THREE RIVERS KC OF MO DAY TWO

CH Slapestone’s Sea Breeze

Another great weekend at Purina Farms is in the record books.   Chris Walkowitz' super seven were the Welsh Springer Spaniel, CH Slapestone’s Sea Breeze, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Black Russian Terrier, GCH CH Zilya's Chicago Blues Fusion At Runes CD, the Border Terrier, GCH CH Meadowlake Simply Sinful, the Long Coat Chihuahua, CH Ouachitah Touch The Gold, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dacun Kaylen's He's A Heartbreaker, and the Polish Lowland Sheepdog, GCH CH Swan Crest Windy City Robert Henry.

His Best was the Welsh Springer, a total mystery dog to us.  This is like Cinderella at the Ball and we are left without so much as a glass slipper.  Some of you out there fill us in.

Update: Seven year old "Farina" is an English import, bred by Thelma Ritchie.   She finished her AKC Championship shortly after coming to the US and has only been shown limitedly since.  She was imported to the US by Melissa Chonos, and is currently owned  by Meghen Bassel and Susan Riese  of Statesmen Welsh Springer Spaniels.  Our congratulations to them all on Farina’s first AKC BIS.

  1. Well doing a search I couldn't find much either, except a puppy of hers (so it's a bitch at least LOL) that was shown this past August in Canada

  3. Ch. Slapestone's Sea Breeze aka "Farina" was imported by myself (Melissa Chonos) from the UK. She quickly finished her championship with BOB over specials and a group placement as well. I put a group one on her when I lightly specialed her. Statesmen Welsh absolutely loved her in the US and I agreed to sell her to them. This breed needs help in this country and IMO "Farina" is the best Welsh in this country, which is why I imported her. Meghan could use her in her breeding program and promote the breed/improve the breed with "Farina". "Farina" has proven to be worth her weight in gold producing some excellent Welsh Springers in the US. I'm proud to be a part of her life and I am glad she won a Best in Show. This dog certainly deserved more than one, however at least she has the one from today. We are all proud of her!

  5. Farina is Sired by the great BR SH CH Ferndel Maverick (who won the Gun Dog group at Crufts) and out of one of the extremely few FULL BR champions, BR CH Steelriver Rysa. Her grand dam is the all time top producer in the UK, BR SH Ferndel Cecilia.

We purchased Farina as a young bitch. Our hope was to selectively breed her. She has had 11 puppies. Her puppies have gone on to win WD at American Spaniel Club three times as well as having various wins at National Specialties. As time for breeding ceased, we made plans to debut her in the veteran class at the Supported Entry at Purina Farms. As with most WSS, she only got better with age and thoroughly enjoyed being back in the ring.

Chris Walkowitz was actually the Best in Show judge. Many thanks to her for following her own path and recognizing our girl. The thrill of the win will echo in my heart forever. Most of the WSS exhibitors stayed to cheer us on in the group, that was judged by Col Weiss. Many thanks to him for the BOB and G1.
