SAN MATEO DAY THREE

The Kennel Club of Salinas is the third of our Final Four shows of the year as we hurtle toward a decision on who will be 2010’s Top Dog.  Today’s BIS was called by Carl Gomes who had his pick of the Sussex Spaniel, GCH CH Seamist On A Windward Tack RN, yesterday’s BIS, the Whippet, GCH CH Starline’s Chanel, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Aviators Luck Be A Lady, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Slyfox Sneaks A Peek, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Bulldog, GCH CH Bodhi's Light, Life, And Love, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Avalon Frontier Sleepnlady Webber.

He chose the Whippet, Chanel.  Cha Cha and handler Lori Wilson have repeatedly shown they can can hang with the big boys, showing in every venue in the US and winning several of the marquee events in the US.  Chanel now makes tomorrow’s San Mateo Kennel Club show a must see for us all.

  7. I was told that the Peke had to win today and tomorrow to leap past the SMOOTH. If this is so, The SMOOTH remains the number one dog all systems
Congratulations to all and happy new year.

  8. Even as a Malachy Fan I congratulate Channel ,!
    Love Dog Shows.
One more before is all over for 2010.

  9. If the Peke, Malachy, wins BIS tomorrow he will be the Number One Dog All Breeds for 2010.

  10. It is my understanding that the Peke is 700 behind the Smooth, so a BIS tomorrow could do it.

  11. Dodger should be #1 all breeds - he is stunning! What a team. No comparison!

  12. Actually - the top 10 dogs have more quality this year than in many years. Any one of them could be #1 and be a creditable representative of what America produces in the way of quality canines.
To be #2 behind Dodger or Malachy would be no shame and really, in a years' time, will any of it matter?
    Happy New Year to all!

  13. Again, this is a post about the whippet going best in show, also a GREAT team and a top dog in the country too. Congratulations to Chanel, Lori, and the Lawrences!

  14. Congrats to Chanel!

Any reason why Dodger was absent yesterday????

  15. I love the post @ 12:53 am. ALL the top specials are fabulous, it takes more than a stunning dog. One needs perseverance, skill, money and yes, LUCK to come out on top of the statistics. And the statistics are just numbers. So c'mon, all you anonymous boosters for "Team This" vs. "Team That," lighten up! Enjoy the ride!!
And to keep things in perspective, we might try thinking about the Dan Buchwald tragedy in New Jersey this week.

  17. Havent heard about Dan Buchwald. What happened?

  18. With absentees running close to or over 30% even if the Peke goes best the numbers needed to overcome the Smooth Fox Terriers lead just aren't there...

  19. Yes they are!!!! They r only like 500 apart!!!

  20. Dan Buchwald's house burned to the ground several days ago. It was a total loss. All the dogs inside, including his beloved "Gracie," the top-winning SFT bitch of all time, were killed. I've heard that he suffered some burns, but I'm not sure about that.

  21. PS Gracie was bred by Amy Rutherford, so it's a loss for her, too.

  22. That is tragic news. It puts things in perspective, doesn't it?

  23. Good luck to all the dogs today!

I found this website on facebook, it tells the story of what happened to Dan Buchwald and tells us how we can donate to help him... Dan is such a nice man, I feel very sorry for him.

Oh, golly. I hadn't heard the news about Dan. Something that horrific does
put our dogs and the dog game in perspective. I am so sorry to hear this and when anyone knows if Dan was injured, please share.
I also want to say that yes, I am a peke breeder and am cheering on Malachy.. But I agree with the individual that mentioned, a year from now
we will be saying, "Which one did come out on top?". I do think we
have to be proud of the top ten dogs. I have known Lori forever and she and Cha Cha took my breath away watching her win the group at the garden.
We will be seeing shortly who does come out on top.......
