CRUFTS BEST IN SHOW!

SH CH Vbos The Kentuckian

The Italian judge, Dr Paolo Dondina, had the monumental task of judging Best In Show. at today's 2011 Crufts final.  Judge Dondina has had a busy year, judging BIS at last month’s Westminster Kennel Club show.  From 21,500 entries, seven survived to greet Dr Dondina, the Flatcoated Retriever, SH CH Vbos The Kentuckian, the he Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, Soletrader Peek A Boo, the German Shepherd Dog, CH Elmo Vom Hunhnegrab, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Travella Star Lord, the Bichon Frise, CH Pampolona Bring Me Sunshine, the Standard Poodle, CH Vicmars Rave on JW, and the Boxer, CH/IR CH Winuwuk Lust At First Sight.

The seven finalists provided a wonderful full spectrum of the British dog game from the veteran nine year old Flatcoat, Jet, to the 17 month old PBGV, Jilly, who is just starting her show career, matching the more experienced dogs step for step.  Dr Dondina’s best in Show at the 120th Crufts was the Flatcoated Retriever, Jet.  Reserve went to the only bitch in the final line up and the youngest, the PBGV, Jilly.

Jet is one of the winningest dogs in the Kennel Club’s history.  Jet was shown to the win by his breeder/owner James Irvine.  Our congratulations to him and all the winners.

  1. Fantastic! I don't know who shows or owns him, but his breeder must be thrilled. Quality certainly endures.

  2. In my excitment, I didn't notice the breeder/owner was listed. I imagine the champers will be flowing tonight!

  3. The Flat-Coat and the PBGV were probably my two favorites in the BIS line-up. Glad to see judge Dondina agrees! However, it would have been impossible to pick a loser--all seven of them are wonderful representatives of their breed.

  4. Breeder/owner/ handler AND a veteran! And a Flattie, the world's happiest dog. Perfect!

  5. The flat-coat is an extraordinary representative of the breed...type unseen here in the states. He has a beautiful one-piece head, dark almond eye, bone!bone!bone!, topline, shoulders, a FRONT!, and doesn't put a foot down wrong on the go. And nine years old to boot...amazing for a breed with an average life-span of 7 1/2-8 years of age. Thrilled Dr. Dondina recognized Jet amongst a line-up of lovely dogs. You couldn't miss the ever-wagging tail, though.
