While last year’s Hound Group was every bit as competitive
as the Sporting Group, we were even more excited to see two of AKC’s most
threatened breeds vying for Number One Hound.
The Harrier and American Foxhound rank 171 and 172 in popularity among
the AKC’s 175 recognized breeds. Last
year the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, and the Harrier, GCH
CH Downhome Hitech Innovator, slugged it out for Number One Hound with the
Foxhound, Jewel, defeating more dogs while collecting 34 BIS and 88 Hound
Groups, and the Harrier, Chet, collecting more Hound Groups (106), 27 of which
led to a big rosette.
We also like the regal Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek’s Kiss
and Tell, 2012’s Number Four Hound.
Kissy has been the country’s Number One Bloodhound for the last two
years, finishing 2012 with seven BIS and 35 Hound Groups.
We have seen several beautiful Salukis this past year. The one that ledd the pack was GCH CH
Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles, 2012’s Number Five Hound. Bubbles had an impressive nine BIS and 53
Group Ones last year. So far this year
she has one BIS and an enviable nine Group Ones.
