We attended  our very first AKC dog show in 1968, here In Memphis TN.  That show was won by the glamorous couple of  the Afghan Hound, CH Dahnwood Gabriel, and handler Michele Billings.  Gabe was the 1968 Hound Group winner of Dogs In Review’s Show Dog of the Year award. We have been admirers of the Afghan Hound (and Michele Billings) ever since.

The Afghan Hound Club of America descended upon Wilmington OH this week for their Diamond Jubilee, their 75th annual National Specialty.  It was the inaugural event at the new 80,000 sq ft Eukanuba Hall at Roberts Centre, a venue especially designed for dog & cat shows & events.  Kent Delaney had the difficult task of choosing the Best of 225 spectacular examples of the “King of Dogs”.  His BISS was GCH CH Thaon’s Mowgli.  Other major awards included BOS, GCH CH Stormhill's Sweet Dream of Raffica, WB/BOW, Evensong's Avenue Q, and WD, Jolie Paparazzi.

Mowgli is AKC’s Number One Afghan Hound all systems with six all breed BIS and 17 Hound Groups to his credit. Our congratulations to breeders/owners Jay T Hafford & James Blanchard and owners Debbie Rogers & Ann Sterner.

  1. The show site in Wilmington is the Roberts Centre and it is beautiful! Hope more clubs will begin using it for their shows.
