FULFILLING THE PROMISE

CH Lehigh Ennis Carmichael JC

Three years ago, a friend of mind sent me a photo of a Scottish Deerhound going Best Puppy In Show.  I don’t normally get that excited about puppy awards, but this one was just beautiful.  Three months ago, that Deerhound, was Dana Cline’s BISS at this year’s Scottish Deerhound Club of America National Specialty.

GCH CH Kenro’s Witching Hour

Today I am delighted to tell you that CH Lehigh Ennis Carmichael JC picked up his first all breed BIS.  The win came today at the day two show of the Sugar Bush Kennel Club in Chagrin Falls OH.  Linda Krukar chose Ennis out of a a group that included the Pointer, GCH CH Oncore Mykyna Storm, the RBIS, the Giant Schnauzer GCH CH Kenro’s Witching Hour, the Smooth Fox Terrier, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Toontowns Terriffic Tigger, the American Eskimo Dog, Silver Oak’s Ranier, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Babheim’s Captain Crunch.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Paula Pascoe, co-breeder Pam Smithson, and owner Grant Winchell.

While our Number One Dog All breeds was in Atlanta, our Number Two Dog stayed over in Topeka KS for this week’s four shows.

RENO KENNEL CLUB

GCH CH Lebull's New Hope Wooly Bully

We are still slogging through this past weekend’s results.  When we lived in the Golden State one of our favorite dog show destinations was the Silver State, Nevada, Reno to be specific.  Reno is know as the “Biggest little city in the world.”  Well, we don’t know about that, but we do know we had a lot of fun whenever we went there.  While the gambling is pleasant diversion, it is no longer the unique experience it once was.  We loved the incredible landscapes, with evergreen forests in one direction and desolate moonscapes in the other.  However, the raison d’etre this weekend were the Reno Kennel Club’s two shows.

GCH CH Windemere's Dusting Of White At Pevyne

Saturday’s show drew over 1200 dogs.  The seven Gene Mills saw were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Segre's Brown Derby RA BN OA OAJ, the Basenji, GCH CH Jasiri-Sukari Win Tin Tin, the Great Dane, GCH CH Naple TLBK Dana Sanroques Naika Ika Pono, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Friendship Hill Stars And Stripes, the Pekingese, GCH CH Windemere's Dusting Of White At Pevyne, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Lebull's New Hope Wooly Bully, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Rocky L Pennies From Heaven.  The two that stood our for judge Mills were his RBIS, the Pekingese Dusty, and his BIS, the Frenchie, Bully.  It was the first all breed Best this year for Bully in 15 final appearances.  We love a persistent pooch.  Congratulations to breeder Sylvia Campbell, owner Alexandra Geremia, and handle Wood Wornall.

GCH CH Blossomhil's Hello Dolly

Bully and Dusty would be back on Sunday to see Nancy Capstick along with the same Springer & Great Dane, the Basset Hound, GCH CH Blossomhil's Hello Dolly, the Miniature Bull Terrier, CH Native Suns Chaos At Kingsmere, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Windrift's Latitude.  Closing the set and taking home the top two prizes were the Basset, Dolly, and the Peke, Dusty, who got the Best In Show.  Dusty has been lurking in that never never land of the bottom half of the Top Twenty Dogs All Breeds all year.  The Number Three Toy Dog has nine BIS this year.  Keep an eye on those dogs waiting for an opportunity to move into the Top Ten.

ELVIS & A HOUND DOG

A Greyhound dog that is.  While we were in Greeley this weekend we missed two Memphis staples, the week long memorial to Elvis Presley’s death (August 15, 1977) and the Memphis Toy Dog Club, the Olive Branch Mississippi Kennel Club, & the Memphis Kennel Club four day weekend.  The all breed action started on Friday, just five miles down the road from Graceland, at the Arena in Southaven (that’s just over the state line in Mississippi).

GCH CH Rubicon’s He’s So Fine

The OBMKC had the opener and Dorothy Naegele had the first final.  The seven she saw were the Curly-Coated Retriever, GCH CH Clarions Blackberry Bramble, the Greyhound, GCH CH Rubicon’s He’s So Fine, the Boxer, GCH CH Ho-Pa’s Grand Slam, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Bigwig’s Mack The Knife, the Smooth Chihuahua, GCH CH Yococo’s Stella B, the French Bulldog, Hilsman Game of Thrones, and the Shetland sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables Jolie Victor Ludorum.

Her Top two were her Reserve, the Greyhound, Duncan, and the Sheltie, Ludo.  It’s the first AKC all breed Best for Ludo and breeders/owners/handlers Karen & Paul Hannah.  Congratulations to them both.

GCH CH Imagine Love’s Second Chance

The Memphis Kennel Club held their first show in 1874, three years before the Westminster Kennel Club held their first show.  Saturday they put Janet Turnage Nahkian in the final ring with an all new seven, the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Brookwood Diamond in the Ruff, the Irish Wolfhound, Kerryyard Breadwyn Ffynnon Garw, the Samoyed, Cruzn T’Party at Zamosky, the Smooth Fox Terrier, West Meade Repeat Performance, the winner of Thursday’s MTDC limited breed show, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Bells Will Be Ringing, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Imagine Love’s Second Chance, and the Smooth Collie, GCH CH Row-Bars Heartbreaker.

Finishing One/Two were the Chow, Chance,  and the Shih Tzu, Willy.  We are not surprised to see Chance taking home the big rosette.  We first saw Chance in the breed ring Kalamazoo in May and were impressed enough to feature him in our daily write up for Best In Show Daily.  It is the first BIS this year for Chance.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Kathy & George Beliew and owners Deborah & Thomas Spence.

Nancy Smith Hafner closed the set for the MKC.  The final final seven were the previously seen Curly Coat, the Greyhound, Duncan, the Mastiff, CH Lazy D’s Charmed n Dangerous, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding V Sole Baye, the Yorkshire Terrier, GCH CH Stratford’s Diamond Jim, the Chow, Chance, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Kosmar Striking Back of Bridgelady.

GCH CH Stratford’s Diamond Jim

When it was all over the two still in the ring were the RBIS, the Yorkie Jimmie, and the Greyhound, Duncan.  It is also Duncan’s first of the BIS in six final appearances.  Congratulations to breeder/owner Pamela Rubinstein, co-breeder Susan Cassem, and handler Jamie Clute.
