NEW YEAR'S EVE IN SAN MATEO

As you may know by now there are no shows this coming weekend, but we do have four pivotal shows scheduled for the last week of the year.  San Mateo CA just south of San Francisco will be the site for the Oakland Kennel Club, the Santa Cruz Kennel Club,  the Kennel Club Of Salinas, & San Mateo Kennel Club’s equivalent of the Iowa Caucuses, four shows that have come to represent the last chance to grab an advantage in the national rankings.  The fun begins on Tuesday, the 28th and continues through New Year’s Eve.

Here’s our chart to let you know where everyone stands going into the Holidays.  You will note that the excitement isn’t just about who’s going to be Number One.  The bottom six dogs are all racing for a higher finish.   We will be here to pop the bubbly and tell you who finishes the year as Number One Dog All Breeds.

  1. Let's try to keep the focus on how wonderful ALL the top 10 or 20 or 30 dogs are! There's been some nasty stuff posted lately. The dogs themselves are fabulous, and are blissfully unaware of their position in the mythical national rankings.

  4. How many days does Amy need to win to clinch number 1? or a wild card wins x many days to keep the rankings the way they are?

  5. Wild card...interesting factor. How about someone get their first BIS on the last circuit of the year.

  6. Can't wait to see how the year plays out....it definitely has been exciting. Both teams deserve the win. I am routing from team dodger, but either way it plays out we all know that all the top dogs are deserving.

  8. Having more dog shows at this time of year is HORRIBLE. I understand that people will be forced to go after so much money has been spent, but it is wrong and is one more reason the top dog rankings are out of control. It comes down to who goes to the most shows. There must be a way to make it about the dogs. I cant imagine anyone would want to spend their New Years at a dog show.

  9. SPENDING NEW YEAR'S DAY AT A DOG SHOW SEEMS LIKE AN OKAY THING TO DO; SOME GO TO MOVIES, SOME GO SKIING AND SOME GO TO DOG SHOWS.

  11. Well what about the all the shows over Thanksgiving? And Easter? And all the other Holidays we celebrate? Why should the New Years shows be any different? And it really isn't the fault of the clubs, being that they were bumped off their normal weekend when AKC & Euk got together to put on their shows.

I, personally, can't wait to see who will fly in and how these last crucial days will unfold. It is all very exciting if you ask me!

It's Christmas day right now, and I am working in IRAQ. I would give anything to spen my Christmas and/or New Years at a dog show as opposed to being here. I strongly urge you to reconsider your stance and be happy for those who get to do what they love on the day of their choice.

Thank you for your service. After reading your note, you have put all of our/my petty comments into perspective.
Merry Christmas, and a safe and Happy New Year.

  16. For all of our friends in Northern California...We love our Holiday Shows in San Francisco! What better way to celebrate than to spend the week between Christmas & New Years than with our good friends?
We wouldn't miss it for the world!
The drama of the big winners flying in to compete makes it that much more exciting!
Happy New Year to all of our Dog Show friends!
    See you in San Mateo!

  18. The person above said it best - it is all about seeing good friends and fine dogs! Over the years I have met many people who are dear to me now, traveled to places all over the US and the world, and had the honor of seeing, judging and even breeding many fantastic dogs in my own breed and others. None of which would have happened without the incentive of dog shows to attend!

I wish that I could be there, and to SPC Kelli Johnson in Iraq, I wish you could be there as well! Thank you for what you are doing for us, enduring the worst conditions in the world! Be safe and well and I hope to see you at the shows someday!

  20. I will be at the shows and definitely will be watching through all of the groups to BIS. It's so exciting the season will culminate in my area. On a personal note, my goal will be for my boy, in his first year as a champion (now grand champion), to finish #10 in his breed. Then I'll enjoy a wonderful New Year's Eve party. Good luck to all!

  21. In Perspective , statistics are helpful and sometimes they bring
pride . But in reality is the great performances even in the small
venues where a certain dog showcases the true spirit of it's breed. Putting a phenomenal performance, framed with type and quality
Sometimes the points do not reflect that. In the other hand , there's the
Great shows not necesarlly big ,those with the outstanding dogs that makes the competition even harder specially when judged by a really good panel
To sort out the best and the great.
One of those wins should mean more than all the points in the world. Or any standings based on repetition . By this I don't take anything away from anybody
In fact I admire the competitors. I just try to keep things in perspective .

  22. Good luck to all Competitors. Happy news years to all!! Wish I could be there to see how it turns out. Congratualtions to Carissa on the birth of her son!!! To SPC Kelli Johnson thank you for your service and keeping us safe.

  23. Waiting for news from Day One. It is still exciting, and frankly the week between Christmas and New Years can be pretty anti-climatic and boring.
Go David and Malachy! You have my support!
