Hello everyone. Welcome to day to of our annual Garden Party. Yesterday was full of surprises and today has had some major upsets. Can't wait to see what else happens.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to refresh your screen frequently to see comments.
ReplyDeleteThe biggest upset of the day was in Irish Setters where the Country's number two dog all breeds, CH Shadagee Caught Red Handed, was beaten by a very nice dog.
ReplyDeleteThe Wire Fox was a surprise to me too.
ReplyDeleteHi, Minaret. The Wire Fox was not a surprise, but it was an upset.
ReplyDeleteI mean I wasn't surprised
ReplyDeleteThe Smooth Fox competition was really tough too.
ReplyDeleteBut the favorite did make it through.
ReplyDeleteAaron Bradshaw just won best junior! Congratulations Aaron!
ReplyDeleteGood for Aaron!
ReplyDeleteAnybody have a favorite tonight?
ReplyDeleteI've been wantiung to see this Black Cocker
ReplyDeleteexcuse my typos. I'm using my mini which has long battery life.
ReplyDeleteYeah, Christy. This judge gave Emily a BIS in Canada
ReplyDeleteThe GWP was the number two Sporting Dog in 2009
ReplyDeleteI could see the GWP doing something.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
Only a little more than half of my picks have made it out of the breeds
ReplyDeleteI always say never bet the lunch money on a dog show
ReplyDeleteThe Golden was the number one Sporting dog, number four all breeds last year
ReplyDeleteThis Lab was a surprise to me as well
ReplyDeleteIDK I've seen the golden look better, shes not the best right now, I think they are going to show a new one, since the shows I've been out they have been only showing Tresure one day.
ReplyDeleteI like this English. He ids normally only shown in Newe England
ReplyDeleteI wish CH Casbar Hart to Hart had been the lab BOB much nicer
ReplyDeleteThe Scottish Terrier and Dog News is Team Sadie all the way.
ReplyDeleteI like the German Wirehaired, the Flat coated retriever, the English Setter so far
ReplyDeleteAlso was rooting for the GSP due to a new owner-handler, but she didn't show so well
The Gordon is my dark horse in this group
ReplyDeleteWe have any Sporting people here?
ReplyDeleteI like red and whites. Be interesting to see what they do in the future.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
I want some expert opinion on the Irish Setter's tail carriage.
ReplyDeleteI am a sporting girl- Rheingold vizslas
ReplyDeleteDebra
Can't seem to post on anything but Anonymous
some new co-owners on the Black Cockeer Spaniel
ReplyDeleteI would pull the English over the Brit
ReplyDeleteWould not have been my choice for the setter either Debra
ReplyDeleteThank you, Christy. I thought so too, very distracting
ReplyDeleteThat is one nice Cocker
ReplyDeleteThe Black
ReplyDeleteBilly, Do you know who the dog is that they were just talking about that was 9 months old & went Best at Westminster?
ReplyDeleteNo, but I will look it up
ReplyDeleteIT WAS A ROUGH COLLIE. it happened many years ago.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
The youngest dog to win was a Rough Collie named Ch. Laund Loyalty of Bellhaven, at 9 months old in 1929
ReplyDeleteThe youngest dog to win was a Rough Collie named Ch. Laund Loyalty of Bellhaven, at 9 months old in 1929
ReplyDeleteGot to love Google
ReplyDeleteI read it in one of my Fav dog books the westminster kennel club book cleabrating the 125th anniversery.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
Yes! Love Google!! Thanks for the info. That's impressive & I imagine an exciting time back then!
ReplyDeleteThat English Springer beat an impressive group of dogs in Long Beach befoe the National Championship
ReplyDeleteI hsve that book!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Weimaraner
ReplyDeleteIts a great book isn't it, I really learned alot about the history of our sport from that book.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
I like the German Wirehaired, Flat coated retriever, English Setter, Clumber, field spaniel, Irish water spaniel, and the pointing griffon
ReplyDeleteAnd I have to root for Alessandra with Gedeon, the vizsla, as it is my breed
Debra
Picks? I Like the Black Cocker
ReplyDeleteNice English, Flat Coat, WireHair German and Black Cocker. I have a soft spot for Vizsla though, the Golden is very nice but not "on" tonight. Sue Bani
ReplyDeleteWow - guess he is seeing it completely different than I did! With his cut - I'd take the wirehair! Sue Bani
ReplyDeleteNice group
ReplyDeleteWOW!!!The Brittany. Surprise
ReplyDeleteDebra
wow nice to see something different! nice britt and its great to see american water spanials do something since they are a rarer breed.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
The Brittany is a nice package. Another Westminster shake up! I agree - a nice group, this year it seems to be a common theme - all the groups have had some very nice dogs in them so far! sue B
ReplyDeleteHi Folks - some of us are relying on this forum for placements. Could you please update the placements as they are available. Thanks
ReplyDeletehoping for some more upsets, I want Pokey the norwich to win the terrier group.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
not the best norwich I've seen but wouldn't mind seeing an upset in the group
ReplyDeleteWho else placed in the group.... come on Folks ...
ReplyDelete1. Brittany, Ch Willowick Talltean
ReplyDelete2. ?
3. Gordon Setter, Ch Firethorn And Sandpiper Easy On The Eyes
4. Lab, Ch Beechcroft Study's Top Secret
2. Irish water spaniel
ReplyDeleteWho was second?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think that the lab seemed a bit overdone? Sorry, but for the sake of discussion while we are waiting - while it was a nice lab, moved well, and showed very nicely - I just felt like there was a lot of dog there for the breed? Sue B
ReplyDelete1. Brittany, Ch Willowick Talltean
ReplyDelete2. Irish Water Spaniel, CH Poole's Ide Got Water RN
3. Gordon Setter, Ch Firethorn And Sandpiper Easy On The Eyes
4. Lab, Ch Beechcroft Study's Top Secret
I with you Sue, way too heavy for me
ReplyDeleteI have owned and shown Dobermans for over 30 years, so you know where I am with the next group! CJ is gorgeous and Rissa shows her so well! Sue B
ReplyDeleteCan't believe he did not use the golden or the German Wire Hair
ReplyDeleteThanks Billy - I thought maybe it was just me!
ReplyDeleteSue
CJ has the most intense expression I've ever seen in a Doberman
ReplyDeleteI heard a rumor that CJ is retiring. Did anyone hear that?
ReplyDeleteShe is so fun to be around though, they were benched next to my three at Phildelphia KC and she is really a great dog - both in the ring and out! Sue B
ReplyDeleteYikes, forgive me for being rude but that outfit looks like a quilt Kim and if you have to pick it up to walk it's maybe the best thing to judge in *ducking*
ReplyDeleteThe Tibetan Mastiff in this group is my dark horse
ReplyDeleteOMG! I just sent a text to a friend sitting ringside and asked what the heck that was the judge was wearing - might be nice for a evening event - but judging working dogs? Hmm . . . Sue B.
ReplyDeleteMy wife commented on the dress as well. lol
ReplyDeleteHaha...my husband commented on that dress too! Wonder if she'll dare to be different!
ReplyDeleteThe Boxer is one of my picks
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Boxer - she is VERY nice! Diego does a phenomenal job! Sue B
ReplyDeleteCarissa does a great job with this dog
ReplyDeleteWell . . . she nailed that one! CJ and Rissa are just an AWESOME pair. Of course, I am very biased! Sue B.
ReplyDeleteLove CJ and Scarlett, the Boxer too!
ReplyDeleteI also like the Dogue de Bordeux
P.S. My husband said to take this judge off of the list of those to show too- All based on the outfit-too funny
Debra
The Mal is very sound and has a nice go around, definitely a possibility given it is her breed. Sue B.
ReplyDeleteBoxer & Doberman were my standouts
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful Kuvasz
ReplyDeleteSo far I agere - I like Shirley's Bullmastiff also. Sue B.
ReplyDeleteThat would be AGREE - good lord typing and watching is tough! And texting also to friends that are either there or home elsewhere! Some sort of spectator commotion during Rissa and CJ's presentation - medics and security removed a mother and child? Hmm . . . thought I heard some differe nt noises! Sue B.
ReplyDeleteI like this Saint, my first show dog was a Saint
ReplyDeleteNice clean go around on the rottie - she was very nice as a package. Sue B
ReplyDeleteWhen she makes her cut, could one of you with access to a TV be so kind as to list them? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThis Siberian has won the breed here three years in a row
ReplyDeleteVery nice Standard Schnauzer
ReplyDeleteAgain, this group has some very nice dogs - the depth again is going to be tough - this Tibetan Mastiff is really AWESOME for its breed - what a greeat dog! SueB
ReplyDeleteThe Tibetan Mastiff is imposing
ReplyDeleteI will try to list those that make the cut - hang in there . . . Sue B
ReplyDeleteThe TM placed at Eukanuba. I think he's nicer than the one who placed here in the group last year
ReplyDeleteBilly, for the record, I also liked the Giant and the Standard schnauzers - here we go! Sue B
ReplyDeleteAkita, Mal, Boxer, Dobe, Kuvasc, PWD, Rottie, Sibe, Tibetan made the cut
ReplyDeleteakita, mal, boxer, dobe, kuvaz, PWC, sibe, TM
ReplyDeleteAkita
ReplyDeleteMal
Boxer
Doberman
ReplyDeleteKuvasc
ReplyDeletePWD
ReplyDeleteRottie
ReplyDeleteSiberian
ReplyDeleteTM
ReplyDeleteWOW - what a nice line up! Here we go . .
ReplyDeleteHere we go
ReplyDelete1. Doberman
ReplyDelete2. Boxer
3. Pwd
4. Mal
Congratulations Carissa and CJ!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLOVED the Tibetan Mastiff....would've placed him.
ReplyDeleteDobe,
ReplyDeleteBoxer,
PWD,
Mal
thats the placements
Dobe, Boxer, PWD and Mal in that order - YES!!!! Sorry, I am thrilled for Rissa and CJ - I have known Rissa since she was a baby! Sue B
ReplyDelete1. Doberman, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton
ReplyDelete2. Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream
3. Portuguese Water Dog, CH Aviator Luck Be A Lady
4. Alaskan Malamute, CH Sno Klassic Play The Game
Mal is a lovely specimen of the breed. BUT it is trimmed to no end and this is a NATURAL breed. Kim has done for this dog before as she should.. this dog has alot of the same lines her dogs do.
ReplyDeleteFirst group that I've totally agreed with judge's picks. And Billy, that tibetan Mastiff is awesome, I'm happy he made the cut!
ReplyDeletePatty H
Just want to thank you so much for live blogging this, Billy. No cable here so your event is making my night! Katharine M.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone think that the Scottie can be beaten in the group?
ReplyDeleteYES! I think the depth in the Terrier group is even more than what we saw in the hound group. I really like the Smooth Fox and the Irish Terrier. Soft spot for the Std Manchester - a long time friend owns him now, and Marcelo is an excellent handler. Just my 2 cents! Sue B
ReplyDeleteLove Lorraines Outfit! Just thought I would add that :) sue B
ReplyDeleteWhat were the placements in the Sporting Group?
ReplyDeleteI am writing from Brazil, and enjoying very much your coverage. I agree with the working judgement and just can't wait for the terriers.
ReplyDeleteSÃlvio
wow almost missed the first dogs, washing dog bowls and scooping food, but has to be done when you have 20 dogs, but I love em! :)
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
Am staff is intense - nice solid bitch. Like side movement more than the down and back.
ReplyDeleteSporting Group - Brittany, IWD, Gordon, Lab - names are further up in this blog - Sue B
ReplyDeleteBrittany, Irish Water Spaniel, Gordon, Lab
ReplyDeleteI really like this colored bull terrier
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the parson, I owned one two years ago but it died at a young age of heart problems, shockingly he went well with the gsds!
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
Nice Colored BT - growing up my best friend had the top colored BT in the country. Sue B
ReplyDeleteThis is a dead ringer for my girl
ReplyDeletethe Cairn
ReplyDeleteNice attitude, beautiful movement - nice Cairn. Sue B
ReplyDeleteLOVE THIS SMOOTH FOX! Ooops, did I yell! :) Sue B
ReplyDeleteDodger looks good
ReplyDeleteDodger always shows well, but I think he's a bit stuffy through the neck and shoulders
ReplyDeletethis is a nice Irish Also! Boy, I am beginning to run out of ribbons again! Sue B
ReplyDeleteVery flashy Irish
ReplyDeleteThe Lakeland went Group Two behind Sadie at Montgomery County, the all Terrier show
ReplyDeleteNice Lakeland - although I was wondering about front movement - he seemed stiff to me! Sue B
ReplyDeletewhy were people laughing at the mini-bull?
ReplyDeleteMarcelo and Cash looked wonderful as always - this is such a tough group. sometimes I think it should be split somehow . . . Sue B
ReplyDeleteVery sturdy, nicely coated Norwich - I liked him! Sue B.
ReplyDeleteThey showed that mini bull being silly & flipping around at the end of his go round. I'm guessing that's what they were laughing at..
ReplyDeleteEvidently the mini bull was playing with his handler after the go around - had the crowd laughing and applauding - being a typical clown! Sue B (friend is sitting ringside)
ReplyDeleteGabriel is pulling out all the stops
ReplyDeleteLarry is the 2009 handler of the year
ReplyDeletecute parson, I miss mine so much, I'm not ready to get another one but someday I will since they are a great breed.
ReplyDelete--gsdgirl
Thanks! I stepped away from the TV and I heard the crowd laughing....
ReplyDeleteThis Wheaten is a repeat winner, a great dog
ReplyDeleteWelsh was really nicely coated and colored. Wish it had moved nicer! Sue B
ReplyDeleteWell - here we go! I am not even going to touch this one, I think I will just wait it out - although I would really like to see Dodger take the group! Sue B
ReplyDeleteI say scottie, smooth fox, norwich, & colored bull
ReplyDeleteOK - you got me - I say smooth, scottie, colored, norwich
ReplyDeletesmooth fox
ReplyDeleteairedale
ReplyDeleteairdale, border, smooth, asutralian, westie , sealham made the cut
ReplyDeleteborder
ReplyDeletenorwich
ReplyDeletescottie, smooth fox, norwich, who was four?
ReplyDeleteairedale
ReplyDeleteSo - here we go - What a line up! The quality is phenomenal, the dogs are gorgeous, and it will be a real battle to the end! Here we Go!
ReplyDeleteThanks Billy for having this live - it has been fun! Sue Bani - Sureshot Dobes, PA
1. Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot
ReplyDelete2. Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice
3. Norwich Terrier, CH Skyscots Poker Chip
4. Airedale Terrier, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke
The colored bull is from out here and I have never got it's winning...the standard says "Behind the shoulders there should be no slackness or dip at the withers." and that dog clearly has a huge dip in it's back...
ReplyDeletewondering if people heard the norwich should be squarer and more up on leg than the norfolk????
ReplyDeleteBIS line up is
ReplyDeleteBrittany, CH Willowick Talltean
Whippet, CH Starline Chanel
Doberman, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton
Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot
Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk
French Bulldog, CH Robobull Fabelhaft Im On Fire
Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams
Anyone think Sadie may lose?
ReplyDeleteI have watched Westminster for many years. but this year for the first time I have become a participant in AKC conformation showing with my Scottish Deerhound bitch. Everyone's comments last night and tonight have been very interesting - I have enjoyed them and learned a lot - thanks to Billy and everyone!
ReplyDeleteSadie is so on!
ReplyDeleteI think it will come down to Sadie and CJ - #1 and #2 and of course, I am partial. but the Whippet is gorgeous also! What a line up! Sue B
ReplyDeleteCarissa & CJ were pretty flawless
ReplyDeleteDid anyone else hear that - what is going on in the crowd? Booing - not at all necessary? Sue B
ReplyDeleteso I guess the booing had something to do with PETA people
ReplyDelete2 women running into the ring with signs saying MUTTS RULE - from a friend that is ringside. Sue B
ReplyDeleteIs it just me or was there something going on with the Puli's movement?
ReplyDeletesomeone went out with a sign that says Mutts Rule on it I guess and then another one too
ReplyDeleteWalker has never looked better
ReplyDeleteI'm going with Sadie. Got to. Can't lose my Terrier card
ReplyDeletePuli had movement issues , do not know what is happening there. CJ looked awesome!
ReplyDeleteThanks Billy - this was great - here we go! Sue B
ReplyDeleteGot to love it!
ReplyDeleteSadie wins again - that breeder should be very proud! As should all of the other BIS competitors - what a GORGEOUS line up! Sue B
ReplyDeleteI just love Sadie and am pulling for her. The song from Funny Girl runs through my head. But Walker is so gorgeous too... Katharine
ReplyDeleteThat was tense. I need a cocktail. lol
ReplyDeleteThank you all for joining my Garden Party. You guys always teach me something
ReplyDeleteBilly - you are the best. Thanks for doing this, I think it was wonderful to talk to everyone during the show. Sadie is gorgeous but CJ's intensity is beyond belief. I will never forget those eyes and the intensity and the love she showed to Rissa. What a great line up of dogs - thanks again, until the next time . . . Sue B - Sureshot Dobes, PA
ReplyDeleteBilly, thank you thank you thank you--I learn so much from you and those who comment here. Katharine M.
ReplyDeleteHard to read any of the negative comments on any of the dogs from people who are "Annonymous". I have much more respect for the people who sign their statements. This show was full of great dogs and only people with sour grapes would comment on them poorly without owning their statements. This site is one of the best new things that has happened to the sport. Too bad some people don't have better self control and use it in a non-positive manner. Congratulations not only to all the winners but to all that participated in making it a spectacular event.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work on this article. It should help a lot of new gardeners.
