THREE DAYS AT PURINA FARMS

Of the 11 venues offering shows this past week all but two were of the traditional two day variety.  There was the four day outing in Montana we told you about and three days at Purina Farms outside of St Louis MO.  The trio of shows in the heartland drew Top Ten competition, including the Number Two & Number Three Dogs All Breeds.

The Rolla Missouri Kennel Club kicked it off on Friday, putting judge Charles Olvis in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltale American Ride, the 15”Beagle, GCH CH Tashtin’s Lookin for Trouble, the Neapolitan Mastiff, GCH CH Ironwood's Papparrazi, the Soft Coated Wheaten, GCH CH Shandalee Fireworks, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH Sonnus Filho (Sanchez), the Boston Terrier, CH Sabe’s Simply Invincible, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Scampering away with the BIS was the Chihuahua, Sonnito.  Taking the RBIS was the Springer, Randy.  Sonnito is AKC’s Number One Chihuahua (all varieties), Number Two Toy Dog, and Number 11 Dog All Breeds with a breed record 21 BIS this season.

CH Sabe’s Simply Invincible

At Saturday’s Spirit of The Heartland Kennel Club final, judge James Malone would see six of Friday’s finalists and the Russell Terrier, GCH CH DBF Woodsong Of KCR.  He would name the Boston, Vinnie, as his Best and the Neapolitan, Papparrazi, as his Reserve.  It was the first BIS for the 13 month old dog and breeder/owner/handler Sharon Saberton.  Congratulations to them both.

Papparrazi would be back to take the BIS at Sunday’s Jefferson County Kennel Club Of Missouri final.  Joining him in judge Carl Gomes’ ring were the Springer , Randy, the RBIS, the  familiar Beagle, Miss P, the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, GCH CH Cumhill Hell Raiser, the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Integra Maja Scattered Pearls, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Kimik's Who Dunnit, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH McMatt’s Autumn Breeze.

GCH CH Tashtin’s Lookin for Trouble

Papparazzi is the only Neapolitan Mastiff to win a Working Group this year and one of only two Neapolitans to have ever won an AKC BIS.  Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler   Jim Deppen, co-breeder Mimi Winkler, and owner Susan Vann-Spruill.

We start our Monday Morning Mop Up where we left off, in Helena MT where the Gallatin Dog Club and the Helena Montana Kennel Club set up camp for four days this past week.  You may recall we told you that the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline's Unit of Measure, was judge Marion Dee ward’s BIS at the GDC opener.

Cubit would return to the final ring at Friday’s GDC encore to plead his case with judge Carol Graham.  He was joined by the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward, the Black & Tan Coonhound, GCH CH Southchase's Wilbert Roy, the Akita, GCH CH Mojo's Continuation Of A Myth, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH J'Cobe Broxden Accidentally On Porpoise, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copper Hills No Reservations.

The Akita, Nik, would take the BIS, while Cubit would add an RBIS to his tally.   It was the seventh BIS of the year for the nation’s Number Nine Working Dog.

The HMKC took over on Saturday and put judge Jon Cole in the final ring with Nik, Cubit, the returning Field Spaniel, Coonhound, & Australian Shepherd, the Glen of Imaal Terrier, GCH CH Finnabair Ardmore Ned, and the Pekingese, GCH CH Dunkirk Imagine That.  Judge Cole would also like Cubit and Nik, Naming the Keeshond his Best and the Akita his Reserve.  Cubit is the country’s Number Three Non-Sporting Dog with four BIS this season.

GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward

Judge Anne Katona would bring it home on Sunday for the HMKC  with the now familiar Field Spaniel, Akita, Shih Tzu, Keeshond, & Australian Shepherd, the 13” Beagle, CH Cherry Creek Tattletale, and the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Dytona VIP.  Taking home the set’s last big rosette was the Field Spaniel, Gideon, while Cubit would pick up another reserve ribbon for his collection.  Gideon is the Number Three Sporting Dog with 13 BIS in 2014.

DAY ONE IN HELENA MT

After several weeks of multiple shows in multiple venues, this week seems downright leisurely.  There is but one four show cluster this week and you will have to travel a ways to take it in.   The  Gallatin Dog Club and Helena Montana Kennel Club are each hosting two shows in Helena MT this week.

GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward

The GDC kicked it off on Thursday, capping the day with judge  Marion Dee Ward in the final ring.  Her seven hopefuls were the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward, the 13” Beagle, CH Cherry Creek Tattletale, the Akita, GCH CH Redwitch Adreneline Junkie, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Dytona’s VIP, the Shih Tzu, GCH CH Hallmark Jolei Rocket Power, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline's Unit Of Measure, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Copper Hills No Reservations.

Taking the day one BIS was the Keeshond, Cubit.  The Field Spaniel, Gideon, would collect the RBIS.  Cubit is the country’s Number One Keeshond and Number Three Non-Sporting Dog with three BIS this season.

The Lhasa Apso, GCH CH Kumi Kian Strike A Pose, made the most of her weekend in Cashmere WA, taking both the big rosettes at past weekend’s Wenatchee Kennel Club shows.

On Saturday Madonna was judge Grant Townsends Best In Show.  Challenging for the win were the Part-Colored Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH My-Ida-Ho N Jems Captain, the RBIS, the Harrier, GCH CH Pacific Happytail's Heartbreaker, the Bullmastiff, GCH CH Banstock N Highpoint New Day Bruin At Kimo, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Cambria’s Kid n Play, the Toy Poodle, CH North Well Vivian JP Rose Queen, and the Beauceron, GCH CH De Joie Du Chateau Rocher CA.

Madonna and breeder/owner/handler Tia McLaughlin would return to the final ring on Sunday to claim the BIS from judge Joe Walton while the Brittany, GCH CH Sanbar's Ride The Winds, the returning Harrier, the Akita, GCH CH Sondaisa Fyre When Ready CD RN, the RBIS, the West Highland White Terrier, GCH CH Whitebriar Jaw Dropper (Nzd), the Havanese, GCH CH Peluito's Papi Chulo, and the aforementioned Beauceron looked on.

The wins were the second and third BIS of  the year for Tia and Madonna.

With multiple specialty and limited breed shows as warm ups, the Bonneville Basin Kennel Association’s September shows in Farmington UT are eagerly anticipated.

Judge Robert Schreve had the final at this year’s opener.  Hoping to catch his eye were the Vizsla, GCH CH Kyllburg N Woodland's Jazz And Blues, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Foxtail's Race For The Chase, the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Lowdown Remy’s Girl V Ardenhout, the Miniature Bull Terrier, CH VIP’s I Know You Know At Albion, the Chinese Crested, GCH CH Kulana’s Sh-Boom, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Rosebell Pzazz Perfectly Charming, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Blu Chip's Serendipity.

The two that succeeded were the Poodle, Charm, and the Beagle, JJ.  It was the first all breed BIS for Charm.  Congratulations to breeders Heidi Bellamy & Elaine Bellamy , owners Cathy K Gauche & Jerry N Gauche, and handler Laurel Berg.

Charm and JJ would return to the final ring on Sunday along with the above named Vizsla to see judge Houston Clark.  Joining them were the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Ogee Saltus Ze Zahrabske, the American Staffordshire Terrier, GCH CH Sierra’s Ground Zero, the Brussels Griffon, GCH CH Hilltop’s GQ Cover Boy, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Wind Spirit Rods Amazing Grace.

Going to the head of the line was the Beagle, JJ, followed by the Aussie, Grace.  It was the third BIS of the year for JJ and handler Mike Kurtzner.
