While we were all focused on the rivalry between the the Giant Schnauzer, CH Galilee's Pure Of Spirit, and the Pointer, CH Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry, another great dog, the Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe's Hidalgo At Goodspice, ran away with Judge Robert Frost's heart and the BIS title at today's Santa Cruz Kennel Club show in San Mateo CA, proving once again that no one can predict the ourcome of an AKC dog show.
The win complicates the race for number one. If either the Giant or the Pointer wins tomorrow's Oakland Kennel Club show, she will be the 2008 number one dog. However, if neither wins, the Giant may win the national title by the slimmest of margins, 200 to 300 points.

Should the sister of the giant's handler recuse herself from judging the sporting group tomorrow in the "SPIRIT" of fair play? I certainly think so!!!
ReplyDeleteNo...because she is not showing to her...and if on the off chance the pointer does not win the group tomorrow people will look at it like she was doing it for her sister...but remember this sport of purebred dogs is all based on opinion...and just cause the pointer is number one sporting does not mean that automatically it should win the group...same goes to the schnauzer if rolls were reversed...there are other outstanding entries that are at the show that are equally deserving of the win...i.e...vizsla, clumber, sussex, and wirehaired pointig griffon...so we will see in the judges opinion in her eyes who best meets their individual breed standard...

She took the assignment LONG before this contest was ever this close AND the handler and owners of the Pointer were certainly aware of the relationship when they entered their dog! And I think it is unfair to assume that she will do anything other than judge the dogs as she sees them. Certainly the pointer's people think she can be fair or why else would they enter?
ReplyDeleteWHY should the judge recuse herself? Maybe the handler and her exhibit should recuse themselves from the show and anywhere else the sister would be on future panels? If the judge's ethics are in question for being able to properly/fairly evaluate an exhibit, then why would they be exempt from potentially trying to influence other judges from putting up the family members dogs in other rings at the show?
It has to stop somewhere! Personally, I believe people to be honest and good the MAJORITY of the time. Neither of these women has EVER given anyone cause to question their ethics in such a manner. Let them do their jobs and let's all sit back and see what happens!
Charmin is truly one of the greatest terriers ever so it's nice to see him recognized when the focus lately has been on the pointer and giant.
ReplyDeleteWhy should the sporting group judge recuse herself from judging when people involved with the pointer have passed judgement over the schnauzer in the past. Just because their name isn't on it as owner ,doesn't mean they aren't involved with it.
ReplyDeleteFurthermore why must you all assume that them judges can't judge the dogs on their merit, and not on who is winning or who owns them or shows them?
I do not think so, this did not matter the rest of the year, and the Pointer knows what it is going into today, they entered their dog.
