With all the excitement surrounding our first top ten confrontation, it might have been easy to miss one of the most significant competitions at this past week’s Portland shows, the inaugural Eukanuba Breeder’s Stakes. The Breeder Stakes showcases the best breeder/owner/handlers have to offer. Entries were three dogs from at least two litters shown by the breeders.
59 breeders took up this initial challenge and it was Michelle Santana of Foxfire Dobermans taking home the first title, a check for $500, and a trip to the 2010 Eukanuba National Championship to compete for the National Breeder’s Stake’s title. Michelle’s trio of Dobermans were CH Foxfires All Star, Dog born 3/18/06, CH Foxfire’s The Best Damn Thing Of Icon Bitch born 4/4/08, and CH Foxfire’s Best to Come Along Bitch born 4/3/08.
Reserve winner was the standard for every breeder/owner/handler Patricia Craig Trotter of Vin-Melca Norwegian Elkhounds. Pat’s terrific tthreesome were CH Vin-Melca’s Voyager Dog born 6/1/05, CH Vin-Melca’s The Norseman Dog born 9/26/07, and Vin-Melca’s Northern Dancer Dog birthdate unknown.
We will follow the coming competitions with great interest.
