LOOK QUICK! THE WEEK HAS BEGUN.
Bison in Yellowstone National Park
Once again while we were still talking about last week, the new dog show week has begun. We are midway through the Great Wilderness Trek that began in Filer ID last Tuesday. After six days in Idaho, our dog show gypsies crossed into Montana for today’s Yellowstone Valley Kennel Club’s first of three shows in Billings. That will be followed two shows in Great Falls courtesy of the Electric City Kennel Club and three shows in Misssoula hosted by the Five Valley Kennel Club. That’s 14 shows in 15 days, enough for the most obsessed exhibitor. And, yes, not even tornadoes over the weekend have kept our determined dog fanciers from their quest. All shows are still a go.
If you lack the stamina for such an undertaking (let’s face it. Most of us do), there are still plenty of opportunities this week for a long weekend at the shows. You can try the quartet of shows in suburban New York. There will be three in New Paltz from the Wallkill Kennel Club, the Shawangunk Kennel Club, & the Mid-Hudson Kennel Association, followed by the Staten Island Kennel Club‘s Sunday show in that borough. In western Pennsylvania, the South Hills Kennel Club & Mountaineer Kennel Club will team for four in Waynesburd PA. The Valparaiso Kennel Club, Michiana Kennel Club, & Berrien Kennel Club will also give your four in Valaraiso IN. Cambridge MN will be the site for the Anoka County Minnesota Kennel Club & Cambridge Minnesota Kennel Club’s four shows. An hour outside the Big Easy is Gonzales LA the site for the Riverside West Kennel Club Of Greater New Orleans & Northlake Kennel Club Of Greater Covington’s four show weekend.
How about a week in Orlando FL split between Disney World and the Brevard Kennel Club, the Central Florida Kennel Club, & the Space Coast Kennel Club Of Palm Bay’s three shows? Traditional Saturday/Sunday fare can be found in Cumberland ME with the Penobscot Valley Kennel Club, in Richmond VA with the Virginia Kennel Club, in Armada MI with the Macomb Kennel Club, in Iowa City IA with the Hawkeye Kennel Club, in Canby Or with the Clackamas Kennel Club, or, for a real adventure, in Anchorage AK with the Alaska Kennel Club.

Finally, the place to be this week for Terrier fans is Long Beach CA for the Great Western Terrier Association Of Southern California’s two shows. Preceded by several Terrier Breed specialties, this weekend’s shows will have over 650 dogs in the regular classes. That’s larger than many all breed shows these days. Think about this. A Group Four at one of these shows might bring more points than a BIS at some of the all breed shows on the schedule. So where would you go this weekend if you had a top Terrier? Wherever you go, you will meet friendly people and see terrific examples of our AKC pure bred dogs.

TROLL FREE ZONE
According to Wikipedia, not always the most reliable source, but in this case exceedingly accurate, “In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog”
Because I want to deliver a personal message to you all I am, for this post, abandoning my usual journalistic use of the first person plural. Those of you who know my background, know I got my journalist credentials long before the internet came into being. I have, somewhat naively, allowed all readers to participate in comments on the blog. Until a few weeks ago I had never rejected any comments coming on the blog. Unfortunately, the trolls have recently arrived here at Dog Show Poop and must be eradicated. I don’t tolerate fleas on my dog and I won’t tolerate trolls on my blog. Because of the limits imposed by my host, Google, I cannot wholesale reject all anonymous comments.
I have earned a reputation for being unbiased and unwilling to participate in dog show politics, a reputation which I wish to maintain. However in recent weeks I have been accused of publishing “fluff” and being in the pockets of the dog world’s power brokers. Conversely, I have been chastised for providing a forum for rabble rousing character assassins interested only in bringing down the canine establishment. Partly because I allow some limited advertising on my blog, partly because I have attracted a sizable readership, many people assume I am earning an income from the blog. I once heard someone say to an experienced exhibitor, “I hear there’s a lot of money in the dog show game” to which the old timer replied, “Absolutely! I should know. I have put a lot of my money into it.” I accept no advertising from breeders, owners, or handlers and none of the photos appearing on this blog are paid advertising.
All of which leads me to this point. This is a personal blog, created and executed to promote the sport of pure bred dogs and to entertain my readers. I am very happy that so many people have found the blog enjoyable. I am the sole author of the content and the only person who has a say on editorial content. From that position, I am declaring this blog a TROLL FREE ZONE. I will post a permanent notice on my front page stating such. Because nearly 90 percent of the comments I receive are anonymous, I have decided to continue to allow anonymous comments with the following Provisos.

PHARAOH HOUND IN SAN ANTONIO
CH Northgate As You Like It
We had not anticipated that events in San Antonio would draw such interest, but they have. They wrapped it up today with James Reynolds calling the BIS for the Bexar Kennel Club. His options were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Wil-Orion Twenty Twenty, the P{haraoh Hound, CH Northgate As You Like It, CH Cammcastle's Friar Tuck, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug, the Bulldog, CH Red Dog's Rambo, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Copperridges's Fire N Bayouland. Best went to the Swedish import, the Pharaoh Hound, Qing. It’s the second for the 201o Crufts Hound Group Winner and handler Brian Livingston. Will this be the start of something big?
CANAAN DOG BIS!
We love it when one of our rare breeds gets a BIS. The Canaan Dog is 156th in the AKC registry and one of the best Cannan Dogs anywhere, CH Pleasant Hill Magnum Of Samara, was Paula Nykiel’s Best In Show today at the Echo Hills Kennel Club Of Ohio in Troy OH. Rounding out her final were the Weimaraner, CH Smokycity Nanis Dbl Silhouette, the Greyhound, CH Gaia Elfin Dance, the Samoyed, CH Stolicnaya, the Norwich Terrier, CH Saram Ma-Ya‘s My Sweet Valentine, the Pomeranian, CH Mountain Crest U Don’t Own Me, and the Standard Poodle, CH Jaset’s Satisfaction. We do think this was the first Herding Group One and all breed BIS this year for Mag, the 2010 Westminster Breed Winner and 2009 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Breed Winner. Congratulations to breeder Donna Dodson, owner Pamela Stacey Rosman and handler Bruce Schultz.
ANOTHER BACK2BACK BIS
CH Burmack‘s Rosie V Evrmor
We hear that the Irish Setter, CH Militza’s SomethingRoyal, has become the third dog this weekend to post back2back BIS. It happened today in Waynesville NC at the day two show of the Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association. Frank McCartha’s other finalists were the Plott, Alexanders Mob Boss Capone, the Siberian Husky, CH Indigo’s Hilltop Istate, the Miniature Bull Terrier, CH Evolution‘s Eddie Izzard, the Toy Manchester Terrier, CH Burmack‘s Rosie V Evrmor, the Bichon Frise, CH Riane’s GloryB Stepping Out In Style, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Imp-Cen Rowland's Tough Love. We have to wonder if this ten year old is going to make a habit of this.
SATURDAY IN CHULA VISTA CA
