CRUFTS BEGINS - GUN DOGS

Eng SH CH Vbos The Kentuckian

We tend to be egocentric here in the US, especially strange in the dog fancy considering most of our beloved breeds originated outside the US.  Dog Shows outside the US are not as frequent as here in America, but they make up for that with incredible entries and pageantry.  Arguably the most prestigious of all dog shows is the United Kingdom’s annual homage to the dog, Crufts.  This year’s Crufts is the 120th iteration of the gigantic event and has more than 20,000 entries from all over the world including 19 entries from the US.  For those of us who cannot attend Crufts offers pay for view of a multitude of events over the next three days.

Today the 4,604 Gun Dogs, analogous to our Sporting Group, held sway.  Judge Dr Ronald W James chose the nine year old veteran Flatcoated Retriever, SH CH Vbos The Kentuckian, as his Best of Group.  Reserve went to the Irish Water Spaniel, SH CH Stanegate Sparks Will Fly (AI), Third to the Cocker Spaniel (here we would call it an English Cocker), SH CH Lujesa Touch The Sky JW, and Fourth to the Golden Retriever, Linirgor MacTavish.

Jet is the top winning Flatcoat in the UK and the winner of the 2009 & 2008 Flatcoated Retriever Society’s National Specialties.   Congratulations to breeder/owner James W Irvine.

  1. The Irish Water Spaniel is out of US bred/owned AM CAN CH Sylmar's Raindancer who at the age of almost 15 still lives in Seattle, WA with his owner Timothy Ufkes! Marley is one of the top IWS in the breed and has passed on his greatness to his kids.

  5. There are also 210 breed booths manned every day by bred afficiando's telling the public the good and bad of their breed.
Going back on Sunday to do this for Field Spaniels.
If you are looking for some shopping then there are hundreds of stalls selling every thing that you could think of.
