York, NY and handled by Lawrence W Cornelius, also won the all Terrier Everglades Terrier Club show the day before. And, correct us if we are wrong, but we believe this is his first BIS. Congratulations!

SAX IN SAN ANTONIO

CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible

We just returned from a rare night out for dinner to find that we have dog show results to pass along. Down in San Antonio on day two of the Kennel Club Of Greater Victoria shows, Judge Dr Luc Boileau tapped the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresisible, for her fifth Best In Show this year. “Sax” is arguably the surrogate canine for the National Organization for Women with a team of seven female co-owners, breeder/owners Connie Dubois & Dr. Cindi Bossart, co-owners Nancy Comparato, Debbie Green, Jennifer Mosing, Dr. Stacy Smith and Leah Warner. Handler Brian Livingston and breeder James Efron must feel a little like Tom Hanks in the movie, A League of their Own. All teasing aside, congratulations to them all. We are feeling a little bit of a Herding Group momentum here. Can’t wait to add up this week’s points.

MORE CRUFTS RESULTS

We just watched the Toy Group judging at Crufts and were thrilled to see our American dogs represented once again. Although no AKC dog got a group placement, making the cut was the Prince of Pekingese, Hiram Stewart with CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar. Congratulations to Hiram and breeder/owner John Shaw.

CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar

SCARLETT TAKES NASHVILLE

This weekend in Nashville you can go to the Grand Ole Opry and see Ricky Skaggs and Carrie Underwood or you can make a trip to the suburb of Franklin TN and see over a 1,000 beautiful AKC purebred dogs.

It was the first BIS for the 22 month old bitch. Congratulations to breeders Tina Porter & Lee Stanton, owners D McCarroll, M Fagan, Mrs J Billhardt, S Tenenbaum, and handler Diego Fernando Garcia.

SHAR PEI AT THE ALAMO

Here we are in the second weekend in March and we are already starting to see some of the same dogs appearing in BIS ring after BIS ring. However, we still have some fresh faces to surprise us each show.

And so it was in Judge Lester Mapes final seven at the Kennel Club of Greater Victoria in San Antonio TX yesterday. Standing for consideration were the Field Spaniel, CH Bitterblue's Here Comes Da Judge, the Whippet, Starline's Haute Couture At Starseeker, the Boxer, CH Bravo N Sunset Stealing Time, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Chaoyang's Chick Magnet At Asia, and the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresisible.

AMERICANS INVADE CRUFTS

No group epitomizes the British dog fancy like the Terrier Group. Most of the 27 Terrier breeds hail from the British Isles. So we proudly report that two AKC dogs went Best and Reserve (second) in today’s Terrier Group at the world’s largest dog show, Crufts. The Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Hidalgo At Goodspice, was selected Best In Group and the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, was awarded Reserve. Now, we are aware that Sealie, Charmin, was born in Canada, but we are counting him as one of our own.

We found that the Crufts website, like our Jaguar, is not the most reliable vehicle, but we did find these two links of interest. You can get Crufts results here and, streaming live TV (take that BBC!) here.

ALAMO OR SPACE NEEDLE?

In some parts of the country the dog show weekend has already started. Just up the road from us in the Music City of Nashville TN, the four day Country Music Cluster begins today in Franklin TN hosted by the Nashville Kennel Club show and the Tullahoma Kennel Club Of Tennessee. Also beginning today is the Alamo City Cluster in San Antonio TX, also running four days. The San Antonio Kennel Club and the Kennel Club Of Greater Victoria will do the honors.

The Alamo, San Antonio, Texas

Three day clusters starting tomorrow are slated for Garden City Kansas and Auburn IN. The Garden City Kennel Club will host the former and Laporte County and Logansport KCs will share the latter. Out on the west coast San Francisco residents can drive the 800 miles north to the Seattle Kennel Club (WA) Saturday/Sunday double header or 400 miles to the south to the Apple Valley Kennel Club shows in Victorville CA.

NEW NUMBER ONE?

CH Roundtown Mercedes At Maryscot

We had almost forgotten that the fun at the Scottsdale Dog Fanciers Association extended into Monday. Yesterday Judge Ruth Zimmerman assembled some of the nation’s finest dogs for a go over. The Golden Retriever, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, the Black & Tan Coonhound, CH Silver Ridge Showtyme At Windbourne, the Rottweiler, CH Nighthawk’s Born For Highwood the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes At Maryscot, the Italian Greyhound, CH Honere’s Lily-Belle, the Bichon Frise, CH Paray’s Rime Time, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Conventry Vainity Fair all made it to the final seven.

The weekend ended as it began, with the Scottie, Sadie, winning a BIS. We won’t be certain for a few days, but we may have a new number one dog. And as always, you will read about it here first.

A PUPPY TO TURN HEADS

We don’t often take note of a Puppy BIS win, but here’s one we thought you might find interesting. While perusing the Detroit kennel Club show results, I noticed that a Scottish Deerhound dog, Lehigh Ennis Carmichael, was selected Best Puppy In Show. "Ennis", bred by Paula Pascoe & Pam Smithson, owned by Paula & her husband, Grant Winchell, and handled by Grant, was sired by CH Jaraluv Michael out of CH Lehigh Darkwynd Caragh.

Lehigh Ennis Carmichael

Both sire and dam are multiple BIS winners. Deerhound fans may recognize CH Jaraluv Michael as the sire of the top winning Scotttish Deerhound in history, CH Jaraluv Ouija, who brought us so many memorable appearances this past year, including a Group One at the 2008 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. At only seven months old, we may be looking at one of next year’s top ten dogs. It may be a little too early to call Ennis a DOG2WATCH, but it’s not too early to say congratulations to Paula Pascoe, Pam Smithson, and Grant Winchell and good luck with this eye catching boy.

SOURMUG IN SEACAUCUS

Our AKC computer elves have been at it again. We no can tell you what went down in Seacaucus NJ this weekend. Saturday it was the Monticello New York Kennel Club with Judge Chuck Winslow making the call.

It was the second BIS this year for the Beardie, Roy. Is it just us or are there suddenly a lot of Herding Dogs trying to et in the top ten?

CH Keply’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle

Sunday it was the Kennel Club Of Northern New Jersey and Judge Ron Menaker doing BIS duty. He had three of the same dogs to consider the Wolhound, the Peke, and the Beardie as well as the Brittany, CH Tonan-Hope’s R U Kiddin’ Me, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Avalon Eclipse, and the Bulldog, CH Keply’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle. This is shaping up to be a very interesting year.

MEET US IN ST LOUIS, LOUIS

IMPRESSIVE I-5 CROWD

As we told you there is the I-5 Rest Stop Cluster going on In Hanford CA (OK that’s just a joke, so don’t you Californians go get huffy on me. We were one of you for twenty years). Half way in between San Francisco and Los Angeles, these shows are, at least, convenient. Saturday was day one of the King County Kennel Club shows.

CH Insight Rumorhasit At Pramada

Assembled for Judge Lydia Hutchinson were the Welsh Springer Spaniel, CH Royailes Hasta B A Cut Above, the Longhaired Dachshund, CH Insight Rumorhasit At Pramada, the Giant Schnauzer, CH Galilee's Pure of Spirit, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Boardwalk’s Bling Bling, the Havanese, CH Askin Steppin’ To The Bad Side, Standard Poodle, CH Penndragon Masaniello, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Caamora All dolled Up Pt. And in what has almost become a mantra, The Giant Schnauzer, Spirit, added yet another BIS to her impressive resume.

CH Penndragon Masaniello

Sunday four of the same dogs would again try for a BIS, the Springer, the Giant, the Bedlington, & the Poodle along with three new dogs, the Whippet, CH Sonsteby’s In A Pickle, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Timsar Mister Moonlighter, and the Rough Collie, CH Marko’s Joint Venture. It turned out to be a black and white decision for Judge William Usherwood as he pointed at the very impressive white Standard Poodle, CH Penndragon Masaniello, while the black Giant looked on. It was the first top prize year for Micah, who finished 2008 with three BIS. Congratulations to breeders/owners Rick & Kim Bates and handler Kim Russell.

We’ll be back with results from St Louis.

THEY'RE STILL IN FLORIDA

We promised you more weekend results this morning and we do have more. First let’s return to our wandering Florida caravan. Honestly, only Ponce De Leon saw more of Florida. Saturday, the crowd was in Pensacola for the self named Pensacola Dog Fanciers Association and in Judge Joe Tacker’s ring. The finalists were the Weimeraner, CH Cmokecity Like a Rollin Stone, the Rhodesian ‘ridgeback, CH Adili’s American idol, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Phillmar Sobe Monster, the Norfolk Terrier, CH Starmtn LukasChesterfield Of Domby, the Pomeranian, CH Velocity’s Shake Ur Bon Bon, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Briard, CH Uniquehengo Des Uns Et Des Autres. Saturday was the day for the big black Poodle, Jetta, as she gets her first Best In Show ever. Congratulations to breeder/owner Linda C Campbell and handler Sarah Riedl.

CH Dawin Spitfire

But Florida is the South where tomorrow is another day, in this case Sunday and day two of the Pendacola DFA. It was Judge Roy W. Keiser Jr’s turn to select BIS from the same Pom, Poodle, Briard and the German Whirehaired Poiner, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Highgate’s Andrew Of The Ridge, the Alaskan Malamure, CH Aspenmyst Prince Of The Island, and the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Chevoit’s Aston Martin. We’ll be back with results from California.
