SAN MATEO DAY ONE

GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy

Many of the nation’s airports have been closed due to a holiday week blizzard.  One that is operating is the San Francisco International Airport (SFO), which is actually south of the fabled City by the Bay.  Just a few minutes south of SFO is the town of San Mateo, site of the only AKC dog shows remaining this year.  The four day set often draws dogs from all over the US.  This year the quartet of shows will determine who is the Number One Dog All Breeds for 2010.

The Oakland Kennel Club opened the Final Four and had Jeffrey Pepper in their final ring with the German Shorthaired  Pointer, GCH CH Robin Crest Great Expectations, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Vin-Melca’s Voyager, the Mastiff, CH Lexington Divine’s Put Me In, Coach, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH J’Cobe Vigilante Justice, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Bulldog, GCH CH Globe And Anchor Sgt Iron Mike, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Avalon Frontier Sleepnlady Webber,

Round One went to the nation’s Number Two Dog all Breeds, the Peke, Malachy.  We don’t have exact numbers yet, but we do know that the win was not enough to take over the Number One position.  However, this is the first of four.  There are three days of excitement yet to go.

  6. Billy,

Thank You for all the time you have put into this Blog.

  7. I heard according to dog news that Malachy is ahead by 1100 going into this weekend and just needs to win 2x to claim number 1

  8. Does Dog News use different shows than akc to determine ranking?

  9. Correction: Dog Show Poop has attempted to counter this insanity by using only the top 50 shows/dog. Worthy goal, but it's not working in practice. Fifty shows a year is still a very hefty number, and Billy's rankings are virtually the same as all the conventional systems.

  13. Sorry guys. I guess I disagree with these posts. My fingers are crossed for Dodger - He's been my #1 all year, and with more than 100 BIS to his name . . . . . I guess lots of judges agree with me! Good luck to them this week.

  14. David won 695 and amy got 56

It would be hard for me to believe that Billy is off by that much. Dog show news must be using a different system.

    Good for Adam and Emily!

  15. I wish the best of luck to Malachy . How amazing it is that he's contending
For #1 since he started the year from the classes!
A true beautiful dog . Great job David with that showy Peke!

  16. Dodger and Malachy were not EVEN in numbers going in...Billy is correct..695 is not enough for Malachy to have gotten to #1. They differed somewhere around 1700 going into this weekend. Check the entries on infodog...even if he won today, I'm not sure he'd get #1 today...if every one of the dogs entered today, showed up (1206) then he might get to #1....THAT IS IF HE WINS. :) Do the math. Go Dodger!

These have been great dogshow memories. They say there's no such thing as the perfect dog. I don't think "they" have seen Malachy.

  36. Does anyone know if Malachy is the only dog to have won 3 BIS in a row to earn their AKC championship? Also..what is the record of the most BIS in a row for any dog?

    ReplyDelete
  37. I‘m pretty certain that there have been other dogs to go three BIS to finish a championship, though no one has done it recently. As far as the number of BIS in a row, I’m not sure what the record is but I do know that the Pointer, CH Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry, put together ten in a row in January of 2009.
