We do not know if this past weekend’s shows in Oklahoma were impacted by the terrible weather, but there were six tornadoes in that state. Whatever the reason for the delay, we now can share those results with you.
CH Nighthawk’s Born For Highwood
The Tri-State Kennel Club and BIS judge Glenda Dawkins had the duty on Saturday. The finalists were the Labrador Retriever, CH Sher-Mi Front Ruynner JH, the Bloodhound, CH Heather’s A Little Night Music, the Rottweiler, CH Nighthawk’s Born For Highwood, the Norwich Terrier, CH Skyscot’s Poker Chip, the Italian Greyhound, CH Bo Bet’s Blue Nun, the Dalmatian, CH Hispots Mintazh Master Authority, and the Australian Shepherd, Briarbrook’s Copyright.
BIS went to the three year old Rott, Ozz, the first this year for the 2009 Westminster breed winner. Congrats to breeder/owner Alexandra Vorbeck and co-owner Daviann Mitchell.

Sunday, it was the Bartlesville KC and Arlene Davis with the judge’s hat. She had the same Lab, Rott, Norwich, and the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Tji-Wara’s Distan Drums, the Havanese, CH Gingerbred Youkon Jack Desiderio, the Lhasa Apso, CH Rushmar’s Charmer, and the Bouvier Des Flandres, CH Delux Think Tank At Runamok.
Her BIS was another 2009 Westminster breed winner. In fact the Norwich, “Pokey”, took home a Group Three from Westminster. It was BIS number three for the Norwich. This little dog seems to be in contention wherever he goes. We just wish he would get to a few more major events.

Interesting to see this dog awarded so many bests. While he is a lovely specimen and very showy he deviates from the standard in that the Norwich Terrier standard states "Distance from the top of the withers to the ground and from the withers to base of tail are approximately equal."
ReplyDeleteHis length of back is more Norfolk like. The Norfolk standard states "Length of back from point of withers to base of tail should be slightly longer than the height at the withers."
In any event, there are quite a few quality Norwich Terriers being exhibited today that have beat this lovely dog more then once and they deserved to do so.

I completely disagree with "anonymous" above. When you see this dog in person and put your hands on him you find that he is a near perfect "standard" Norwich. Will be happy to provide a measuring tape for you. Of course there are quite a few quality Norwich exhibited today....some of whom have beaten him (although NOT many since he has fully matured in the past several months) but "dissing" this dog doesn't make those dogs any better than they are. You certainly have the right to your assessment but I have to say that those who disagree with your assessment comprise a significantly larger contingent than those who agree with you....this holds to be particularly true for most of the judges before whom this lovely dog has come.
