IDAHO ODYSSEY

Shoshone Falls, Snake River Canyon, ID

AKC clubs have become wonderfully innovative in their show offerings.  Just look at this week’s schedule and you will find some less than well traveled locales with multiple shows.  For those who just can’t get enough showing, head for scenic state of Idaho.  The fun begins tomorrow with the Snake River Canyon Kennel Club Of Idaho’s first of two shows in Filer after which the Eagle Rock Kennel Club & Pocatello Kennel Club will pick it up on Thursday 150 miles east in Blackfoot where they have four shows scheduled.

While no where else can you get six shows in one week, exhibitors in the Northeast will have a virtual smorgasbord of shows.  You can get four in upstate New York with the Olean Kennel Club & the  Conewango Valley Kennel Club in Dunkirk NY, three in New England with the North Shore Kennel Club & the Middlesex County Kennel Club in Topsfield MA, or two in eastern PA with the Bryn Mawr Kennel Club in Ludwigs Corner.

The sole Mid Atlantic option this week is in Waynesville NC where the Western Carolina Dog Fanciers Association has two shows scheduled.  There are even two shows in beautiful Palmetto FL courtesy of the St. Petersburg Dog Fanciers Association.

Once again there are lots of choice for fanciers in the Great Lakes states.  In Ohio it’s the Echo Hills Kennel Club Of Ohio two shows in Troy, in Michigan it’s the Grand Traverse Kennel Club two shows in their hometown, and in Illinois Terrier enthusiasts will sandwich the Great Lakes All Terrier Association’s Saturday event between the Little Fort Kennel Club Of Waukegan’s two shows, all in Grayslake.

In the Heartland, try the Fort Dodge Kennel Club’s twofer in Fort Dodge IA or the Rolla Missouri Kennel Club’s two shows at Purina Farms in Gray Summit MO, preceded by Friday’s Gateway Non-Sporting Dog Club limited breed show, or head down to the town with a split personality, Texarkana, for two shows with the kennel Club of Texarkana.  Both shows will be on the Arkansas side of town.

If you are on the West Coast you can opt for the Idaho odyssey or the Bahia Sur Kennel Club Of Chula Vista two shows in that Mexican border town.  Wherever you choose to visit an AKC dog show, prepare to fall in love with a pure bred AKC dog.
