RARE GLEN OF IMAAL BIS

GCH CH Finnabair Ardmore Ned

If a Best In Show by a Dandie Dinmont Terrier is rare, a BIS by a Glen of Imaal Terrier is almost unprecedented. On Saturday the Glen of Imaal Terrier, GCH CH Finnabair Ardmore Ned, became the first Glen of Imaal to win a BIS in ten years and only the second to win a BIS.

Joining Ned in judge Carolyn Herbel’s final at the Saline County Kennel Club Of Arkansas show in Benton AR were the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Daybreak Brookswood Hooray4hollywood, the Afghan Hound, CH Jolie Justified, the Rottweiler, GCH CH Nighthawk's Limited Edition CD RE THD, the RBIS, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Char's Seattle Slew For Triple Crown, the Standard Poodle, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, CH Giants Dance O Praise Him.

It was the first BIS in 15 final appearances this year for Ned and handler Beverly Osment. Congratulations to Beverly, breeder/owner Mary McDaniel DVM, co-breeder Margret M Ewald, and owners Donald Doyle & Ann Doyle.

Here’s a bit of Glen of Imaal trivia for those who doubt that Glens were used to turn spits, check out the 1935 Ronald Coleman film version of the Dickens classic, A Tale of Two Cities. In an early scene there is a Glen of Imaal Terrier, in a large hamster wheel turning the spit in a tavern.

Sunday judge Jim Briley would see the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Emery's In The Midnight Hour, the Irish Wolfhound, Taryn Callahan, the above named Rottweiler, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Dancy’s Rough Rider, the aforementioned Pom & Poodle, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Copperridge’s Son Of Anarchy. He would name the Poodle, Flame, as his BIS and the Pom, Huey, as his RBIS.

Flame is the country’s Number One Non-Sporting Dog and the Number Three Dog All Breeds with 41 BIS and 104 Non-Sporting Groups this year.

  1. I love your trivia reg. the Glen. Thank you for that. This breed is so under rated. Nice to see a good one win.
