THE WEEKEND IS HERE!
While we were scrambling for the missing results for this past week, the new week crept up on us. Our first show this week is the Naugatuck Valley Kennel Club ‘s first of two today kicking off a five day stop in West Springfield MA. The NVKC will be followed by shows hosted by the Kenilworth Kennel Club Of Connecticut, the Farmington Valley Kennel Club, & the Holyoke Kennel Club.
Other major clusters this weekend are the four shows in West Friendship MD of the Catoctin Kennel Club, the Northeastern Maryland Kennel Club, the Upper Marlboro Kennel Club, & the National Capital Kennel Club. the three shows in Dallas TX from the Greater Collin Kennel Club, the Texas Kennel Club, & the Trinity Valley Kennel Club, and the three shows in Ventura CA by the Channel City Kennel Club, the Santa Maria Kennel Club, & the Ventura County Dog Fanciers Association. There are also three shows in Sedalia MO courtesy of the Jefferson City Missouri Kennel Club & the Sedalia Kennel Club and , if you’re up for some adventure, three in Soldotna AK with the Kenai Kennel Club.
Our remaining shows are of the two day, Saturday/Sunday variety. Next we head out west to Loveland CO for a report on the Buckhorn Valley Kennel Club‘s two shows. Being the only AKC show for 750 miles has its advantages as the BVKC drem some of the largest entries of the weekend. On Saturday, with over 1400 dogs entered, Leah Ryan had a final full of talent, the German Shorthaired Pointer, CH Autmn’s Staqrdust And Roses, the Whippet, CH Stafline’s Chanel, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Spyglass’s Legend Of Bahia, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Lindenka Delta, the Maltese, CH Rhapsody’s Regarding Henry, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Vaje’s Miss Jayne Hathaway, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Bugaboo’s Georgie Girl. His BIS was the Shar-Pei, her second this year.

Sunday, the judge’s book passed to Michael Chaloux. The Whippet, the Maltese, & the OES, all returned for a second try. Making their first final of the weekend were the ASCOB Cocker Spaniel, CH Mardi Gras Strut the Stage, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Adair’N’Hug’s Wonderful Life, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Dalriad MKG High Voltage, and the French Bulldog, CH Floresta Ramnes Riddle Me This RN. He chose the OES, Georgie as his Best. Georgie and handler Colton Johnson have stayed mostly close to their Colorado home this year, but have managed to stay in the Top Fifteen Dogs All Breeds most of the year.

Down in the Deep South, we had four shows this week in Hattiesburg MS. We told you all about the first show of the weekend with Lee Canalizo calling the final. She had her pick of the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Touchstone's O Solo Mio, the Whippet, CH Karasar's Par Excellence, the Boxer, CH Carillon's MVP, the Colored Bull Terrier, Glentom's You Were Mint For Me, the Chinese Crested, CH Vanitonia Devil Wears Prada, Thursday’s BIS winner, the Keeshond, CH Trumpet's Shoot To Thrill, and the German Shepherd Dog, Zyut's Java Of Hicliff. Her Best was the Cocker, Solo. Solo is new to us and we hope to bring you more on this dog.
Saturday, it was the GHKC’s turn to host again and they asked Don Rodgers to look over the final seven. He saw the above named Cocker, Whippet, Boxer, & Keeshond, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Foxxsake American Spirit, the Affenpinscher, CH Ferlin’s Its All About Me, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH To-Jo Tune In Theodore Lanward. He chose as his BIS, the Whippet, Laynee. It’s the first BIS this year for Laynee and breeder/owner/handler Kerrie Kupper. Congrats all around.
Sunday the MMKC closed the set with Dr Donald Gill doing the last final. Elvis and breeder/owner/handler Jere Marder swept both of the Kettle Moraine Kennel Club‘s two shows this weekend. On Saturday Dorothy Christiansen final seven included Elvis, the Weimarner, CH Bowbent Carousels Perfect World, the Otterhound, CH Adeline’s Sticky Wicket, the Samoyed, CH Polar Mist War Amiral, the Norwich Terrier, CH Abbedale Take Two At Taliesin, the Pug, CH Kenshei And That’s The Way It Is, and the Tibetan Terrier, CH Rilee’s Stellar Performance, and the Old English Sheepdog, Sunday, Elvis and Sally Baugniet were joined by the same Norwich, Pug, & Tibetan Spaniel, the Flat Coat Retriever, CH Torwood Ace Dresser, the Basset Hound, CHC Topsfield-Sanchu American Express, and the Bullmastiff, CH Wardens Dancing In the Barz. She had a powerhouse final with the Irish Setter, CH Shadagee Caught Red Handed, the Saluki, CH Ahmadi Ti Sir With Luv, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Kerry Blue Terrier, CH Heritage Billy Flynn, the Shih Tzu, CH Hallmark Jolei Austin Powers, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Tibroke’s Kissed By A Star, and the Briard Déjà Vu All Over Again. Best went to the country;s Number Three Dog All Breeds, the Boxer Scarlet. BIS #19 keeps Scarlett and handler Diego Fernando Garcia hot on the heels of the top two.

As a Cairn Terrier owner, we are sympathetic to those breeds that seem to never make it home with a red, white & blue rosette. Today one of those breeds went home with a red, white & blue souvenir of the holiday weekend in Bel Alton MD. The Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Bo-Bett’s Open Button, was Christopher Tilghman Neale’s BIS choice at today’s Rock Creek Kennel Club show. Opie’s fellow finalists were the Irish Setter, CH Marlyn All About Magic, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Alisaton The Flight Of The Phoenix, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Rassle Dazzle, and the Border Collie, CH Bon-Clyde’s Take One. It was Opie’s first all breed BIS and the first by an IG since 2008. Congratulations to breeder/owner Carol A Harris and handler Justin Smithey.

There’s just something about great competitors that sets them apart, like winning big when the chips are down. Here in the last couple of weeks, our top five dogs have been posting multiple BIS all over the country. Saturday, we thought we might have a new Number One this week.
However the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice once again answered the challenge, closing the big weekend in Oklahoma City with the must do Best In Show at the day two show of the Oklahona City Kennel Club. Joining Dodger in Lorraine Boutwell’s final were a German Shorthaired Pointer to be named later, the Pharaoh Hound, CH Northgate’s As You Like It, the Boxer, CH Winfall's I Dream of Style , the Pekingese, CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Spitfire, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Kridler’s Nutmeg V Signature.
The four days in Oklahoma City turned out to be one of the premier stops this year. For those of us who didn’t get to see it live, we will get a chance to see Saturday’s show televised soon. Will keep you informed on the schedule.

The Standard Poodle, CH Brighton Lakeridge Encore, did the BACK2BACK BIS thing in Redmond OR, taking the day two show of the Mt Bachelor Kennel Club. Carl Liepmann had the option of choosing the Greyhound, CH Helio Foxglove at Heart, the Siberian Husky, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Pine River's Show Me the Money, the Havanese, CH Bellatak McDreamy, or the Belgian Tervuran, CH Sky Acres Spy Plane. We chose Encore as a DOG2WATCH back in April after she won the Poodle Club of America’s National Specialty from the classes. You can bet we will be looking for her when she ventures this way again.

Her seven were a Golden Retriever from the Nine to Twelve Month Old Puppy Dog class, Flaxen Fields Faraway Four Under Par, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Soletrader’s Donald Duck, the Akita, CH Mojo’s Rock’N Your World, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Warfox High Mtn Rocky Mountain High, the Pug, CH Winsome’s Trouble At Coral Bay, the Standard Poodle, CH Pennndragon Masanillo, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Terra’s Annie Z Get Your Gun. Best went to the PBGV, Donald. It’s the second for Donald in the last two weeks.

She had her pick of the the Gordon Setter, CH Firethorn & Sandpiper Easy On The Eyes, the 15“ Beagle, CH Torquay Midnight Confession, the Giant Schnauzaer, CH Skansen‘s Sir Augsut Brigs, the Border Terrier, Ch Tyrolian Eight Belles Meadowlake, the Blenheim & Prince Charles English Toy Spaniel, CH Royalist Ready To Reign, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Chaoyang’s Take It To The Limit, and the Australian Shepherd, Pine Tree Farms Red Barron. She chose the Toy Spaniel, Dash, as her BIS. It was the second this year for Dash and handler Laura King.

The Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, started his week in Bel Alton MD with a BIS at the Hounds only Potomac Hound Club show on Thursday. He followed that with Group Ones at the Southern Maryland Kennel Club’s two shows on Friday and Saturday. Today Dylan took home the top prize at the Rock Creek Kennel Club show. His worthy opponents in Anne Hearn’s ring were the Vizsla, CH Artisan Grouse Point Pink Panther JH, the great Pyrenees, CH Rivergrove’s Trump This, the Miniature Schnauzer, CH Earthsong Remedy For The Blues, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Riverside In The Dark Zone. That’s eight all breed BIS for Dylan and handler Marcelo Veras this year as the now are close to a top 15 ranking. That's what we call persistence.

Her Best was the Standard Poodle, Encore. The winner of the Poodle Club of America’s Nation Specialty took the month of June off, but she and handler Tim Brazier are back, picking up their seventh all breed BIS.

The Oklahoma City Kennel Club took over in that city today and Michelle Billings greeted some of the best in dogdom, the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction the Pharaoh Hound, CH Northgate’s As You Like It, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Steinway’s Paris Is Burning, the Border Terrier, CH Devon Lady Semper Fi, the Pekingese, CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the German Shepherd Dog, Ch Kridler’s Nutmeg V Signature. She chose the Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Pekingese, Malachy, as her best. Was it good enough to move Malachy into the Number One Spot? We will have to wait until the weekends results to know.

Lawrence Stanbridge lined up the Vizsla, CHC Red Oak’s Fire When Ready, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Karhiba’s ‘N Adili’s Winning Hand, the Giant Schnauzer, CH Harmonyhill’s Two Thumbs Up OA, the American Staffordshire Terrier, CH Wonderlands Heavily Armed Agitator, the Pug, CH Dillpepah's Magic Moment, the ten month old Standard Poodle from the Puppy Class, Hillwood Ale Kai Walking On Air, and the Shetland Sheepdog, CH Mistybrook Milagros GQ. It was the first BIS for the two year old AmStaff. Congratulations to breeders Sharon Moya & Kellee Smith and owner Amanda Alexander.

Her special seven were the Gordon Setter, CH Firethorn & Sandpiper Easy On The Eyes, the Smooth Dachshund, CH Brownwood Legacy V Laddland SS (an unfortunate suffix for a German breed), the Rottweiler, CH Cammcastle’s Friar Tuck, the Standard Manchester Terrier, CH Saint Lazar’s Ring Of Fire, the Pug, CH Riversong’s Broadway Joe, the Standard Poodle, CH Jaset’s Satisfaction, and the Belgian Tevuren, Blackwater Avant Le Peloton. Her BIS was the nation’s Number One Rottweiler, Tux. That’s seven this year for Tux and handler Holley Eldred.

FIRST FINAL IN FERNDALE

The Lost Coast Kennel Of California opened its three day set in the very northern California town of Ferndale. Showing up for Pete Dawkins’ final were the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, CH Flatbrook Ace’s I’m So Vain, thePetit Basset Griffon vendeen, CH Soeltrader Donald Duck, the Portuguese Water Dog, CH Aviators Luck Be A Lady, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Char Dar’s Merry Manhattan, the Pekingese, CH Dunkirk Center Stage, the Standard Poodle, CH Penndragon Masaniello, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Melody’s Heart Beat Of America. The opening final would go to the big white Poodle, Micah. Log that as number two in 2010 for Micah and handler Kim Russel.

The Fireworks continued today in Oklahoma City at the day two show of the Mid-Del-Tinker Kennel Club. Douglas Winsor’s final consisted of the the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Pharaoh Hound, CH Northgate‘s As You Like It, the Boxer, CH Winfall I Dream Of Style, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J‘Cobe vigilante Justice, the Pekingese, CH PalaceGarden Malachy, th Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Clemwood's Nobel Laureate. It was the Swedish import, the Pharaoh Hound, Qing, picking up his third AKC BIS. We think this one likes his new home.

Rita Holloway had a seven star line up in her final at today’s Southern Maryland Kennel Club show in Bel Alton MD. They were the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Star K’ Mile Hi Valentine, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Great Pyrenees, CH Rivergrove’s Trump This, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Briard, CH Ne Orageux’s Al Capone. BIS was the Poodle, Walker. Walker and handler Kaz Hosaka now have 12 BIS this year.

The Hockamock Kennel Club hosted day two in Wrentham MA with Roberto Velez-Pico in the final ring with the rish Setter, CH Greengates The Boss At Beaubriar, the Pharaoh Hound, DC Hallam ‘s Busiris RA Qena MC LCX, the Akita, GCH CH Nakodo’s Reign Of Glory, a Miniature Schnauzer from the classes, Luckyhill Maxxum Case, the Affenpinscher CH Banana Joe V TaniKazari, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Firetown’s Out Of The Blue, the German Shepherd Dog, CH Laxfield’s Tony Soprano. His Best was the Akita, Echo. It’s the fourth BIS this year for Echo and Paul Lévesque, all coming since the end of May, and that’s good enough to say Echo is a DOG2WATCH.

Deep down in Dixie Paula Hartinger called the first final yesterday for the Greater Hattiesburg (MS) Kennel Club. She had her choice of the Black cocker Spaniel, Touchstone's O Solo Mio, the Whippet, CH Karasar's Par Excellence, the Newfoundland, CH Raincoast Partner Of Dreams, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Bluenote's Sweet On Carillon, the Papillon, CH Alfa's Forevr Rebel Spirit, the Keeshond, CH Trumpet's Shoot To Thrill, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, CH Legacy Legend's Run For The Triple Crown. Day one went to the Keeshond, Hunter. It’s the first this year for Hunter. Congratulations to breeder/owner Beth Blankenship and owner Jane Turnage.

Day one saw Elizabeth Muthard in the final ring at today’s Mid-Del-Tinker Kennel Club with the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Casablanca’s Thrilling Seduction, the Whippet, CH Sporting Field’s Bahama Sands, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Steinway’s Paris Is Burning, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, the Pekingese, CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Chaoyang Chick Magnet at Asia, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Kridler’s Nutmeg V Signature. Last weekend each of our top five dogs won multiple BIS. The first final of this set would go to the Number Two Dog All Breeds Peke, Malachy. Malachy and handler David Fitzpatrick now have 23 BIS this year. Will others follow suit?

Jining Roy in Elaine Mathis’ final were the Irish Setter, CH Greengates The Boss At Beaubriar, the Basenji, CH Walkill Signet Dooney, the Boxer, CH Jacquet’s Laredo El Encanto, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Pug, CH Trafalgar’s Top Gear, and the Keeshond, CH Darkenwald Cavalier O' SouthCar. Roy and handler Ciff Steele are now only four shy of the breed record of 35.
