The Newfie, Xander, took home the BIS, his first. Congratulations to breeder Giorgio Salina and owner Carol Bernard Bergmann.

PROUD, PROUD, PROUD

A reader sends in this report from the Genesee Valley Kennel Club show in Hamlin NY.

CH Petite Cherie Femme de Puissance

BIS went to the Afghan, breeder, Liza Jane. The five year old was bred by Elizabeth & Robert Berman, who co-own her with Joel Fisher DVM. Beth Berman handles Liza Jane. Congratulations to them all. We bet they’re proud, proud, proud.

PEKE IN MASSACHSETTS

We’ve heard from our I-Reporter in West Springfield MA where the competition is as hot as a firecracker.

CH Lin-Lee’s For The Good Times

Today’s host club was the Farmington Valley Kennel Club who chose Viginia Lyne as their Best In Show judge. She, in turn, chose from the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Celestial CJ’s Hearts On Fire, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Str Alisaton, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Graycottage Santeric Fyrestorm, the Pekingese, CH Lin-Lee’s For The Good Times, the Lowchen CH Chic Choix Bixhar Cuba, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

It was the Peke, winning the 1744 entry show. This should put the two year old on top of the Pekingese breed, if just barely.

ARE YOU HOT ENOUGH?

We’ve heard from the Trinity Valley Kennel Club, first out of the chute in Dallas TX.

CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams

It was Douglas Johnson who had the first final of the weekend Friday. His finalists were the Vizsla, CH Renaissance Girls Gone Wild, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Phillmar Sobe Monster, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, the Pug, CH Brazos River Legal Lion, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Lorac’s Yeshe Wonchhu, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

BIS went to the number three dog all breeds, the Puli, Conrad. If you’ve read all the of today’s reports, you now know that the top three dogs all went BIS today…talk about keeping the heat on.

SADIE BEST IN VENTURA

We have a report from Ventura CA where they started their three day weekend on Friday.

CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot

Today it was the Channel City Kennel Club with Toddie (Mrs. Houston) Clark in the BIS ring. Her finalists were the English Setter, CH Artizoe High Caliber, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Pupukearidge Ikaika O Sprngvlythe, the Boxer, CH Capri's Magic Maker Sassy, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, the Pekinese CH Dunkirk Backstage Pass, the Standard Poodle, CH Monfort Ariel Arietta, Pembroke Welsh Corgi CH Maplecreek Back in Black.

Her BIS was the little black steamroller, known to her fans as Sadie, the Scottie and the Nation’s number one dog all breeds. That’s Sadie’s fourth BIS in a row. She now leads the field by over 20,000 points and that’s because number to is trying so hard. Sadie is 30,000 points ahead of number three. Consider this, only one other dog has been able to gather 30,000 points in the first six months of the year.

DOG SHOW JEOPARDY

From a reader we have a report on Friday’s Jefferson City Missouri Kennel Club show in Sedalia MO. Many of our regular reporters have taken to giving us results in a insider vernacular so cryptic that sometimes we find ourselves saying, “I’ll have dog shows for $800, Alex.” Nonetheless, most of the time we do understand the shorthand.

CH Toasty’s Treasure Island

So we are fairly confident that James Fredericksen’s final seven were the Golden Retriever, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, the Basenji, CH Ab-Rafiki The Icon Of Cool, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Camlin Sea Dancer Makitso Secretariat, the Border Terrier, CH Devon Lady Semper Fi, the King Charles & Ruby English Toy Spaniel, CH Southdown Nonetheless, the Chines Shar-Pei, CH Guthries How Sweet It Is, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, CH Kingsbury Miss Lilly Of Claymore.

His BIS was the country’s number one sporting dog, currently the number six dog all breeds, the Golden, Treasure. It’s her first since June 6th and her 14th this year.

CATCHING UP IN MARYLAND

We were so absorbed with getting out regional rankings out that we neglected to tell you about yesterday’s Catoctin Kennel Club show in West Friendship MD.

CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle

Judge Nathaniel Horn’s seven were the Flat-Coated Retriever, CH Petersfield Famous Amos, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Samoyed, CH Pebble’s Run Hammy Davis Jr, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Merci Pour Le Poivre, the Toy Manchester Terrier, CH Burmack’s Rosie V Evrmor, the French Bulldog, CH Lucida’s Innocent Man Of Kobi, and the German Shepherd Dog, Alkara’s Puttin On The Ritz.

It was big dog day, with the biggest dog in the ring, the Wolfhound, taking home the BIS. While it is hard to over look these giants, this one has quietly worked his way up to the number two Hound spot and a top twenty all breed spot.

CH Rivergroves Trump This

Today, it was the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club hosting and Thomas Yates judging. The Wolfhound was back in the final, as was the Sealyham. Also on hand were the German Short Haired Pointer, CH Schomberg’s One Hot Ticket Deppe-Haus, the Great Pyrenees, CH Rivergroves Trump This, the Papillion, CH Arkeno’s Ear’s To You, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Valjean’s Miss Jayne Hathaway, and the Belgian Tervuren, CH Char-Ma’s Chosen One.

It was another big dog, the Pyrenees, Trump, muscling his way into the BIS. Trump brings a whole new definition to the term “white hot”. He has six BIS this year, all in the last two months.

UPDATED REGIONAL RANKINGS!

With a big sigh of relief, we are pleased to announce that we have finally caught up on our regional statistics and have updated our regional rankings. We will do everything we can to make sure we don’t get behind again. Our regional rankings are designed to give all you dedicated exhibitors a little more recognition for your hard work.

So scroll down and check out the rankings on the left hand side bar. and, please, let us know if you discover any errors. We didn’t go through all this work to get it wrong. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve earned a cocktail.

NUMBER TWO COMES THROUGH

We have results from West Springfield MA where today it was the Kenilworth Kennel Club Of Connecticut’s turn to host.

CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton

They chose Connecticut resident, Barbara W. Keenan, to judge BIS and she had the following seven: the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, the Scottish Deerhound, CH Gayleward’s Jaraluv Nike, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Italian Greyound, CH Honore’s Lilly-Belle, the Bulldog, CH Kepley‘s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Briard, CH déjà vu Up Close & Personal.

The Doberman, CJ, decided that she had played bridesmaid long enough and walked off with the BIS trophy today. She continues to outdistance the rest of the top ten in her pursuit of the number one dog. Meanwhile number four dog, the PBGV, Rokeena’s Carte Blanche, continues to struggle, losing in the breed again today. The stakes continue to be high, with over 1600 dogs entered today. We think you will be surprised at the movement in the rankings in the next few weeks.

MORE MASSACHUSETTS RESULTS

Larry Sinclair was the BIS judge today at the Holyoke Kennel Club show in West Springfield MA, the second of five shows there this week. Today’s entry was nearly 1400 dogs, again, not bad for a Thursday

CH Fleet St Fenway Fan

His seven finalists were the Labrador, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Celestial CJ’s Hearts On Fire, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Trevi’s Lonestar, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Mondrian VH Lamslag RE, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Puli, CH Moremi Mind Your Manners.

Both the PBGV and the Bernese had interesting routes to the final. The former had to get by the number one PBGV, number one Hound, and number dog all breeds, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, to get to the final. The latter had to get by the number one Doberman, the number one Working Dog, and the number two dog all breeds, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton. However, it was the black beauty, the Lab, RJ, posting his second BIS in as many days.

As we said ,this is a cluster that bears watching closely. We expect lots of surprises.

W SPRINGFIELD MA RESULTS

We know it’s only Wednesday, but for the folks up in West Springfield MA started their weekend early with the Naugatuck Valley Kennel Club hosting the first of five shows. We guess in New England you got to make the most of the good weather when you have it.

CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart

Today’s judge was Madeleine Fish and day one finalists were the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, the Basset Hound, CH Topsfield-Sanchu Pop Art O'Bridi, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Velvety Angel Eyes, the Pekingese, CH Lin-Lee’s For the Good Times, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

Today’s winner was the striking black Lab, RJ. RJ is the country’s number one Lab, number three Sporting Dog, and number 18 all breeds. This cluster bears watching. Not only were there over 1000 dogs entered on a Wednesday, but there are multiple top 20 dogs in the competition, as well as a couple of up and coming recent BIS winners.

WATCH THE WHIPPETS

We, AKC, & MBF are a little slow sometimes, but here are Monday‘s results from Monday’s Sandusky Kennel Club show in Lima OH.

CH Sportingfield's Bahama Sands

BIS went to the Whippet, her third in the lst three weeks. Seems suddenly we’ve got a bunch of BIS winning Whippets. We could end up with a real race in the Hound Group. How apropos.

THIS WEEK'S SHOWS

After the month of June’s plethora of shows, this week’s offerings seem meager by comparison. Only nine locations will host shows over the holiday weekend. However, the shows are well dispersed and just about everyone will find a show within easy access.

Our largest cluster is the five day Yankee Classic beginning tomorrow in West Springfield MA with the Kenilworth Kennel Club Of Connecticut, and the Naugatuck Valley, Holyoke, & Farmington Valley Kennel Clubs all taking turns. The Catoctin, Northeastern Maryland, Upper Marlboro, and National Capital Kennel Clubs will be staging four shows in West Friendship MD kicking off Thursday.

There are three day weekends beginning Friday in Sedalia MO, Dallas TX, and Ventura CA. Illini get in three shows by visiting the Blackhawk Kennel Club in Amboy on Saturday, then pulling up stakes and driving 50 miles northeast to De Kalb for two days with the Greater De Kalb KC. Standard two day fare is available in Hamlin NY, Monroe MI, and Beaverton OR.

So have your July 4th hot dog with some hot dogs at an AKC Dog Show this week. We wish you a safe and sane holiday.

We are now half way through the year and anything can still happen, We know we aren’t ready to bet the lunch money yet.

WRAPPING IT UP IN BAINBRIDGE

Let’s finish up in region one where the action was in Bainbridge NY and Wrentham MA. You have all the reports from Wrentham and most of the results from Bainbridge, but here’s what happened Sunday in New York.

CH Shadagee Caught Red-Handed

His Best was the Bulldog, her second of the weekend. Now back to that Irish. Emily, as she is known, just won the Irish Setter Club of America Nationality Specialty last weekend in Lancaster PA over an entry of nearly 500. Imagine that, 500 all red, all Irish, all Setters. Pretty Amazing. Then she follows that impressive win with three Group Ones this weekend. We think a special congratulations is due breeders Ellen Bieler, Debra & Tim Burke, owners Debbie Burke & Nancy Lee Conner, and handler Adam Bernardin.
