COMING OUT & COMING IN

We were at Saturday’s Memphis Kennel Club show which was held just a few blocks across the state line in Southaven MS.

CH Bannochburn's Celtic Evensong
bred/owned/handled by Barbara Allen

After confining ourselves to armchair critic for the past few years, we got to take our 15 month old Cairn bitch, Shadowland’s Devil In Disguise, to her first show. Although we no longer sweat the small stuff like we used to, we got to re-experience some of those first show foibles. To begin with, we forgot to put our suit jacket in the car and were forced to show in our shirt sleeves. We also made a conscious decision to leave our girl, Dee Dee, looking a little too natural, further handicapping our chances. Finally, Dee Dee decided that her coming out was a good time for her coming into season. We had thought that that odd tail set and erratic ears were just signs of first show jitters.

In the end, we thought ourselves lucky that Dee Dee moved well around the ring, did not shy away from the judge, and did not attack her competition. The day was saved by our very kind and welcoming fellow Cairn exhibitors. Our thanks to Barbara Allen, Patrice Willis, Eva Miller, and Jane Biggerstaff for their hospitality.

CH Genesis Silverado

At the end of the day Marcia Feld got to see the English Cocker Spaniel, CH Especially Magic Happens, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Great Pyrenees, CH Saddle Ridge Power Of Won, the Wire Fox Terrier, CH Tamedale Orinoco , the Pekingese, CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar, the Bichon Frise, CH Risgae Miabella Sweet Georgia, and the Belgian Tervuren, CH Sanroyals Devils Delight.

BIS went to the English Cocker, a two year old bred by Yvonne Van Wyck and owned by Penny Harris, Si Moss, & Mindy Bartholomew. Congratulations to them all. Now, one of you send us a photo.

  1. Congratulations on making it around the ring! Dog shows are like baseball... some days you are playing T-Ball, some days you are playing College Ball, and, if you are really on fire, some days you are playing in the Big Leagues... but hopefuly it's always only a game!
