SOMERSET HILLS KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari

Last year’s Somerset Hills Kennel Club show was canceled because of  storms that flooded the show grounds.  Today they raced to finish Joan Goldstein’s final in North Branch NJ ahead another major incoming storm.    But finish they did.

The seven braving the weather were the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, the Whirlaways Ida Belle's A Ringing, the Samoyed, GCH CH McMagic’s Candied Ham of Pebbles’Run, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Lomondview Clementina, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe v Tani Kazari, the French Bulldog, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Dunhill Celebration.

All that determination paid off for the GWP, Oakley, who picked up the Reserve, and for the Affenpinscher, Joey, who got the big BIS.  The win, worth better than 1800 points, is Joey’s 28th of the year.   The fast moving storm should clear the area tonight and fair weather is predicted for tomorrow’s Westchester County Kennel Club show.

THURSDAY & FRIDAY IN OKLAHOMA

GCH CH Skyscots Texas Hold’Em
(Photo  by Annette McDonald)

We love living in the South.  People down here generally keep the government at arms length and as a result it is very dog friendly country.  However, we do occasionally have some nasty weather, a situation compounded by the fact that we live in Memphis’ historic district where the trees are 200 years old and the power grid is nearly as old.  When you combine old trees and old power lines, you get frequent power outages.    We’ve suffered through two annoying outages in the last week, which has delayed us bringing you results.  So without out further explanations or excuses.  Here’s what’s been happening the last two days.

GCH CH Chancellor Flirt's High Flyin' Gladiator

Out in Elk City OK fanciers gathered Thursday for four days with the West Central Oklahoma Kennel Club.  On Thursday the Golden Retriever, Bravo Rycroft's A Wrink L N Thyme, the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Chancellor Flirt's High Flyin' Gladiator, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Skyscots Texas Hold’Em, the Toy Poodle, Donnchada Angel Wings At Dulcinea, the Bulldog, GCH CH Mytoys Epic Against the Wind, and the Rough Collie, CH Arrowhill Swords Held High all showed up in Charles Trotter’s final.

He went with the two black & tan dogs, the Rottweiler, Pilot, who got the Reserve, and the Norwich, Decker, who took home the Best In Show.  While Decker and handler Brenda Combs are no strangers to Oklahoma, we are delighted to see that Decker and Brenda have been out and about more this year.  The two of them together are a lot of fun to watch.  We will definitely be looking for this one at Montgomery.  We have this as Decker’s sixth big rosette of the year.

GCH CH Wind Dancer Jenstar Backstage Pass

Friday, Decker & Brenda, would be the only of the Thursday finalists to make it back to Bradley Jenkins final.  Making their first appearance of the set were the Vizla, Regal Point Pinnacle of Kilauea, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Soletrader Maggie May at M&M, the Boxer, GCH CH Winfall I Dream of Style, the Silky Terrier, GCH CH Wind Dancer Jenstar Backstage Pass, the Schipperke, GCH CH Dante Fire When Ready HOF, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Harmony Hills Money Talks.

Decker would pick up the RBIS and the Silky, Andy, would take the BIS.  It’s Andy is a multi specialty and Toy Group winner and  was the Silky Terrier breed winner at the 2011 AKC/Eulanuba National Championship.  This is his first all breed BIS.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Teresa Gallegos & Linda Hurt.

SCHOOLEY'S MOUNTAIN KC

GCH CH Jamelle’s Aristocrat v Elba

We turn to today’s results, starting with the Schooley's Mountain Kennel Club show in Morristown NJ.  The Metro New York crowd gather for the last of the four shows in New Jersey this holiday weekend and the outcome was as entertaining as the whole weekend has been.

The seven who stayed all day to see BIS judge Sue Goldberg were the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Shomberg’s Perfect Timing, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Whirlaway Ida’s Bells A Ringing, the St Bernard, GCH CH Jamelle’s Aristocrat v Elba, the Kerry Blue Terrier, CH Class Act of Hallsblu, the Yorkshire Terrier, GCH CH Embersglow Regal Fire in the Sky, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Spotlight’s Ruffian, and an Old English Sheepdog from the classes, Tana’s Legend of the West.

Tana’s Legend of the West

This set has surprised all weekend and today was no different. Taking the RBIS from the classes was the three year old OES, while the Two year old Yorkie took home the Best In Show.  Now, we hate it when we don’t have any information on a first time BIS.  All we can tell you about the winner is that she was bred and is owned by Madelyn Conley.  We send out our congrats to Madelyn and remind her that we post photos of all the BIS and RBIS winners gratis.

Now the nice thing about not having a photo of the BIS, is we get to feature a dog that we have been hearing about for some time, the St Bernard, Aristocrat.  Our long time readers know that the very first time we set foot in a show ring, we were in the company of our family’s pet St Bernard,  Every show we go to we always seek out the Saints and smile at the giants that remind us of the days we fell in love with the sport.

How come we don’t see more Saints in the BIS ring? They are among the most impressive dogs we see   We can remember when America was in love with the gentle giant and the breed was among the ten most popular breeds.  Perhaps if there were more like this one the public would again be clamoring to see them.  If your are in the Mid-Atlantic area seek this one out.  We think you will fall in love. Aristocrat was bred by Michele & Jack Mulligan, is owned by Linda & Edward Baker, and is handled by Melody (Snookie) Salmi

CABRILLO KENNEL CLUB

Her RBIS was the Portie and her BIS was the country’s Number One Terrier, the Wire, Sky.  Sky’s 23rd BIS of the year will keep her comfortably in the Number Four All Breeds spot.

Taking home the Reserve ribbon was the Rottweiler, Duke, while the Corgi, Dewi, got the top prize and all the points.  We think this is the first BIS for Dewi, but beyond that Dewi is a mystery to us.  We hope that someone will tell the owners to get us a photo to celebrate the occasion. Congratulations to breeder/owner Patrick Smith and owner Barbara J Tannahill.

A reminder to all you Reserve Best In Show winners, we do publish a photo of all RBIS winners.  It’s free, send in your photos and then tell your friends your dog got a DSP shout out.

Yesterday’s final was captained by Carolyn Herbel who chose her Top Two from the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Summits Emery It's In The Bag, the Treeing walker Coonhound, Alexanders Gold Rush Xcetera, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Kontoki's Isaiah Little Prayer For You, the White Bull terrier, Sandstone's Conceived In Liberty For Paradox , the Shih Tzu, Karyon's Ring of Fire of Shente, the Standard Poodle, Janeva Ruff And Honours, and the Rough Collie, GCH CH Milas Latin Lover.

The Top Two were the Standard Poodle, Pip, who took home the RBIS, and the Siberian, Isaiah, who grabbed the top spot.  It’s the second this year for Isaiah.  Both wins have come this summer.  We’ll keep our eye on this one.
