RALEIGH DAY FOUR

Thomas Bradley had the judge’s book at today’s Raleigh Kennel Club final in that North Carolina city. The seven dogs vying for his attention were the Flat Coated Retriever, GCH CH Windy Hill Dance To The Music JH, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH, McVan's To Russia With Love, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Jade East Mission Into Space, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Woodside’s Megabucks. 

GCH CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble 

 The two that were successful were the PWD, Matisse, and the Beagle, Miss P. Matisse retains his Number One Ranking with his 27th BIS of the year in 36 final attempts. The win gives him 122 career BIS.

NEWFOUNDLAND BIS IN TENNESSEE

The Paducah Kennel Club had so much fun with their day one show in Jackson TN on Thursday, they decided to do it all over again on Friday. Friday’s final was in the hands of judge Robert Schreve who had his pick of the Pointer, GCH CH Oncore Mykyna Run To Daylight, the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under The Influence, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Pouch Cove’s Seabrook Enough Said, the Russell terrier, GCH CH DBF Woodsong of KCR, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Bulldog, GCH CH Imperious Hamitup Southern Bell, and the Bearded Collie, Daybar For Your Eyes Only. Daybar For Your Eyes Only.

GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under The Influence

The big prize went to the biggest among them, the Newfie, Jordan. Reserve went to the Otterhound, DUI. Jordan is having an excellent month with two BIS in two trips to the final ring.

BICHON BEST IN NEW JERSEY

CH Cher Ami's Toast With Remy Martin 

The New Brunswick Kennel Club opened the all-breed action in Edison New Jersey after Thursday’s limited breed shows. Judge Jack Ireland chose his top two from the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner's International S'Cess, the Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca's Trade Secret, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Jp Beauty & Beat, the Bichon Frise, CH Cher Ami's Toast With Remy Martin, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical's My Turn CGC CGN HIC.

 Finishing one/two were the Bichon, Remy, and the IWS, Riley. It was the first BIS in five final appearances this year for Remy and only the second by a Bichon this year. Congratulations to breeders/owners Dr Robert & Deena Mathog, and owner/handler Ryan Wolfe.

The Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo's Picture Perfect, kept up his pursuit of the top ranking in the sport today with another BIS.  Today’s win came at the San Mateo Kennel Club show in Vallejo CA.

Also competing for judge Pat Trotter were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Hil-N-Don & Canyonwood Seemore Of Me, Basset Hound, GCH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor Flirt’s High Flyin’ Gladiator , the RBIS, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Absolutely Talk Of The Town, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Quail Garden Loch Lomond Deja Vu, and the Bulldog, CH  Lil’ Boy’s Tennessee Trash.

It was the 16th BIS in 32 final appearances this year for the OES, Swagger.  We will wait until the end of the weekend to tell you if Swagger is back in the Number One spot.

RALEIGH DAY THREE

GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse

It’s Hump Day in Raleigh NC and the Durham Kennel Club’s turn to host the third of the five shows offered up by the Tarheel Cluster.

The DKC asked judge Sam Houston McDonald to choose his BIS and RBIS from a seven that included the Gordon Setter, CH Raggededge Joyride To Kericreek, the Whippet, GCH CHSporting Fields Shameless, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan's To Russia With Love, the Miniature Pinscher GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Jade East Mission Into Space, and the German Shepherd Dog,CH Woodside’s Megabucks.

He chose the country’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Portie, Matisse for his BIS and the MinPin, Classie, for his RBIS.  Matisse’s 26th BIS of the year, puts him within three shows of tying the all time BIS record for a Working Dog of 124.

SPRINGER BIS IN TENNESSEE

GCH CH Telltale American Ride 

Just 80 miles up the road from us in Jackson TN the Paducah Kennel Club has teamed up with the hometown Jackson Tennessee Dog Fanciers Association for four shows this week. The PKC kicked it off yesterday with their day one show.

Thursday ended with judge Gary Doerge in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CH Raydachs Ride My Ducati SW, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Gamegards I'll Have Another V Braeside, the Scottish Terrier, CH Peabar Goodness Gracious, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the GCH CH Imperious Hamitup Southern Bell, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copperridge What’s Your Dream. 

The day one BIS went to the Springer, Randy. The RBIS went to the Bulldog, Annabelle. Randy has been building momentum this winter and is starting spring with two BIS and nine Sporting Groups.

KEESHOND TAKES VALLEJO OPENER

West Coast Fanciers have three options this week, Anchorage AK, Bremerton WA, & Vallejo CA. The San Mateo Kennel Club got things started today in Vallejo,the city on the northern shore of San Francisco Bay.

The seven dogs that made it to judge Jon Cole's final were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Hil-N-Don & Canyonwood Seemore Of Me, Basset Hound, GCH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, Boxer, GCH CH Encore's Sovereign, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Absolutely Talk Of The Town, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Sharbelle Greg-Mar International Boy, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline's Unit Of Measure, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo's Picture Perfect. 

Taking the day one rosette was the Keeshond, Cubit, followed by the Reserve winner, the OES, Swagger. While Cubit has been to the final ring five times this year and won two RBIS, this is his first BIS of 2014. Congratulations to breeders/owners Kristen Cullen DVM & Susan Cullen, owner/handler Jean Gauchat-Hargis, and owner Joshua Hargis.

While much of the US is glued to their TVs watching non-stop NCAA basketball, dog fanciers are enjoying their own brand of March Madness in Raleigh NC at the five day Tarheel Cluster.

The Alamance Kennel Club had day two and the put Dr Steve Keating in the final ring with the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Ashdown's Time To Thrill, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Jade East Mission Into Space, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Woodside’s Megabucks.

RECORDS AT RISK IN RALEIGH

GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse 

Our show week got underway today with the Cary Kennel Club show in Raleigh NC. With five shows in the offering, the Tarheel Cluster is perfect for two dogs chasing new records. The Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, is within one Best In Show of tying the Toy Dog record of 128 BIS, set by the Pekingese, CH Yakee If Only. The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse, is closing in on the 124 BIS record for Working Dogs, held by the Doberman Pinscher, CH Brunswig’s Cryptonite.

The MinPin, Classie, and the PWD, Matisse, were joined in Dr Robert Indeglia’s final today by the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Ashdown's Time To Thrill, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse, the Welsh Terrier GCH CH Shaireab's Bayleigh Maid Of Honor, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Unique Da Maya Dancing Queen, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Woodsides Megabucks. 

Dr Indeglia would give Matisse his 120th career BIS and his 25th of 2014. Today Classie would go back to the set up with the RBIS award.  Do you realize we may see two group records fall within days of one another?  When was the last time we saw that happen?

AFGHAN BACK2BACK BIS IN SOCAL

The Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, added another BIS to his impressive resume, following his Del Sur Kennel Club BIS on Saturday with the BIS at the club’s Sunday show.

Wally and breeder/owner/handler Jay Hafford were challenged for the win by the Vizsla, GCH CH Tamaron’s Tag You’re It, judge Linda More’s RBIS, the Akita, GCH CH Redwitch Adreneline Junkie, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Dytona VIP, the Papillon, GCH CH Nanrich’s Count On Celine, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline’s Unit Of Measure, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Wigglesworth Thriller. 

 Despite his somewhat leisurely show schedule, Wally’s second BIS of the year will make him a contender for Number One Hound. Check back with us midweek when we have the weekend numbers tallied.

FIRST PODENGO BIS

CH Houla’s Potter 

 History was made at Sunday’s Galveston County Kennel Club show in Houston TX when the Portuguese Podengo Pequeno, CH Houla’s Potter, became the first of his breed to win an AKC Best In Show.

Dr Carol White Moser picked Potter out of a lineup that included the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Ehrenvogel Achy Breaky Heart, the Mastiff, GCH CH Willow Ridge Risky Business, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Kelwyn’s GM Freestyle Flyer, the Affenpinscher, CH Champagne Charly V Tani Kazari, the Boston Terrier, GCH CH Kennedy’s Bumble Bee, and Dr Moser’s RBIS, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh. 

Potter has had our attention since he took the RBIS in Lubbock last October, the only RBIS ever awarded to a Podengo. Congratulations to breeder/owner Carol Houlihan, owner Katherine Sullivan, and handler David Williams.

HEART OF AMERICA KC DAY TWO

We start our Monday Mop Up in Kansas City MO where the Heart of America Kennel Club closed the four day set with judge Elizabeth Sweigart in the final ring. The seven dogs that stayed all day to see her were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Telltale American Ride, the Harrier, CH Pacific Happytails Heartbreaker, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Aviator Success Waterbug Blackjack, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo’s Save Hjour Love For Me, the King Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Heart on Fire, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables The Frat Boy.

Packing up the big rosette was the Poodle, Flame. Taking home the Reserve award was the Toy Spaniel, Prosperity. Flame is the nation’s Number One Non-Sporting Dog with eight BIS and 23 Non-Sporting Groups.

ENGLISH SETTER GETS TWO BIS

The English Setter, GCH CH Weymouth’s En Fuego, made it two in a row, adding today’s Delaware County Kennel Club BIS to Saturday’s BIS. Judge Peter Machen gave the RBIS to the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse.

 Joining them in the final ring were the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Raquel Welch of Malabo APD, the Colored Bull Terrier, GCH CH Banbury Bedrock Bright Star Bright, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Jp Beauty and Beat, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Bellefleet’s Living in the Fast Lane, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Warwick’s Laureate Roman Holiday PT RN CGC. The win brings Blaze’s 2014 record to two BIS and 11 Sporting Groups.

OES BACK TO NUMBER ONE

The Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, pulled off a clean sweep of the four giant Kentuckiana Cluster’s shows, taking home four of the biggest BIS we will see all year. Picking up his second RBIS of the set was the 15” Beagle, CH Tashtins Lookin For Trouble.

 Judge David Bolus remaining five finalists at today's Louisville Kennel Club show were the Irish Setter, CH Militza’s My Cherie Amour, the Mastiff, GCH CH Dream Weaver Queen Anne's Revenge CGC BN RN, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Pomeranian, GCH CH HiTimes What The Inferno, and the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine’s Deck the Halls. 

We believe the four BIS will be good enough to move the OES, Swagger, past the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, into to the Number One Dog All Breeds spot.  However, it will be close.  Matisse spent the week in York PA where he had one BIS, one RBIS, three Group Ones, & a Group Two. However, it will be close.

SKYE BIS IN FLORIDA

GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie 

The Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, was judge Frank Sabella’s BIS at today’s Fort Lauderdale Dog Club. Judge Sabella also liked the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, whom he named his RBIS. 

Also asking for consideration were the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Fieldstone Carousel Hell's Kitchen, the Pharaoh Hound, CH Siphra's Wish You Were Here, the Great Dane, GVH CH Raintree Erinwood Dixie For Heavens Sake, the Xoloitzcuintli, GCH CH Bayshore Stonehaven Espiritu Isabella De Ivoss, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Sunburst One Cool Dude RA.

We will have to wait until all this weekend’s numbers are in to see if Charlie remains the nation’s Number One Terrier with five BIS and 21 Terrier Groups this year.

AFGHAN BIS IN CALIFORNIA

The only dog shows west of the Great Plains this week are in the Los Angeles bedroom community of Valley Center. Saturday’s Del Sur Kennel Club final was called by judge Dr Robert Smith. The seven dogs seeking his approval were the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Thaon’s Wallstreet, the Boxer, GCH CH Hi Jinx This Is How I Roll, the Standard Manchester Terrier, CH Oasis Razzmatazz, the Pug, CH Kirbys Just Say The Word, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skylines Unit of Measure, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Wigglesworth Thriller. 

The two he liked were his BIS, the Afghan, Wally, and his RBIS, the Keeshond, Cubit. It’s the first BIS of the year for Wally and breeder/owner/handler Jay Hafford. Congratulations to Jay, breeder/owner James P Blanchard, and owners Debbie & JW Rogers & Beverly & Jae Moore.

CARDIGAN BIS IN HOUSTON

GCH CH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh 

The hometown Houston Kennel Club opened a two day set on Saturday, ending the day with judge Brian Meyer in the final ring with the Irish Setter, GCH CH Jadestar Rifleman, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Juba Lee Papa Pinotage at Rimrock, the Boxer, CH Cherkei’s Dick Tracey, the West Highland White Terrier, GCH CH Tullybloom’s Classified Credentials, the Maltese, CH Scruffy’s Validian Busy Buzzing Around, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH R-Lee Sparkle Plenty, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh. 

 He would like the Corgi for his Best In Show and the Ridgeback for his Reserve. It was the first BIS of the year for the Westminster Kennel Club’s 2014 Herding Group winner. Congratulations to breeders/owners Julie & Bill Divens & Deb Shindle, owner Dina Planche, and handler Lois DeMers.

HEART OF AMERICA KC DAY ONE

Our third big cluster of the week is in Kansas City MO where the Heart of America Kennel Club took over yesterday, asking judge Peter Green, to choose a BIS and RBIS.

His options were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Saluki, GCH CH Appalachia’s Allamyrra Haiji, the Akita, GCH CH Stardust’s See You At The Show, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo’s Save Hjour Love For Me, the King Charles English Toy Spaniel, GCH CH LTO Prosperity, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey. 

 He chose the Springer, Randy, and the Poodle, Flame. It was the first of the year for the Springer, Randy, and breeder/owner/handler Robin Novack. Congratulations to Robin and co-breeders/owners Celie Florence, Delores Streng, & Beth Fink.

ENGLISH SETTER BIS IN YORK PA

Saturday’s Delaware County Kennel Club show in York PA demonstrated how tough the competition is out there this year, with four of judge Theresa Hundt’s hopefuls making their first appearance final appearance of the week on day four of the stop. The Working Group representative, the St Bernard, GCH CH Aksala’s Peyton, earned his spot by besting the nation’s Number One Dog, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, in the group competition. 

GCH CH Quiet Creeks Double or Nothing for Heather 

Judge Hundt’s remaining six were the English Setter, GCH CH Weymouth’s En Fuego, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creeks Double or Nothing for Heather, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s To Russia with Love, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash JP Beauty & Beat, the Boston Terrier, GCH CH Katbird’s Evolution Matters at Kayas, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical’s My Turn. At the end of the day the two who prevailed were the Setter, Blaze, and the Bloodhound, Roulette.

 It was the first BIS in ten final attempts this season for Blaze. Congratulations to breeders/owners
