ROCKING IT IN ROCK ISLAND

We have on more tidbit for you before we shut it down for the night.  We hear that the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout, was Linda Robey’s choice for BIS today at the Scot County Kennel Club show in Rock Island IL.  Scout and handler Frank Murphy have been rocking it lately and now have five all breed Bests to go with all those Sporting Group Ones (somewhere around 30, we can’t keep up).

The Ravena Kennel Club opened their two day set in Tallmadge OH with Robert Slay in the final ring.  His options were the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Lehi's Crystal Ball At BlueRiver, the 15" Beagle, CH Torquay Midnight Confession, the Siberian Husky, CH Kontoki's A Bend In The Road, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Talydales Friend Of The Force, the Papillon, CH Domino's Pandemonium, the Boston Terrier, CH Annalee Told Ya So and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Bugaboo's Big Shot.  His Best was the Beagle, Lola.  That’s number four this year for Lola and breeder/owner/handler Marcelo Chagas.

Vicki Abbot was in in Midland MI to judge BIS for the hometown club.  She had her pick of the Spinoni Italiani, CH Klondike’s Frederico Ilario, the Basset Hound, CH Topsfield-Sanchu American Express, the Great Pyrenees, CH Saddle Ridge Power Of Won, the Norfolk Terrier, CH Max-Well’s Violet, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, CH Ayrwen Star Kissed Delight, the Tibetan Terrier, CH Ri Lee’s Stellar Performance, and the Bearded Coillier, CH Wildwood Kinikia Nobody's Fool.  Her Best was the Norfolk, Violet.  It’s her first all breed BIS this year.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Susan A Kipp & Barbara Miller.

We have another report from the west coast, this time from Woodland CA where the fans were gathered for the Camellia Capital Kennel Club.  Christina Hubbell’s super seven were the English Setter, CH Set'R Ridge's Exclusively Gold, the Bloodhound, CH Quiet Creek's Kiss and Tell, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Catanyas Latin Lover, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Slyfox Sneaks A Peek, the Havsanese, CH Oeste's Havnfun Playin An Outlaw, the French Bulldog, CH Highwood’s Big Shot, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Wylecote Woolgatherer.  She took a long look at the Smooth Fox, Adam, and gave him his ninth BIS of the year.  That leaves Adam and handler Eddie Boyes, just a few hundred points from a top ten berth.

The Rio Grande Kennel Club opened their three day weekend in Albuquerque NM today with Lawrence Stanbridge in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, CH Oteins Cap'n Jack Sparrow, the Whippet, CH Sporting Fields Bahama Sands, the Welsh Terrier,     CH Bayleigh Shaireab's Super Hero, the Maltese, CH Rhapsody's Regarding Henry, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Enchanted's American Thunder.  The race belongs to the swift and they don’t get much swifter than the Whippet, Tawny.   We have this as her fourth all breed BIS this year.

Lady Luck has been smiling on the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Aviator’s Luck Be A Lady as she picked up her second BIS of the weekend today at the Klamath Dog Fanciers’ show in Klamath Falls OR.  She was accompanied in Bob Stein's ring by the Brittany, CH RJ’s Sierra Edition SH, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Soletrader Donald Duck, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Char Dar's Merry Manhattan, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Top Banana, yesterday’s BIS, the Bulldog, CH Stellar‘s Usual Suspect, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Avalon Frontier Sleepnlady Webber.   For those keeping count (and it’s what we do) that’s three all breed BIS in the last seven days, good enough to crack the Top Twenty Five Dogs All Breeds.

The Chester Valley Kennel Club asked Robert Hutton to judge their BIS today in Ludwigs Corner PA.  He had his choice of yesterday’s Best, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, CH Fireside’s Spontaneous Combustion, the Greyhound, CH Grandcru Clos Erasmus, the Rottweiler, CH Falkore Taking Care of Bizness STNHDG, the Miniature Schnauzer, CH Earthsong Remedy For The Blues, the Affenpinscher,  CH Velvet Dipsy Dandy, the Low Chen, CH Chic Choix Buhar Cuba, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.  His Best In Show was the Beardie, Roy, his career 26th and eleventh this year.  This one puts Roy and handler Cliff Steele back in the Number One Herding Dog Spot and once again threatening to move into a Top Ten All Breed spot.

Sam Houston Macdonald was getting his Irish on today in Northing Stonington CT, awarding BIS to the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, at today’s St Hubert Kennel Club show.  Putting in their own bid for BIS were the Weimaraner, CH Camelot’s Knocking On Heaven’s Door, the Basset Hound, CH Topsfield -Sanchu Pop Art O’Bridi, the Newfoundland, CH Bowater’s Even Now, the Pug, CH Mjoray’s Allstar, the Tibetan Terrier, CH Salishan How Do You Like Me Now, and  yesterday’s BIS winner, the Briard, CH Ne Orageux’s Al Capone.  Fynn and handler RC Carusi now have three all breed BIS this year.

Roland Pelland opened the weekend in Ludwigs Corner PA for the Chester Valley Kennel Club yesterday.  His seven finalists were the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, CH Fireside's Spontaneous Combustion, the Irish Wolfhound, CH R Noble McEwane of Eagle, the Great Dane, CH Lobato's JitterBug Man, the Cairn Terrier, CH Dogwood Love Affair, the Italian Greyhound, CH Honore’s Lily-Belle, the Miniature Poodle, CH Splash Di Caprio, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.  Best went to the WPG, Buster. Buster & handler Michael Scott , standing in for wife Michelle, picked up Buster’s fourth BIS this year.

BULLY BIS IN OREGON

Once again our friends in the Pacific Northwest have their show in the record books ahead of their east coast brethern in Pennsylvania & Georgia.  At the day two show of the Southern Oregon Kennel Club in Klamath Falls OR, Donnelle Richards had the BIS call.  Her seven were the Weimaraner, CH Rosewin Clasic Schwin Of Anson, the Saluki, CH Rosewin Clasic Schwin Of Anson, the Rottweiler, CH Parisans Helo Of Riverridge, the Kerry Blue Terrier, CH Trozian Onyx At Torum, the Toy Fox Terrier, CH Barbary's Fame 'N Fortune, the Bulldog, CH Stellar's Usual Suspect, and the Shetland Sheepdog, CH Braeleen Foreign Intrigue.  Her Best was the Bulldog, Kaiser, his first this year.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Katie Westergard, co-breeders Linda Borden & Chris Borden, and handler Jay Serion.

BRIARD BEST IN CT

Our first results of the night are in.   Donavon Thompson was in North Stomnington CT today to judge Best In Show for the St Hubert Kennel Club.  He had his choice of the Golden Retriever, CH Tempo’s You Got What Gets Me, the Basenji, DC C-Quest’s Jokuba Hide And Seek SC, the Bullmastiff, CH Nix Stax Quarterback, the Cairn Terrier, CH Maverston Double Dutch, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Mondrian VH Lamslage RE, the Tibetan Terrier, CH Atisha’s VSOP Couvoisier, and the Briard, CH Ne Orageux’s  Al Capone.   His Best was the Briard, Capone.  It’s Capone first all breed BIS this year, possibly his first ever.  Capone was bred by C Moore & William & Rebecca Weber.  He is owned by the Webers & Merry Jeanne Millner & Tommy Millner and handled by Joan Scott.  Congratulations to them all.  We would love to have a photo of this guy.

CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice

Dr Steve Keating was in charge of the final at yesterday’s Columbus Kennel Club show in Perry GA.  While we don’t have all the results, we can tell you that his Best In Show was the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice.  The win puts Dodger and handler Amy Booth back in as AKC’s Number One Dog All Breeds.  We have that as 23 BIS this year for Dodger.

The Southern Oregon KC opened the four day stop in Klamath Falls OR with Annella Cooper calling the BIS.  Her choices were the Sussex Spaniel, CH Seamist On A Windward Tack RN, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Soletrader Donald Duck, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Aviators Luck Be A Lady, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Char Dar's Merry Manhattan, the Long Coat Chihuahua, CH Dragon Lair Wildrose Mojo Risin, the French Bulldog, CH Highwood's Big Shot, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi,  CH Windsorcastle's Foxlor Tymelss.  Best went to the nation’s number one PWD, Ladybug.  Ladybug and handler Amy Rutherford now have four all breed BIS this year, two this week!

CHEER FOR YOUR FAVORITE

We have 27 all breed shows in ten locations this week.  The funs starts tomorrow in Perry GA where the Columbus Kennel Club will kick off a four day stay, followed by the Southeast Alabama Kennel Club on Friday and the Macon Kennel Club on Saturday & Sunday.  We will also begin a four day stop Thbursday with the Southern Oregon Kennel Club & Klamath Dog Fanciers in Klamath Falls OR. 

If you are looking for a three day weekend, you may have to move the RV during the weekend.  In New England, you can spend Friday and Saturday with the St. Hubert Kennel Club in North Stonington CT and then move on to Woodstock CA where the Windham County Kennel Club will take over on Sunday.  Likewise in Pennsylvania, you can spend Friday & Saturday with the Chester Valley Kennel Club in Ludwigs Corner and pack up & drive 60 miles to the west to attend the Lancaster Kennel Club Show in Lebanon.  Rio Grande Kennel Club & Coronado Kennel Club Of New Mexico will spare exhibitors the moving around doing three shows Saturday through Monday in Albuquerque NM.

Our Saturday/Sunday offerings are in Tallmadge OH with the Ravenna KC, in Midland MI with the hometown KC, in Rock Island IL with the Scott County KC, Denton TX with the Denton KC (check out the North Texas Non-Sporting Association  on Friday), and in Woodland CA with the Camellia Capital Kennel Club.  Wherever you are, check out an AKC dog show.  We have incredibly close races this year.  Our top twenty five will all have to win if they are to hold onto their current rankings.  Be there to cheer your favorite!

The Jefferson County Kennel Club Of Missouri, the St Louis Dog Breeders Association, & the Spirit Of The Heartland Kennel Club teamed for three days of shows at the Purina Farm complex in Gray Summit MO.  Friday Richard Lashbrook gathered the Gordon Setter, CH Firethorn & Sandpiper Easy On The Eyes, the Bloodhound, CH Flessners International Harvester, the Neapolitan Mastiff, TC Bruno Della Veccia Roma, the Border Terrier, CH Tyrolian Eight Belles At Meadowlake, the Shih Tzu, CH Hallmark Jolei Austin Powers, the French Bulldog, CH Robobull Fabelhaft Im On Fire, the Beauceron, CH Dillinger Du Chateau Rocher.  His Best was the 2010 Westminster Non-Sporting Group winner, the Frenchie, his first all breed BIS this year. Congratulations to breeder/owner Shelly St John, owner James Dalton, and handler Perry Payson.

Saturday, only the Bloodhound & Border Terrier would be back to see judge Dana Cline.  They were joined by the ASCOB Cocker Spaniel, CH Broken Ridges Wild At Heart, the Kuvasz, CH Szumerias Sing A Song Of Six Pence, the Pug, CH Kenshei N Thats The Way It Is, the Dalmatian, CH BlackThorns Flower Power, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Mysharas Dream Girl.  BIS would go to the Pug, Walter.  It is the second for Walter & handler Dou Huffman.  Sunday John Madeiros would wrap it up with the aforementioned Border Terrier and Frenchie, the English Springer Spaniel, CH Wil-Orion Twenty Twenty, the Saluki, CH Blue Nile Vanilla Ice, the Neapolitan Mastiff, Bruno Della Vecchia Roma, the Smooth Chihuahua, CH Ayrwen Star Kissed Delight, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Kridlers Nutmeg V Signature.  It was the Springer, Titus.  We have that as his first all breed Best this year.  Congratulations to breeders Janice L Johnson & Erica R Johnson, owners Laurie Green, E Jesseman & Janice & Erika Johnson, and handler Jody Paquette.

Three hundred miles east of Dallas is Big Spring TX.  The hometown club gave us two shows this weekend.  The first on Saturday saw Charles Trotter choose the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Aspendel's Pale Rider JH, out of a final that included the Basset Hound, CH Kelmic’s Anjo Pepper of Bugle Bay, the Samoyed, CH Glacier’s Bright Wizard, the White Bull Terrier, CH Action Bogart Play It Again, the Pomeranian, CH Pufpride Somewhere In Time, the French Bulldog, CH Justus I’m Your Man, and the Rough Collie, CH Windcrest Swept Away.  It was the second this year for Leilly and handler Karen Newman.  Sunday Jane Forsyth saw Lilly, the same Bull Terrier & Frenchie, the Norwegian Elkhound, CH Jaru’s Who’s Your Daddy, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Horizon’s Upper Echelon, the Blueridge’s Katmandu At Kngz, and the Briard, CH Celbratia VintageEightyFour.  She chose the Doberman, Fallon.  Fallon was bred by Barbara Adams & Rick & Linda George who co-own Fallon with Hillary Zimmerman.  Congratulations to them all.

Eva Berg was in Pomona CA Sunday to choose a BIS for the Rio Honda Kennel Club.  Her final seven were the Golden Retriever, CH Gaia Of Yoshida Enterprise JP, the 15” Beagle, CH Shoreview’s The Blues Brothers, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Aviators Luck Be A Lady, the Kerry Blue Terrier, CH Trozian Onyx At Torum, the Havanese, CH Briarcliff My Special Angel, the French Bulldog, CH Bayhill Celebrate, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Cottonwood Pretty In Pink. Her choice was the country’s number one Portie, Ladybug.  It was the third this year for Ladybug and handler Amy Rutherford.

If you haven’t been to an AKC  dog show in the Pacific Northwest, you are missing some of the nation’s most spectacular dogs.  This weekend they were gathered in Elma WA for the Olympia Dog Fanciers Association’s two shows.  On Saturday Dana Plonkey gathered the Irish Water Spaniel, CH Poole's Ide Got Water, the Saluki, CH Carmas Indian Summer, the Samoyed, CH Shaman's Maid Of The Mist, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, CH Trugrip One Singular Sensation, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Top Banana, the Standard Poodle, CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, and the Australian Shepherd, Blue Isle's Bourree.  Best went to the Poodle making her first appearance as a Champion.  You may recall that she recently went BISS at the Poodle Club of America’s National Specialty from the classes.  It’s not often we get to name two DOGS2WATCH in the same week, but what can we say.  When they are good, they’re good.

Next we hear from Arizona White Mountain Kennel Club where the Smooth Chihuahua, CH Lugari Holiday Rocco, copped both of the two shows this weekend in Heber AZ.  On Saturday Dr Sophia Kaluzniacki held sway in the final ring.  Rocco was joined by the Parti-Colored Cocker Spaniel, CH Keda’s Hellz A Poppin’, the15” Beagle, CH Danter’s Son Of Trouble, the Rottweiler, CH Evrmor Xtraordinaire V Stoneridge, the Welsh Terrier, CH Bayleigh Shaireab Super Hero, the Dalmatian, CH Z’s Nspird In Black, and the Bearded Collie, CH Brigadoon Showstopper At Scott.  Sunday’s Dr Arthur Sorkin chose Rocco from a final that included the Brittany, CH Sunquest Cimmaron Catch The Wind, the Basenji, CH Jasiri-Sukari Buyckin The Trend, the above named Rottweiler, & Welsh, the Schipperke, CH Kenbe N Coda’s Midnight Express, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Donlee Jewel Of Aquitaine.  Rocco picked up his first 2010 BIS on March 27 and now has five for the year.  And that’s the stuff we look for in a DOG2WATCH.

TWO BIG WINNERS IN UTAH

There were four shows in suburban Salt Lake City UT this week and two dogs split the big rosettes between them.  The Pekingese, CH PalaceGarden Malachy took home Thursday‘s & Sunday‘s top prizes and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Bugaboo‘s Georgie Girl, grabbed Friday‘s & Saturday‘s Bests.  Although we did report earlier on Thursday’s show, let’s recap here for clarity’s sake.  Thursday judge Michele Billings saw the Peke, Malachy, the Golden Retriever, Aspenglo Is SheThe One, the Whippet, CH Starline’s Chanel, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Timbermist Foot Off The Boat, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Slyfox Sneak's A Peekthe Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Slyfox Sneak's A Peek, the Dalmatian, CH Tramac Just Walk'N On Sunshine, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Rocheuses Me And My Shadow Of Cornus.

Friday the OES was joined in Robert Caswell’s ring by the above named Whippet, Smooth Fox, Peke, & Dal, the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Casablanca's Thrilling Seduction, and the Great Pyrenees, CH Pyrpressure L'Orgueil.  Saturday’s Intermountain Kennel Club BIS was James Reynolds’ call.  In addition to his OES Best, he saw the same Cocker, Smooth Fox,  & Peke, the Afghan Hound, CH Thaon’s Mowgli, the Tibetan Mastiff, CH Seng Khri Bartok Of Dawa, and the Bulldog, CH Stellar's Usual Suspect.  Kimberly Anne Meredith-Cavanna closed it out Sunday with the previously seen Afghan, Great Pyrenees, Smooth Fox, & OES, the Weimaraner, CH Silhouettes LifeInTheFastlane, and the French Bulldog, CH Highwood's Big Shot.  With over 4000 dogs present & competing, we expect all the winners to move up in the rankings.  Congratulations to all the finalists.

We had pretty good coverage over the weekend of our eastern shows, so we will start our morning with a report fom Marshall TX where the Caddo Kennel Club of Texas held their two shows.  Saturday saw Randy Garren in the final ring with the Golden Retriever, CH Glengowan's Great Balls of Fire, the Wirehaired Dachshund, CH Roushland's Alexandra, the Mastiff, CH Lazy D's Bonnie Blu, the Scottish Terrier, CH Stalwart's Lyric, the Affenpinscher, CH Ferlin's Its All About Me, the Tibetan Terrier, CH Cedar C Barnstorm L&D Edition, and the Border Collie, CH Majestic Avatar Storm Warning.  There was a whole lot of shaking going on with the BIS going to the Golden, Jerry Lee.  That’s his second this year.

Sunday, Jerry Lee was the only one of the Saturday finalists to make it into Muriel Purkhiser’s BIS ring.  He was joined by the Otterhound, CH Scentasia's Double Trouble, the Rottweiler, CH Barstes Heard It On The X, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Dalriada's Mystic, the Papillon, CH Wildfire On The Rocks, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Chaoyang Chick Magnet at Asia,, the Australian Shepherd, CH Copperridges's Fire N Bayouland.  Her Best was the Shar-Pei, Magnum, his first this year.  Magnum finished 2009 with two all breed Bests and 12 Non-sporting Group top prizes.  Congratulations to breeders Lisa Lee Myers & Linda Cosier, owners Bonnie Berney & Helga Kamp, and handler David Williams.

Lowell Davis had day two duty today with the Crawford County Kennel Club in Bucyrus OH.  He chose from the English Setter, CH Kaska’s Capture The Moment, the Greyhound, CH Gaia Elfin Dance, the Giant Schnauzer, CH Skansen’s Sir August Brigs, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy Spaniel, CH Loujon‘s Backroads To Paris, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Westview‘s Run The Table, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Bugaboo’s Big Shot.   He chose AKC’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Smooth Fox, Dodger.  Our Top Three are nose to nose this weekend.  We will be the first to give you the results.

CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine

The folks in Watkinsville GA had so much fun at yesterday’s Oconee River Kennel Club show that they did it all over again today with Rober Vandiver doing BIS.  He saw the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Whippet, CH Sporting Field’s Bahama Sands, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Pouch Cove‘s Lonesome Dove, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Pekingese, CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Smooth Collie, CH Sunnland’s Grand Entrance. He chose the GWP, Tina, her second all breed Best this year.   Tina and handler Jane Alston-Myers have collected enough Sporting Group Wins to be in the top five Sporting Dogs.

And this is why we wait until we get all the results in before we do revise our Top Ten.  The country’s Number Ten Dog All Breeds, the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout, has posted back2back BIS wins in Jefferson WI, taking both yesterday’s Janesville-Beloit Kennel Club show & today’s Badger Kennel Club event.  Joining Scout in Jon Cole’s final Saturday were the Whippet, CH Kamada's Instant Millionaire, the Siberian Husky, CH Topaz T.R.O.U.B.L E., the Norwich Terrier, CH Abbedale Take Two At Taliesin, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy Spaniel, the Dalmatian, CH Daldorado Dotzinks Bond, and the Rough Collie, CH Highcroft Bourne Supremacy.

Today Susan St John Brown saw the same Norwich & Dalmatian, the Saluki, CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles Of Jatara, Rottweiler, CH Cammcastle's Friar Tuck, the Brussels Griffon, CH Knollands August Moon, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Limerick's Shakespeare.  We will have to wait for the final counts to come in to see if Scout can move up in the rankings.

A NEW TOP TEN?

CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins

Our east coast crowd was back in West Windsor Township NJ for today’s Trenton Kennel Club show.  Polly Smith had an outstanding seven, the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, CH Fireside’s Spontaneous Combustion, the Scottish Deerhound, CH Foxcliff Hickory Wind, The Giant Schnauzer, CH Skansen’s  C’Sofia Of Grandeur, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash JP Moonwalk, the Miniature Poodle, CH Splash Di Caprio, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.  It was the nation’s Number One Herding Dog, the Beardie, Roy, taking home another big win.  Alessandra Folz stood in for Roy's regular handler, Cliff Steele, braving the wild winds that threatened the brave souls who stayed for the final.  With over 2500 dogs entered, we think this win may be enough to put Roy and handler Cliff Steele into the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds.  We will reserve the call until after we get the rest of this weekend’s results in.
