DAY THREE IN KALAMAZOO MI

GCH CH Meadowlake Pants On Fire

The hometown Kalamazoo Kennel Club had the coveted Saturday spot in that four show weekend. The seven dogs that stayed all day to see BIS judge Polly Smith were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Hillock's Bacardi CD RE CGC, the Whippet, GCH CH Kamada's New York Minute, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Cypress Bay's Big Sur, the Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlake Pants On Fire, the Brussels Griffon, GCH CH Chismick's Lights On Broadway, the Bulldog, GCH CH Cherokee Legend Cowboy, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar's Steel Blu.

The two taking the top awards were the Border Terrier, Cinder, with the BIS and the Bouvier, Blue, with the RBIS. Cinder is the country’s Number One Border Terrier and Number Seven Terrier with six BIS and 21 Terrier Groups this year.

DAY FOUR IN SALISBURY MD

GCH CH Flessner’s International Success 

It was déjà vu all over again as the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner’s International Success, repeated his Friday BIS at today’s Sailsbury Kennel Club show in that North Carolina town.

Joining Nathan and breeder/owner/handler Heather Helmer in Judge James Reynolds’ final were the Vizsla, GCH CH Solaris Tuzes Paprika JH CA CGC, the Black Russian Terrier, GCH CH Gladiator S Zolotogo Grada, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Goodspice Efbe’s Know Easy Way Out, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Yarrow’s Hi-Tech Ben There Done That, the RBIS, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Cherry Garcia, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical’s My Turn. The win brings The Number One Hound’s 2014 tally to 20 BIS and 73 Hound Groups.

DAY ONE IN TUCSON AZ

The Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, was in Tucson AZ on Friday, starting her weekend with a BIS at the Madera Canyon Kennel Club show. Judge Judy Webb also liked the Pomeranian, GCH CH Hitime What the Inferno, whom she gave the RBIS.

Rounding out judge Webb’s seven were the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH Vjk-Myst Garbonita’s California Journey, the Akita, GCH CH Sondaisa Fyre When Ready CD RN, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Carmel Still Kidding V Sole Baye, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Napachai Hilsman Throw Caution To The Wind, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Wigglesworth Thriller. Brazen is the country’s Number One Whippet and Number Two Hound with 12 BIS and 65 Hound Groups this year.

DAY ONE IN PUEBLO CO

GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect

The nation’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, stayed closed to home this week, collecting a Best In Show at Friday’s Southern Colorado Kennel Club in Pueblo CO.

Challenging Swagger for judge Sandy Wheat’s attention were the Brittany, GCH CH Rainbow Splash’s Ruggedly Handsome, the Saluki, GCH CH Starlite's Made Of The Best Stuff On Earth BN RN, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Dezperado's Hallelujah, the RBIS, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH First Class Willow Wind The Phoenix, the Pug, GCH CH Frisco's Let The Games Begin, and the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Vajes Gone With The Wind. It was the 80th BIS in 122 trips to the final ring this year.

DAY TWO IN SPRINGFIELD MO

GCH CH Lambluv’s Sultry Sensation 

 Judge Dr John Reeve-Newson was in Springfield MO Friday to call the final for the North Arkansas Kennel Club. The seven dogs seeking his favor were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, the Saluki, GCH CH Aurora’s The Song And Dance Man, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, GCH CH Derby’s Toast With Gusto, the Wire Fox Terrier, Beinnein Heaven Sent, the Brussel Griffon, GCH CH Fist Face A Penny For Your Thought, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv’s Sultry Sensation.

The two that succeeded were the OES, Andrew, and the Bichon, Bingo. It was the fourth BIS in 26 final appearances this year for Andrew and OES maven Jere Marder.

The nation’s Number Three Dog All Breeds, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, made it two in a row, taking Friday’s Decatur Alabama Kennel Club show.

Joining Flame in judge Janet Allen’s final were the German Wirehaired Pointer, Decatur Alabama Kennel Club, the RBIS, Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CH Raydachs Ride My Ducati SW, the Samoyed, GCH CH Tobil’s Storm Warning At Sunrise, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Char's Seattle Slew For Triple Crown, and the Beauceron, GCH CH De Joie Du Chateau Rocher CA. Flame’s 2014 resume now stands at 43 BIS and 110 Non-Sporting Groups.

GREATER MUSKEGON KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression De Matisse, became the second winningest dog of all time, taking his 217th career BIS at Friday’s Greater Muskegon Kennel Club show in Kalamazoo MI. The win eclipses the mark set by the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Registry’s Lonesome Dove, two decades ago.

Joining Matisse in judge Eric Ringle’s final were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Doc's Greyborn North Star Of Acadia, the Whippet, Kamada's Key To The Mint, the Border Terrier, GH CH Meadowlake Pants On Fire, the RBIS, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the Bulldog, GCH CH Dowats The Gladiator, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Just A Little Crush. The hometown Salisbury Maryland Kennel Club hosted day three of the Eastern Shore Classic on Friday and put judge Peggy Gutierrez-Otero in the final ring. Joining her were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner’s International S’Cess, the Black Russian Terrier, GCH CH Malahovskiy Graf Rossiyskiy CD CGC RAE CA, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Goodspice Efbe's Know Easy Way Out, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Sonnus Filho (Sanchez), the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Surrey Cherry Garcia, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical’s My Turn.

The North Arkansas Kennel Club crossed the state line to open the Ozark Mountain Cluster in Springfield MO on Thursday. Judge Joe Gregory’s final included the English Setter, GCH CH Stargaze'R 'N Wingfield Wait Wait Don't Tell, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Tashtin’s Lookin for Trouble, the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog, GCH CH Derby’s Toast With Gusto, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Appassionato JP Monamour’s Star, the Brussel Griffon, GCH CH Fist Face A Penny For Your Thought, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv’s Sultry Sensation.

His Best was the Griff, Penny, and his Reserve, the OES, Andrew. It was the third BIS in 22 final attempts this year for Penny, the daughter of the top winning Brussel Griffon of all time, CH Cilleine Masquerade.

 Last week were had but one venue offering more than two shows. This week we have six. Decatur AL is the site of the four day Cotton Cluster. The hometown Decatur Alabama Kennel Club hosted Thursday's opener and asked judge Dawn Hansen to take the final ring.

 It was the 42nd BIS and 109th Non-Sporting Group this year for Flame and handler Sarah Perchick.

Judge Garry Newton had the final at the Talbot Kennel Club’s day two final in Salisbury MD and his pick of the English Setter, GCH CH Weymouth’s En Fuego, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, GCH CH Icecream V Tum-Tum‘s Vriendjes, the Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca’s Trade Secret, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Darwyn Here For A Good Time, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Yarrow's Hi-Tech Ben There Done That, the Coton de Tulear, CH Just Incredible Chanel, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Ha'Penny Mirimar The Fab Fawn.

The Country’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression De Matisse, was in Kalamazoo MI to take the BIS at today’s West Michigan Harvest Cluster opener, the Pontiac Kennel Club show.

Joining Matisse in judge Dr Eric Liebes’ final were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeen's Under The Influence, the Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlake Pants On Fire, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the RBIS, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Shine's Deck The Halls, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar's Steel Blu. 

Matisse has the best record of any dog in the last three decades with 216 career BIS, tying the record second by the second winningest dog of all time the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Registry’s Lonesome Dove. This year Matisse has 121 BIS and 158 Working Groups.

The judge from Mexico chose the Miniature Poodle, Cherry, as her BIS and the Welsh Terrier, Trooper, as her RBIS. It was the first BIS in ten tips to the final ring for Cherry and breeder/owner/handler Kaz Hosaka. Congratulations to Kaz and fellow breeder/owner Kathleen Wallen.

Our next report comes in from Sunday’s Brandon Kennel Club of Mississippi. The seven dogs that stayed to the end to see BIS judge Gloria Geringer were the German Shepherd Pointer, GCH CH Ehrenvogel Achy Breaky Heart, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Elmo’s Martian Chronicles, the Great Dane, GCH CH Journey’s Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Brynnmawr N Seaplume’s Built Tough, the Maltese, GCH CH Rhapsody's Someone Like You, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH R-Lee Sparkle Plenty, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Wyndfalls Who Says V Chablis. 

Taking the BIS was the Great Dane, Monroe. Collecting the RBIS was the Maltese, Adele. It was the first BIS in two trips to the final ring this year for Monroe. Congratulations to breeders Troy & Kim McClure, owner Leslie Hotchkiss, and handler Earl Shore. We hope to have a photo for you soon.

The Saluki, GCH CH Aurora’s The Song and Dance Man, made it two in a row, taking Sunday’s Tri-State Kennel Club Best In Show.

Joining Sammy in judge Marjorie Martorella’s final were the Vizsla, GCH CH Renaissance XXXs And OOOs, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Kilyka's Three Sheets At Aegir RN, the RBIS, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, GCH CH Cumhill Hell Raiser, the Maltese, GCH CH Scruffy's-Validian Busy Buzzing Around, the French Bulldog, CH Escada Del Veintisiete At Qazara, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables Jolie Victor Ludorum. 

 Sammy is not out every weekend and is always handled by one of his two owners, Gene Blake or Julie Mueller, but he still has managed to collect three BIS and 11 Hound Groups in tough competition this year…pretty impressive.

Our second West Coast offering this week was the Southern Oregon Kennel Club in Central Point OR. Judge Jeanne Zuver had the closing final and his pick of the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay it Forward, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Vin-Melca's Daggarwood Delight, the Akita, GCH CH Mojo's Continuation Of A Myth, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Michan's Mick Like A Rolling Stone, the Brussels Griffon, GCH CH Hilltop's GQ Cover Boy, and the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Njoy Diamond In The Making, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH GCH CH Copper Hills No Reservations.

The Tennessee Valley Kennel Club asked judge Rita Holloway to take their Sunday final. The seven dogs she saw were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Tashtin’s Lookin for Trouble, the Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca’s Trade Secret, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the Bulldog, GCH CH Imperious Hamitup Southern Bell, and the Smooth Collie, GCH CH Chrysalis Formal Wear PT.

 Her BIS was the Bulldog, Annabelle, and her RBIS was the Pug, Rufus. It was the first BIS in 19 final appearances this year for Annabelle and breeder/owner/handler Jean Hetherington. Judge Robert Stein was in Bloomsburg PA on Sunday to call the BIS at the Back Mountain Kennel Club show. The seven dogs he considered were the Pointer, GCH CH Chesterhope My Boys Girl, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Cypress Bays Big Sur, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s To Russia with Love, the Pekingese, GCH CH Pequest General Tso, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Diva's Bastille My Heart, and the Finnish Lapphund, CH Lumiturpa Tapakka.

He chose the Scottie, Knopa, as his Best and the Afghan, Rider, as his Reserve. Knopa is the nation’s Number One Scottish Terrier and Number Three Terrier with eight BIS and 45 Terrier Groups.

ANTELOPE VALLEY KENNEL CLUB

The Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, continued his winning ways on Sunday, taking the BIS at the Antelope Valley Kennel Club show in Southern California. 

GCH CH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe 

Judge Eric Ringle also liked the Basset Hound, GCH CH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, whom he named his RBIS. Rounding out his seven were the German Shorthaired Pointer, GCH CH VJK-Myst Garbonita’s California Journey, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH GCH CH Mistic's Longfellow Serenade, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo's Save Hjour Love For Me, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Hitime What the Inferno, and the Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Rufkins Hunk Of Burnin' Love. 

Swagger is the winningest Old English Sheepdog of all time with 103 career BIS. Sunday’s win brings his 2014 tally to 79 BIS and 121 Herding groups.

Judge Douglas Johnson closed the five day Old Fort Cluster in Fort Wayne IN on Sunday, choosing the Number One Dog All Breeds, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, as his Best In Show at the Northeastern Indiana Kennel Club show. 

GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power 

Challenging Matisse for the win were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the RBIS, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

Regular readers know we are a fan of the smaller, “boutique” shows. They often showcase some of the country’s best dogs in venues that are leisurely and enjoyable. Saturday’s Concho Kennel Club show in San Angelo TX was such a venue. Judge Randy Garren’s Best in Show was AKC’s Number One Cardigan Welsh Corgi, the multi-BIS winning, GCH CH Riverside Tailtell Coco Posh.

With just over 600 dogs yesterday’s Southern Oregon Kennel Club was one of two West Coast offerings this week. The seven dogs that stayed all day to see judge Dr Ruby Hertz were the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward, the Borzoi, GCH CH Aashtoria Wildhunt Hidden Agenda, the Alaskan Malamute, GCH CH Peace River's Gathers No Moss at Sunstra, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Michan's Mick Like A Rolling Stone, the Long Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Jetstar's Simply Outrageous, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline's Unit Of Measure, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Foxlore Xmas Kane Jareaux. 


GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward 

Going to the head of the line was the Akita, Mick, followed by the Field Spaniel, Gideon. It was the third BIS in 21 trips to the final ring in 2014 for Mick and handler Martin Glover.

There were better than 800 dogs in Joplin MO for Saturday’s Tri-State Kennel Club show. At the end of the day judge George Boulton saw the Vizsla, GCH CH Renaissance XXXs And OOOs, the Saluki, GCH CH Aurora’s The Song and Dance Man, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Kilyka's Three Sheets At Aegir RN, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Plk's Incredibly Delicious, the Chinese Crested, GCH CH Zen's Cirque Du Soleil, the Miniature Poodle, CH Marrett’s I Live For The Applause, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables Jolie Victor Ludorum.

Best went to the Saluki, Sammy D, and Reserve to the Sheltie, Ludo. Like the Afghans, we are lucky this year to have several BIS winning Salukis out. Sammy was lead to the win by one of the sport’s premier sighthound experts, breeder/owner Gene Blake. It was the second BIS in ten trips to the final ring this year for Sammy D.

BACK MOUNTAIN KENNEL CLUB 1

GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir 

Yesterday’s Back Mountain Kennel Club show in Bloomsburg PA was just shy of 1000 dogs. The seven who made it to judge Joan Goldstein’s final were the Irish Setter, GCH CH Stoneypoint's Time to Reign, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Phillmar Superman, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan’s To Russia with Love, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country Tag I’m It, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sings Po-Ba-Ri At Arundina, and the Smooth Collie, GCH CH Alexy Handsome Devil. 

Finishing one/two were the Afghan and the Setter. We have several BIS winning Afghans competing this year. It was the fifth BIS in 16 final appearances this year for Rider and handler Phil Schafmayer.
