We do have some show reports from this weekend that we were not able to get up before boarding our last flight. Here’s the two we left out.

BACK2BACK BIS & MORE

We have some BIS news to catch you up on. First, it’s hard to be humble when you’ve just garnered back to back BIS. From Humble TX we hear that the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible, took both top prizes at the Greater Humble Area Kennel Club two shows this weekend under judges Anne P. Hearn and Mr. Stephen F. Hunt.

CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible

HATS OFF TO MONTGOMERY COUNTY

It wasn’t Ascot Opening Day, but hats and parasols were standard equipment. Scottie judge Frederick R Stephens sported a cowboy hat, while Australian Terrier judge Leonora Riddle chose a cloche festooned with a pheasant feather. Yours truly opted for the more traditional British driver’s cap. Despite the dire predictions of thunderstorms and soggy show grounds, today’s Montgomery County Kennel Club was sunny and pleasant.

CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot
with Handler Gabriel Rangel

Not that everything went as anticipated. The number four Terrier in the US, the Airedale, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke, repeated his Westminster performance, winning the breed, but recusing himself in Peter Green’s Group ring. The number three Terrier, the Lakeland, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, was defeated in the breed, and the Number Two Terrier, the Smooth Fox, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, won the breed, but failed to make the short list in the Group.

CH Tuscaroran Champ Luna

However, the Peter Green’s 2009 MCKC show winner was not a surprise. The number one dog in the US, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, collected the most treasured win in all of Terriers. Terrier breeders covet a Breed win at Montgomery, so a Group Two, Three, or Four is as good as your ordinary all breed BIS. They were Group Two, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Tuscaroran Champ Luna, Group Three, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, and Group Four, the Norwich Terrier, CH Skyscots Poker Chip.

If you’ve never been to a Montgomery County Kennel Club show, be sure to put it on your schedule for next year. And don’t forget to buy a hat.
