MORE FROM LONG BEACH CA

We are still suffering from sleep deprivation after our marathon coverage of this weekend’s AKC/Eukanubna National Championship.  However, we still have lots of details that we still want to bring to you.

Junior Handler Katie Mazurowski &
CH Indian Bend Only The Shadow Knows

First, let’s tell you about the Junior Showmanship winner, Katie Mazurowski, a high school senior from Colorado springs CO.  Katie expertly piloted her English Setter, CH Indian Bend Only The Shadow Knows, to the win.    Congratulations on the win and a wonderful start to a life in dogs!

CH Alex De Akido San

One of the most glamorous of Sunday evening’s events is the finals of the World Challenge.  While dog shows are not as plentiful outside the United States, events elsewhere are much larger than here.  The World Dog Show held in Herning Denmark in June drew 20,000 entries representing 330 breeds from 54 countries.  This year’s World Challenge winner was the Doberman Pinscher, CH Alex De Akido San, representing Argentina.  Congratulations to breeder Andrea Fabiana Laruccia and owners Dr Anthony Dinardo & Sheila & Andrea F Laruccia.

GCH CH Kimro's Soldier Boy

One of the most prestigious wins in AKC is the Bred By Exhibitor Best In Show at the National Championship.   This year’s seven finalists were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Rush Hill's River Road Payoff , the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Vin-Melca’s Voyager, the Akita, Kenzo Von Dabusso, the Sealyham Terrier, GCH CH Efbe's Goodspice Easy Money, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Kimro's Soldier Boy, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Players Just Like Butter, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Lambluv Gambolon Blue Thunder.   (In aside, we have to point out that one of the charms of life in AKC is that each judge is independent of the others.  The 2010 AKC/Eukanuba National Champion, the Australian Shepherd, CH Propwash Reckon, was awarded a Group Four in last night’s BBE Herding Group.)

This year’s BBE BIS was the MinPin, Major bred, owned, and handled by Kimberly A Calvacca.  Congratulations to Kim, co-breeders Anthony Calvacca, Robin Greenslade, & Howard Schwell.
