WHAT'S UP, WISCONSIN

CH Wund-Ry's Best Kept Secret

For you Cheese Heads (that’s football for Wisconsin fans) we have this. Friday it was James Reynold at the Badger Kennel Club handing the Keeshond, CH Wund-Ry's Best Kept Secret, his first BIS. Congratulations to breeder/owner Terri Van Schyndel.

CH Rokeena Carte Blanche

Saturday it was the Janesville-Beloit Kennel Club and judge Houston Clark. His BIS winner was the more widely known Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, the country’s number one Hound and a top five dog all breeds. That’s lucky number 13 this year and 25 lifetime, a new record for a male PBGV. Bravo Team CeeJay, breeder/owner Robin Wallis of Gisborne, Australia, co-owners Russell Wallis (Robin‘s husband), and Jose, Yvonee, & Christina Herrera, and handler Jane Alston-Myers.

TONY TAKES IT IN GEORGIA

CH Woodside Pacino

This dog has been winning two, three, or more groups every weekend for the past six weekends. So we are not surprised that he has picked up another Best In Show. Number five came today for the German Shepherd Dog, CH Woodside Pacino, on day one of the Oconee Kennel Club two shows in Watkinsville GA. We had picked Tony as one of our original DOGS2WATCH. We suspect he will be back in the top twenty before long.

SO SMOOTH IN MISSOURI

We have this from a reader on scene at the Purina Farms complex in Gray Summit MO. Janice Earl had the BIS call at the Spirit of the Heartland Kennel Club show today.

CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice

Her finalists were the Golden Retriever, Friday’s BIS winner, the Golden Retriever, CH Easthill Broxden Pop Star, a yet as unnamed Dachshund, the Boxer, CH CH Bravo N Sunset Stealing Time, the Smooth Fox Gterrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, the Pug, CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu, the Standard Poodle, CH Donnchada Sweet Dreams, and the Shetland Sheepdog, CH Kylene Eden The Dragonslayer.

It was the artful Dodger, the terrific young Smooth Fox, picking up another BIS to let everyone know that he intends to stay in the top twenty.

MAKING HISTORY IN UTAH

CH Arkeno’s Ear’s To You

We love firsts and we are the first to report this first. The Papillion, CH Arkeno’s Ear’s To You, has become the first Phalene (drop ear) Papillion to go win an AKC all breed Best In Show. It happened in South Jordan Utah at the day yesterday two show of the Intermountain Kennel Club . Mrs’ Cec Ringstrom was the history making judge. Congratulations to breeders/owners Kim McKay & Murray Berg, co-breeder James Barnes, co- owners Salwa Alfadl & Mary Jo Loye, and making Daddy proud, handler Jenny Wornall.

It was the first BIS of the year for the country’s number three Golden, known to his friends as Nick. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Amy Rodrigues-Booth, co-breeder/owner Sandra Kim Hoffen, and co-owners Charma and Megan Hill.

PLEASE PATRONIZE THE PUPPIES

Last week dog fanciers had a plethora of potential pleasures. This week there is a paucity of proposed possibilities, but we promise plenty of pooches to peruse.

The weekend begins tomorrow with the Utah Beehive Cluster in the Salt Lake City suburb of South Jordan. The Intermountain and Utah Valley Kennel Clubs will partner on four shows. The St. Louis Dog Breeders Association, the Spirit Of The Heartland Kennel Club , and the Jefferson County Kennel Club Of Missouri will post a trio of shows starting Friday in Gray Summit MO. Ditto for the Badger Kennel Club & Janesville-Beloit Kennel Club in Jefferson WI.

A couple of hours north of Philadelphia, the Bucks County Kennel Club will host a show in Saturday and the Trenton Kennel Club will follow with a show Sunday in West Windsor NJ, some 45 miles away. Also in Region One, the York County Kennel Club will post a twofer in Acton ME.

Four more sites have two day offerings: Watkinsville GA (Oconee River KC), Bucyrus OH (Crawford County KC), Big Spring KC (Big Spring TX), Olympia DFA (Elma WA), and Rio Hondo KC (Pomona CA)

Like we said, fewer shows means a greater likelihood you will see one of the dogs you have been reading about here. Got and get hooked on the AKC dog show world.

EXHIBITORS BRAVE TORNADOES

We do not know if this past weekend’s shows in Oklahoma were impacted by the terrible weather, but there were six tornadoes in that state. Whatever the reason for the delay, we now can share those results with you.

CH Nighthawk’s Born For Highwood

The Tri-State Kennel Club and BIS judge Glenda Dawkins had the duty on Saturday. The finalists were the Labrador Retriever, CH Sher-Mi Front Ruynner JH, the Bloodhound, CH Heather’s A Little Night Music, the Rottweiler, CH Nighthawk’s Born For Highwood, the Norwich Terrier, CH Skyscot’s Poker Chip, the Italian Greyhound, CH Bo Bet’s Blue Nun, the Dalmatian, CH Hispots Mintazh Master Authority, and the Australian Shepherd, Briarbrook’s Copyright.

BIS went to the three year old Rott, Ozz, the first this year for the 2009 Westminster breed winner. Congrats to breeder/owner Alexandra Vorbeck and co-owner Daviann Mitchell.

CH Skyscot’s Poker Chip

Sunday, it was the Bartlesville KC and Arlene Davis with the judge’s hat. She had the same Lab, Rott, Norwich, and the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Tji-Wara’s Distan Drums, the Havanese, CH Gingerbred Youkon Jack Desiderio, the Lhasa Apso, CH Rushmar’s Charmer, and the Bouvier Des Flandres, CH Delux Think Tank At Runamok.

Her BIS was another 2009 Westminster breed winner. In fact the Norwich, “Pokey”, took home a Group Three from Westminster. It was BIS number three for the Norwich. This little dog seems to be in contention wherever he goes. We just wish he would get to a few more major events.

NORDIC BREED RALLY

We have a report from the Heartland, the Heart Of Iowa Kennel Club that is. The club threw a two day party this past weekend and now has recovered enough to file this report.

CH Exl’s Leather N Lace

Denis Kniola was the judge in Marshalltown on Saturday and he chose from the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Exl’s Leather N Lace, the American Foxhound, CH Kiarry’s Foolish Pride, the Newfoundland, CH Brookside’s, Legends Live On, the Norfolk Terrier, CH Maxwell’s Viper, the Havanese, CH Mojito’s Desilu De Salana, the Dalmatian, CH Paisley Nspired By Briadway, the Bouvier Des Flandres, CH Lemrick’s Shakespeare.

His BIS was the sleek Cocker. The five year old bitch had five BIS in 2008 and now has four this year so far. Congratulations to breeders/owners Sandy Knaus & Jan Huml and handler Jeff L Wright.

CH Polar Mist X-Tasy

Sunday the Cocker, the Norfolk, and the Dalmation, and the judge’s book were all passed to Steve Hayden. His remaining finalists were the Basset Hound, CH Topsfield-Sanchu American Express, the Samoyed, CH Polar Mist X-Tasy, the Long Coat Chihuahua, CH Ouichitah Forever, the Rough Collie, CH Highcroft Bourne Ultimatum TD.

The Sammie, Tasy, picked up her second BIS of the year. Brava to breeder Lynette Blue, owners Barbara Bruns & Wolfgang Stamp, and handler Nancy Martin. OK, we can no longer say that the Nordic breeds are not getting their fair share of BIS. Since we made that statement two weeks ago we have witnessed eight all breed BIS by Nordic breeds. Way to go!

YES, VIRGINIA, THERE IS A DELAWARE

Thanks to Vice President Joe Biden, most of Ameica now knows that the state of Delaware is close enough to Washington DC that one can commute to the Senate. For most of us, it is easy to overlook Delaware. So we are not surprised that AKC just an hour ago posted this past weekend’s results from Bear DE.

CH Velvety Angel Eyes

We had I-Reports from an exhibitor on Friday and Saturday. You may remember that the Doberman, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, and the Smooth Fox, CH Foxlorr Double Dare, took the top prizes on Friday and Saturday respectively at the Wilminton Kennel Club’s two shows. Friday’s other finalists were the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbars Hart To Hart, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Velvety Angel Eyes, the Italian Greyhound, CH Honore's Lilly-Belle, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Stone Ridge Whol Stop T Rain.

CH Honore's Lilly-Belle

Saturday, the Lab, Wolhound, and Dobie all were back to greet the Chinese Crested, CH Camelot’s All Hallows Eve, the Dalmatian, CH Perdita’s Absolute Adorable, and the Briard, CH Sendoro’s Absolutely Irresistible.

Sunday, the Penn Treaty Kennel Club and judge Donovan Thompson took over. Judge Thompson saw the same Smooth Fox, IG, Bulldog, and GSD as his predescessors in addition to the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon , CH Ch Fireside’s Spontaneous Combustion, the Scottish Deerhound, CH Thistleglen Nola, and the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream.

CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream

Sunday’s BIS went to the Boxer, Scarlett, the country’s number ten dog. We suspect that this weekend’s results will improve that ranking.

TWO MORE FOR SADIE

We gave you a glimpse earlier at the results of the Lake Matthews Kennel Club shows in Chino CA where the nation’s number one dog, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes At Maryscot powered her way to another BIS Saturday.

CH Splash’s The Professor

Judge Monica Canestrini also had the Flat-Coated Retriever, Featherquest Dangerous Drifter, the Basset Hound, CH Splash’s The Professor, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Cambria’s The Captain, the Pomeranian, CH Velocity’s Shake Ur Bon Bon, the Dalmatian, CH Xanadu’s Angel, and the Bouvier Des Flandres, CH Avalon Frontier Sleepn Lady Webber.

To illustrate how tough the competition was at this shows. Two of 2008’s top ten dogs did not make it into the final seven, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Coventry Vanity Fair, both of whom have won BIS this year.

CH Velocity Shake Ur Bon Bon

Sunday, the Scottie, Sadie, the Dobie, the Pom, Bon, and the Corgi, Carly, all make it to the final seven to see Frank Sabella. They were met by the English Setter, CH Artizoe High Caliber, the Afghan Hound, CH Thaon’s Mowgli, and the Tibetan Terrier, CH Players Protocol.

To no one’s surprise Sadie picked up another top prize. She now has a more than 16,000 point lead on the rest of the field. Can anyone catch her?

MALAMUTE DOUBLES DOWN

As we hop around the country sweeping up results, we head to mid America and Eaton OH for the results of the Fort St Claire Kennel Club’s doubleheader.

CH Nanuke's Still The One

Saturday, Welsh Springer Spaniel, CH Statesman's Winners Circle, the American Foxhound, CH Devlon's It Now Or Never, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Nanuke's Still The One, the Lakeland Terrier, Talydales Friend Of The Force, the Smooth Chihuahua, CH Ayrwen Star Kissed Delight, the Boston Terrier, CH Katbird's Brilliant Constellation, and the Bearded Collie, CH Kinikia You Can't Fool Me RN.

We have had a flurry of BIS by Nordic breeds since we bemoaned the lack thereof this year. This is number two for the country’s number one Malamute.

CH Nanuke's Still The One aka Kimmy

Sunday, the club fielded Ronald Hillard as BIS judge and he summoned the the same Malamute and Foxhound to his ring along with the Golden Retriever, Snowshoe And Dreamworks Last Laugh, the Cairn Terrier, CH Kyleakin Dees Darling, the Havanese, CH Qbin's Happy Feet At Enginuity, the American Eskimo Dog, CH Timber's Next Step Up, and the Briard, CH Deja Vu Mia Chain Of Fools.

It was back to back BIS for Kimmy, the Malamute. Congratulations to breeder/owner Sandra D'Andrea, co-breeder Perry Hazelwood, and co-owners Dr Stephen & Susan Rich & Grant George.

Yes, there is still more,

LIN-LEE IN LINCOLN

Places we haven’t visited today include New England, the hamlet of Lincoln RI (How does one of the original 13 colonies get named after the 16th President) and the South County Kennel Club.

CH Linn-Lee's For The Good Times

Saturday, Carol Kniebusch Noe rounded up the unusual suspects, a group with names mostly new to us, the Irish Setter, CH Shadagee Caught Red-Handed, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, the CH Lafleurs Flashy Prospect, the Saint Bernard, CH Mickey III, the Welsh Terrier, CH Marydale's Limited Edition, the Pekingese, CH Linn-Lee's For The Good Times, the Schipperke, CH De Lamer Point Break, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Deja Blu Deal Me In.

Once again the Peke, would go BIS. Congratualtions to David and breeder/owners Erna Holcombe & Charlotte Carter.

And the Sealyham, would grab the win. If the two year old girl looks familiar, you might remember her sire, CH Efbe’s Hidalgo At Goodspice. We haven’t seen this girl since she went BOS to Charmin at Westminster. Congratulations to breeder/owner June Cohron DVM and co-owner Linda Hildebrand. Do we think that this a DOG2WATCH? Oh, yeah. We still have more.

MONDAY CATCH UP #3

The more catching up we do, the more we realize what a great weekend it was out there. We hope you guys got to take part in this. We gave you a look at Saturday’s participants at the fun in Birch Run MI at the Progressive Dog Club of Wayne County show.

CH Burmack's Rosie V Evrmor

In an extraordinary final, if not a very imaginative one, Sunday’s seven finalists were exactly the same as Saturday’s seven. We appreciate consistency as much as the next guy, but can’t say we’ve ever seen that happen.

Out in the Heartland, the Seward County Kennel Club staged a pair of shows in their hometown. As reported here Saturday’s BIS winner was the Golden Retriever, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island. MALTESE IN NEBRASKA

CH Rhapsody's Too Many Remarks

Maltese were not our first show dogs, but they were our first champions. And though we moved onto Terriers many moons ago, we still have a soft spot for these elegant little dogs. So we are happy to tell you that the Maltese, CH Rhapsody's Too Many Remarks, picked up her very first all breed Best In Show today at the Seward County (NE) Kennel Club’s day two show. It was judge Murrel Purkhiser who gave “Gabby” the BIS. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Tonia Halibaugh and co-owner Barbara Davis.

TWO TOP TIBETAN MASTIFFS, TERRIFC!

We were told to keep an eye on this dog and we are thrilled to announce that this country now has two Tibetan Mastiffs who have won an AKC all breed BIS. Today’s win came at the Walla Wall Kennel Club’s second show of the weekend. The dog is CH Seng Khri Bartok Of Dawa, grand nephew of the first TM to win a BIS, CH Drakyi Gold Standard.

CH Seng Khri Bartok Of Dawa

HERDING HEROINE

CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible

That Herding Group we were talking about has struck again. We haven’t seen a BIS from this girl in the last few weeks, but she’s back to remind you that girls just want to have fun..and win BIS. Today’s came at the Beaumont KC in that Texas city with judge Marcy Spalding making the choice. Congratualtions to the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresistible, and team Sax.

BOO DOMINATES DECATUR

CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu

Momentum. It counts in physics and it counts in dog shows. The Pug, CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu, has posted his third BIS of the weekend in Decatur IL at the Mattoon Kennel Club show courtesy of judge William Usherwood. If the Herding Group is competitive this year, the Toy Group is red hot.

ANOTHER REPEAT WINNER

We have another repeat winner to report. This one is from day two of the Treasure Coast Kennel Club show in Vero Beach FL where judge Robert Slay has given the German Shepherd Dog, CH Shoal Creek’s Sangria V Barick her second Bet In Show in as many days.

CH Shoal Creek’s Sangria V Barick

Other repeat visitors to the final seven were the Labrador Retriever, CH Robnie’s Chantilly At Lighthouse, the Pug, CH Norkus’ Risky Business. They were joined by the Baenji, CH Meisterhaus You Better Believe It JC, the Newfoundland, CH Egebaek After Eight, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, CH Prada Classic Aranisle At Donnellas, and the Standard Poodle, Artistic’s Dressed By Design.

Rhea’s win reminds us how competitive the Herding Group is this year.

TECHNICALLY SUPERIOR

CH Catanya’s Latin Lover

We may be residents of the blogosphere, but we are definitely technologically challenged. We don’t Twitter, we don’t text, and we don’t own an I-Phone. However, we certainly appreciate those who do. From a technically gifted exhibitor we hear that the Alaskan Malamute, CH Catanya’s Latin Lover, has copped the BIS a today’s Gavilan Kennel Club in Holllister CA under judge Diane Malenfant. It was the first all breed BIS for the three year old Ricky. Congratulations to breeder/owner P J Kendrick, co-owners Armando Martinez & Alisa Syar, and handler Mike Stone.

TWOFER FOR CEEJAY

CH Rokenna Carte Blanche
With Handler Jane Myers

Today’s first report is in. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Rokeena Carte Blanche, has shown his staying power and won the second iteration of the Myrtle Beach Kennel Club show. Today’s win was awarded by Mrs. Robert D. Smith in Lake Waccamaw NC. CeeJay and handler Jane Myers now have a secure hold on a top five berth and the number one Hound position.

SADIE WINS IN CHINO

CH Roundtown Mercedes At Maryscot
With Handler Gabriel Rangel

More California results, this time from Chino and the Lake Matthews Kennel Club where judge Monica Canestrini chose the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes At Maryscot. Sadie and handler Gabriel Rangel have an enormous lead over the rest of the field this year. With one third of the year behind us, it remains to be seen if any other dog can make up the distance.

GSP IN HOLLISTER

We awoke to California show results, from Hollister and the Gavilan Kennel Club.

Club.CH Robin Crest Charismatic JH

Seven, mostly local dogs, showed up in judge Lee Brown’s BIS ring. BIS went to the Northern California bitch, from our former home of Martinez, breeder/owner handled by Robin Remondi. Brava!
