EASTERN DOG CLUB

GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins

Happily the weather in New England has failed to provide any drama with temperatures in the 50s and overcast, but dry skies.  However, there was plenty of drama in the show arena at today’s Eastern Dog Club, with four of AKC’s Top Ten Dogs competing, three of which would make it to BIS.  Michael Faulkner’s final seven were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Cerise’s Tender Is The Night, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Lanrigg Star Of The Stage, the Boxer, CH Mahogany's Mi Own Sweet Time, the Irish Terrier, GCH CH Fleet St Fenway Fan,  the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy, the  Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

BIS went to the winningest Beardie of all time, Roy.  Roy and handler Cliff Steele have collected  46 career Bests, 31 of which have come this year.

  2. I know dog shows are subjective and every judge has an idea what he is looking for, but when Roy didn't make the cut when he was being judged for Breed at Eukanuba and the judge had to put his hands on the other dogs 3 more times that did make the cut, I think he was profundly confused. Roy got Group 1 the previous 3 days at the shows and I just think they missed big time. I went looking for him in the grooming tent and I was not disappointed. What a dog!

  3. The Weather Channel shows no precipitation in the past 24 hours in Providence and a low temperature tomorrow of 47F, pretty balmy for December in New England.

  4. Dear Annonymous, this breed was not the only breed that something completely different happened for "Eukanuba Day" - vs. the results (and same competitors) on all 3 of the days leading up to the actual Eukanuba show.
I understand it happened in quite a number of breeds. And, the same thing happened with my dog - Joe. It happens, it's a dog show ... we pay our $x for the judges opinion on the day - that's all we pay for, that's all we get.

  5. That dog just takes your breath away and Cliff is a great handler! Would love to know what happens for Best Puppy in Show today. Chihuahua got it yesterday, am thinking today could be the Bouvier's day?

  6. Big congrats to cliff and roy and I have to second what was said above, we pay for an opinion and sometimes we win and sometimes we don't.

Billy lots of rain in Providence and lots of black ice. The show was delayed again for 1/2 hour (as it was yesterday). The Weather Channel was wrong!
