SEND OUR JUNIOR TO CRUFTS

Katelynn Edgecombe and CH Luna’s Timeliss Lara Croft Of Cantu

For the past four years Maggie Peat, AKC judge, and owner of Pramada Kennels is helping raise funds to send the Best Junior in Show at the 2013 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (AENC) to England to represent the US at Crufts.  While the AENC Junior winner receives a generous $2000 scholarship and their hotel costs in the UK, the Junior winner is responsible for all other costs.  As anyone who has made a trip to the UK knows transportation, meals, and incidentals mount up to a hefty price.

The American Kennel Club is generously covering the hotel costs, but that still leaves air travel for the junior and a chaperone to Birmingham ($1000 per ticket) and the exorbitant cost of food in the UK. I am committed to maintaining this fund so instead of setting a goal of $5000, let's raise as much as we can as I believe $3000 per trip is likely going to be an ongoing expense for the winning representative.

Katelynn Edgecombe, a high school sophomore, was last month’s Best Junior in Orlando FL,  defeating 148 other handlers in her first appearance at the AENC.   Katelynn was introduced to the dog show game seven years ago after joining a 4-H club in Snohomish County, Washington.    Her 4-H leader’s loaned her a bullmastiff so she could begin competing as a junior show ring, She quickly started winning first place in junior novice competitions. She eventually transitioned to a show quality Australian Shepherd becoming more competitive in open class competitions. Three years ago a short, stout pug full of personality named Lara entered her life. CH Luna’s Timeliss Lara Croft Of Cantu and Katelynn became a team. Katelynn says, “Our first time out we got best junior, and I knew it was a match made in heaven. She loves to show and we have fun together.”

We hope that our community will once again, open their hearts and help this young woman realize her dream.  You can make a contribution at this Paypal account managed by Maggie.
