PROGRESSIVE DOG CLUB

GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy

Nearly 500 Toy Dogs crowded the Pavilion Level at the New York Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan for today’s limited breed Progressive Dog Club show.  It’s the first glimpse of what we are likely to see at Tuesday night’s Toy Group at the Westminster Kennel Club show.

Ken McDermott’s Top Toy Dog was the last year’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Pekingese, GCH CH PalaceGarden Malachy.  Rounding out the placements were the 2010 Westminster Toy Group winner, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Papillon, CH Copella’s Rising Attraction, and the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Full Of Malarkey Miles Of Aisles.

How did our other WWW Toy Dogs fare?  The Maltese, GCH CH Ta-Jon’s Just Bee-Ing Silly was not entered because her owner/handler was on the show committee.  The Affenpinscher, GCH CH Banana Joe V Tani Kazari, was absent.  The Pomeranian, GCH CH Powerpom High Performance, won the breed in a very large Pom entry, and the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor was defeated in the breed.

Las Vegas has the Peke, Malachy, as the second  most likely to grab the heavy silver Tuesday night.  We think they might be underestimating him.  We know we won’t be betting our lunch money on the outcome.  Congratulations to breeders Jim & Jean Smith, owner/handler David Fitzpatrick, and owners Iris Love & Sandra Middlebrook.

  6. The quality in handlers in Pugs is SO strong...

Hoping to see some good results for Rufus this week! He's quite possibly THE most correct, typey Pug out competing right now.

  7. The competition in Pugs is just starting to heat up. There are some quality new dogs and young dogs coming up. This will be a VERY exciting and competitive year in Pugs!

  8. Two of the dogs that are favored in the toy group are from European lines. Wonder if one or the other wins the group, if that would be an advantage in the Best In Show Ring, as the judge is European?

  9. Pugs may be the breed to watch with all the hoopla surrounding some of the new dogs out there. Can't wait to see the results. This may be just the beginning of a super hot contest. May the best team win!
