There are very few rules. Feel free to cheer for your favorites and make fun of the spectators. Just please, this is a PG 13 room. 2. Welcome! We have been doing breed coverage and we will be doing commentary on the group. So stay right here.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Visit the Westminster site for detailed results and a marked catalog.

    ReplyDelete
  4. That's http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/

    ReplyDelete
  5. I heard Andrew Doyle fell and is now on life support. Apparently this happend in home. Very sad!

    ReplyDelete
  6. The Hound Group will be up first with Patricia Craige Trotter, teh Elkhound breeder, judging.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Go Sadie go!!!!

And if it can't be you, Go Charmin Go!!!

    From the Scottie News.

    ReplyDelete
  8. With Ouija absent and upsets in the PBGV and American Foxhound, the Harrier, Coda has a good shot at it. Look for the Basset and my dark horse the Afghan.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Afghans are so beautiful! I can't imagine trying to maintain that gorgeous coat though!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Nothing moves like an Afghan. I had one I couldn't keep fenced. He could clear his eight foot kennel fence.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Welcome, Amanda. Nice of you to stop by.

    ReplyDelete
  12. This is a great idea Billy! The harrier is a fabulous representative of the breed. The Bloodhound is also a beautiful dog. :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. My Cairn is barking at the Coonhound. lol.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I like the Black and Tan

    ReplyDelete
  15. I heard this dog won the Central New Jersey Hound show this weekend (the longhair dachshund)

    ReplyDelete
  16. This dog upset the number one Am Foxhound today

    ReplyDelete
  17. Wow. Interesting. Nice stack there... Do the dogs seem a bit fidgety?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Oh my goodness I've talked with the owner of the B&T on a message board- go Mazzie! How exciting!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I watched the breed video for English Foxhounds and the dog was worse during the breed. Billy I was suprised when the number one American Foxhound got beat!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Welcome everyone. I'm glad you joined us. There have been some surprise today. Both the Foxhound and the PBGV were upsets, although the PBGV wasn't as much of an upset.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Look for the Greyhound in this half.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Thanks Billy! I attended the AKC Open House yesterday with my dog's breeder and another woman with a dog from the breeder. We loved seeing the beautiful paintings and the library.

I met a judge (can't remember the name, shame on me) who bred the Afghan Tryst. I was just reading up on the story and it was amazing. The judge was so nice, so friendly and I am definitely new to the dog show world!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's Taffe McFadden with the Greyhound

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ahhh...Taffe with the Greyhound. Not quite the showdog as Spirit!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I love the harrier! Bring home a win!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Harrier is such a stunning dog.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Note the lack of angulation in the Harrier. It's a breed characteristic

    ReplyDelete
  28. This is a very nice wolfhound and a big winner

    ReplyDelete
  29. Oh this is so fun. Thank you for all your hard work Billy... it is neat to recognize dogs from the Dog Show Poop top 10!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Why is the handler wearing a hat?!

    ReplyDelete
  31. One of our rarest breeds, the Otterhound

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'd be so nervous showing and Elkhound to Pat Trotter

    ReplyDelete
  33. Looks like the PBGV is a crowd favorite!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree. They look like such happy dogs!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Look how light that dog is on his feet.

    ReplyDelete
  36. ok, Billy...what's your guess for the ribbons?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I have Coda first, Basset second, PBGV third, and Afghan, fourth. Come on be brave, pick a favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Disappointing to see the Ibizan Hound. A very poor representation of this beautiful breed. Nice gait on that Otter Hound! PBGV showed well, as usual!

    ReplyDelete
  39. WOW!! That's a surprise!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Well, it was a great group! We sucked at picking winners but still great all around.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Well, I totally blew that one. I had heard that Pat really liked Ouija. Too bad she decided to pull.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That was a total shocker.... WOW.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not a surprise to me. Pat Trotter is known to like wire coats!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I am surprised that Taffe didn't make the cut/

    ReplyDelete
  45. I wonder if Pat Trotter thought that was Ouija?

She left some nice dogs out of the cut, the Afghan, Greyhound etc.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm sure she knew it wasn't

    ReplyDelete
  47. Uno, has been such a great ambassador for our support.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Angel on a Leash program is awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Don't forget we switch to CNBC on the hour.

    ReplyDelete
  50. In the Terrier Group look to see whether Gabriel Rangel has the Scottie or the Westie.

    ReplyDelete
  51. LOL! Do you think that CNBC outbid USA or did USA opt to air the wrestling program??

    ReplyDelete
  52. WHERE IS THE SHOW???

    ReplyDelete
  53. My Welsh Terrier pick decided to skip the show. They thought she was too young. Group Firsts at Palm spring and a BIS already. I think I would have brought her.

    ReplyDelete
  54. However, my Bedlington pick won the breed and she has a huge European following staying up to watch.

    ReplyDelete
  55. My smooth Fox pick also on the breed. He is a youngster too.

    ReplyDelete
  56. That smooth fox is nice

    ReplyDelete
  57. That smooth fox is BEAUTIFUL! I had the chance to play with him a few weeks ago. A young boy.

    ReplyDelete
  58. the smooth fox is my favorite to terrier group

    ReplyDelete
  59. Guess Gabriel thinks Peter Green will like his Scottie!

    ReplyDelete
  60. In your opinion do the exotic and newer breeds have an advantage over the older exstablished breeds?

    ReplyDelete
  61. Thanks for hosting this, Billy! At the end - could you name the winners (just breed will be ok) - I do not have cable and I am depending on you guys that are so lucky to be able to see the competition :-) Go Scottie :-)

    ReplyDelete
  62. I think that was one of the best things to ever happen...I'm so happy right now

    ReplyDelete
  63. I think that at other shows that might be gtrue. Judges like to be the first to put up a new breed BIS, but not here.

    ReplyDelete
  64. What was the conflict of interest about? At least they did win their breed!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Note that's a liver much more rare than the blue Bedlington

    ReplyDelete
  66. Ernesto use to work for Peter and Ernesto I believe was taught pretty much everything he knows from Peter

    ReplyDelete
  67. Amber, the conflict was that the handler leased the judge's business from him.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Gosh, another conflict!

    ReplyDelete
  69. Oh come on with the conflicts, replace the judge!

    ReplyDelete
  70. Doesn't this go back to the discussion some weeks ago that the judges are posted in advance and it's the handler's option to enter or not!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Newbie question! If there is a conflict would they not know that before they go into the ring? Is it to just give "props" that they won breed?

    ReplyDelete
  72. Hey bill, Do to the delay when you say "that" dog we don't know "which" dog you are refering....

    ReplyDelete
  73. Replacing Peter Green is a not an easy task

    ReplyDelete
  74. We covered the Sporting and Hound shows before Westminster, www.westminsterweekenddogshows.com, pretty impressive seeing some of the top dogs and handlers showing tonight that we saw this past weekend! We did an interview with this judge, Peter Green, you can view it here: http://tinyurl.com/cxrbcm

    ReplyDelete
  75. I don't thin they should have brought Lucas to the Group Ring. It appears to the novice that he tried to put one over on Peter.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I love the Glen Imal Terriers! They are great looking dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  77. But if they can't represent their breed in the BOG then the runner-up should automatically get the chance!

    ReplyDelete
  78. Thanks for that Katie. Who won those shows?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Nice moving Kerry Blue! Irish Terrier was also a nice dog.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Flatcoat won the Group on Thursday night - we saw the Foxhound and the Harrier that were in Hounds tonight, loved the Foxhound. You can watch all of the videos for free on our site. Lots of beautiful sporting dogs there this weekend, I can't pick a favorite! I have to say the English Setter that won BOB on Sunday was beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  81. From the Newbie, that is a great point about the runner up getting the chance then to go. Why not change handlers? This is great Billy, what a way to learn the ropes!

    ReplyDelete
  82. Why did they not just put different handlers on the Airdale and the Cairn. If the handler does not own the dog, it is not a conflict of interest with a different handler?

    ReplyDelete
  83. RE: the prior Group Winner that was the Scottish Deerhound, CH Gayleward's Tiger Woods

    ReplyDelete
  84. I'm sure Peter knows those two dogs so yes it may still be a conflict

    ReplyDelete
  85. Peter has seen most of these dogs before. If there is a genuine conflict the dog should not be entered. If there is no conflict, then show the dog and let the gossips faint.

    ReplyDelete
  86. The Pointer, Holly was not entered because of a perceived conflict. Same with the BIS winning Doberman, CJ

    ReplyDelete
  87. I agree, To disallow the breed to show in Best of Group is a diservice to the group and dilutes the show!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Besides at this level everyone knows everyone. There's no way you can avoid every confict.

    ReplyDelete
  89. It is interesting to watch Peter judge, it will be fun to see what he does. So far I like the Lakey and the Mini bull.

    ReplyDelete
  90. The Lakeland is one of my DOGS2WATCH

    ReplyDelete
  91. hellooo
    who won the hound group?

    ReplyDelete
  92. the Scottishe Deerhound, CH Gayleward's Tiger Woods

    ReplyDelete
  93. We covered interviews with some prominent British owners/handlers/judges here! http://tinyurl.com/c9wydh

    ReplyDelete
  94. LOL my dog is sitting in front of the tv with her head cocked watching the dog show. Too cute.

    ReplyDelete
  95. My Cairn barked at all the Hounds, but hasn't noticed any of the Terriers. You think she's a bigot?

    ReplyDelete
  96. This is a NICE group. Wow!

    ReplyDelete
  97. I wish they would get back to a more natural look for the Westies.

    ReplyDelete
  98. I like the mini bull, smooth fox, glen of imal, soft coated wheaten

    ReplyDelete
  99. I say Sealie, Scottie, Lakeland, & Smooth Fox

    ReplyDelete
  100. That's the 2008 number seven all breed dog, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes of Maryscot, aka Sadie

    ReplyDelete
  101. The Scottie looked great this evening. She had it all together!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Wow, didn't see the last 2 coming.

    ReplyDelete
  103. At least Ellie, the white bull, made the cut. This was a strong group of dogs in my opinion. Would have been nice to see Charmin win the group 1 but it could have gone to anyone in that cut.

    ReplyDelete
  104. I like the way Peter went back and pulled the Scottie & Sealie almost as an after thought! Keep the tension going!

    ReplyDelete
  105. Do we have any Non-Sporting folks in the house? I only have one pick in this Group.

    ReplyDelete
  106. A bit off topic but has there been any PETA interference at the show itself?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Thanks for the vote of confidence on the welsh Billy! We just might bring her next year! And, I'll probably make the long trek down from Canada :-)

    ReplyDelete
  108. PETA rarely delivers on their threats. If they didn't get free press for a month, they would disappear.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Our dog finally woke up to watch some of the show lol

    ReplyDelete
  110. Who won? Sadie the Scottie? Was Charmin number two?

    ReplyDelete
  111. Non-Sporting Group Judge is Charlotte Patterson from Destin FL.

    ReplyDelete
  112. The Non-Sporting breed judging was full of upsets today

    ReplyDelete
  113. How any judge can pick a best among this group is beyond me, has to be the hardest of the groups to judge

    ReplyDelete
  114. The Bichon was a surprise winner, the number two Standard Poodle didn't even get an AOM today, two BIS winning Tibetan Terriers lost in the breed.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Either that's an exceptionally large handler or an exceptionally small Chow Chow

    ReplyDelete
  116. that was a nice dalmation

    ReplyDelete
  117. Can you extrapolate a little on the re-making of the groups?

    ReplyDelete
  118. Michael Brantley is very tall (Chow handler) and the Chow is a bitch, so smaller than we're probably used to seeing on the televised shows.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Honestly, I don't know much about it. It used to be that everyone in the Group were perfectly happy to be there. After all there were fewer breeds and your shot at a group placement was pretty good. However, in recent years more and more of the new breeds were stuck in the Non-
Sporting group, in part, because the other Groups didn't want them. Now there needs to be some realignment, but it remains contentious. Any one else want to jump in?

    ReplyDelete
  120. I think this poodle will be hard to beat

    ReplyDelete
  121. The Miniature Poodle was bred by the handler, Kaz Hosaka, who handles the Toy Poodle, Walker.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Seems I heard him say something about a "spitz" group.....

    ReplyDelete
  123. gorgeous shiba inu..can he pull an upset?

    ReplyDelete
  124. There has been some movement toward a Nordic group of dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  125. If anyone beats Yes, the Standard Poodle, it will be an upset.

    ReplyDelete
  126. poodles are stiff competition

    ReplyDelete
  127. Interseting, then the samoyed and husky, and malumutes would get pulled from the working group?

    ReplyDelete
  128. OK, I will go as far as Yes, first, but after that I am at a loss.Maybe the Bulldog, a local favorite and a BIS winning bitch.

    ReplyDelete
  129. So far I like the Bulldog, with my friend Phoebe, the Dal and the Mini Poodle

    ReplyDelete
  130. I think YES will get it.

    ReplyDelete
  131. gawd no, not another poodle......

    ReplyDelete
  132. Yes is nice but I'm suprised Kaz didnt get anything

    ReplyDelete
  133. and deservingly so!

    ReplyDelete
  134. I really wish they would show the standards with a field cut......

    ReplyDelete
  135. Yes was stunning tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Rick, I'm talking out of school here, because I have not talked to anyone who is involved in the process, but that's the whole problem. Them that has don't want to give it up. I don't see the Sammie, Siberiam, Malamute folks saying, "Oh, sure let's leave the home we've had for 80 years."

    ReplyDelete
  137. Proposed new groups starts on page 12 of this PDF:
    http://www.akc.org/pdfs/about/board_minutes/1008.pdf

    ReplyDelete
  138. a good big poodle is an awesome animal. They are elegant, athletic, and very, very smart. Yes is a very good one.

    ReplyDelete
  139. Thanks, Amber, I'll take a look at that. I've heard it's going to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  140. Katie - you made a comment about the English Setter that won on Sunday. Do you know what English Setter it was? I am trying to find out if Aritzoe's High Caliber won at either of the specialties, or the shows this weekend? Anyone know?

    ReplyDelete
  141. I wonder why Jimmy Moses was not there?

    ReplyDelete
  142. JJ SAYS THIS IS GREAT THIS IS UNREAL FRONT ROLL SEATS

    ReplyDelete
  143. If the judge has been in GSD for 30 years, he has to know Jimmy.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I was told that he was going with his assistant and then was suprised when I saw him absent

    ReplyDelete
  145. So a conflict of interest with Jimmy?

    ReplyDelete
  146. Don't know, but Jimmy was one of the few handlers entered who has won Westminster,

    ReplyDelete
  147. the border collie was nice

    ReplyDelete
  148. The australian sheperd was fantastic...btw thanks alot for the link on the grouping changes!

    ReplyDelete
  149. so are these changes really going into affect?

    ReplyDelete
  150. One has to wonder how many of these dogs we are seeing are fed pedigree ;)

    ReplyDelete
  151. thats not SAX is it?

    ReplyDelete
  152. In the first half I liked the Beardie, the Border and the Bouvier.

    ReplyDelete
  153. Where was Sax's female handler?

    ReplyDelete
  154. Anonymous - English Setters BOB on Sunday Final Cut - http://westminsterweekenddogshows.com/videos/english-setter-best-breed-final-cut-feb-8th

    Beautiful dog!

I saw her ad in the Westminster Dog News... awesome dog!

    ReplyDelete
  155. This lady has had a lot of OES at the Garden

    ReplyDelete
  156. Wow, upset in the Pembrokes? I would have expected Shelton's Corgi to be the BOB winner.

    ReplyDelete
  157. That is a nice sheltie!

    ReplyDelete
  158. Puli definately had charisma!

    ReplyDelete
  159. nice sheltie but i think the puli will win

    ReplyDelete
  160. I'm going Puli, Rough Collie, Bouvier, and OES

    ReplyDelete
  161. I think it will be the OES or the Puli. The Beardie should get a placement.

    ReplyDelete
  162. I agree with the Briard...it should have had something but I agree with the Puli

    ReplyDelete
  163. Puli should have had Group 2, Corgi should have won

    ReplyDelete
  164. Pretty dam close Billy

    ReplyDelete
