We have another report from the heartland, Corydon IN, to be exact. The Southern Indiana Kennel Club is hosting a two show weekend. Today it was Dr Gareth Morgan-Jones with the judge’s book and his BIS was the German Wire Haired Pointer, CH Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout. We don’t know if BIS number eight will move Scout into the all breed top ten, but we know that the number two Sporting Dog is very close.

OHIO RESULTS
We don’t know why the folks in the Midwest are more prompt with their reporting than are those on the east coast. We do know that the MBF reps there always post their results before the New England and Mid Atlantic reps do. So while we wait for results from the Massachusetts and Virginia shows, we will tell you what happened at the Toledo Kennel Club’s show in Maumee OH.
Judge Ann Hearn had the Field Spaniel, CH Capriole’s Mystic Chalice, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Pupukearidge Ikaika O Sprngvly, the Great Pyrenees, CH Pyrless Les Monts de Lourdes, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice, the Shih Tzu, CH Hallmark Joleigh Surfer Girl, the Keeshond, CH Sprookje Lunar Appellation, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Lambluv’s Daydream Believer.
BIS went to the country’s number two Terrier, Dodger. Dodger has been sitting just outside the top ten for these past few weeks. If he can keep posting wins like this one, he’ll be joining that elite group.

SOUTH OF THE BORDER
We’ve just returned from a run for the border. No not Taco Bell, we visited our local show just across the state line from Memphis in Southhaven MS where the Olive Branch Mississippi Kennel Club kicked off their two day stand with Jean Fournier judging BIS.
Her finalists were the Brittany, CH Dualan Marsport Super Charger, the 15” Beagle, CH Irish Coffee Tipperary Sparkling Wine, the Kuvasz, CH Szumeria’s Wildwood Silver Six Pence, the Cairn Terrier, CH Winsome Fergus MacFlynn, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, CH Osito Dream Lover, the Chow Chow, CH Rio’s American Design, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Riverside Wicked Wonderful.
Her BIS was the nine month old Kuvasz, Tanner. Tanner announced his intentions earlier this year winning the Kuvasz Club Of America Specialty at just seven months of age. Tanner was bred by Lynn Brady & Constance Townsend, who co-own this puppy prodigy with Claudia Muir. Congratulations to them all.
Our thanks to all of the exhibitors who took the time to chat with us. As Cairn owners we were delighted to see Fergus, the only Cairn Terrier to win an all breed BIS in the last three years, in the final ring and meet his owners Kendall & Tim Lake and his handler Patsy Wade. We also want to thank handler Judi Hartell for taking time out of her busy day to talk with us. We had so much fun, we will go back again tomorrow. Who knows, maybe the Cairn will win this time ;-)

A WINNING HAND IN LA
We just told you about a BIS winning Norfolk Terrier. Now we have a report that the Norwich Terrier, CH Skyscot’s Poker Chip, has picked up his fourth BIS. This one came today in Lafayette LA at the Acadiana Kennel Club show with judge Maxine Beam making the call. As owners of one of the small Terriers (a Cairn), we are always delighted to see one of the little guys prevail.

Woodstock IL (No, that one was in NY) has checked in to let us know that the Norfolk Terrier, CH Max-Well’s Viper, has scampered off with the BIS at the Fox River Valley Kennel Club courtesy of DR Richard Greathouse. That’s number two this year for the US’ number one Norfolk. Congratulations to breeder/ owner/handler Susan Kipp and co-owner Barbara Miller.

NO MORE MISSED BREEDINGS
A

Recently a reader told us about NOVOSTICKS, an easy to use test strip that takes the guess work out of breeding. They are a European invention and are now available in the US. You can read more about them at the NOVODOG USA site.

While our main purpose is to report on events in the dog show world, we occasionally stumble across dog products that we think are worth a mention. A lot of us spend hundreds of hours researching pedigrees, make dozens of phone calls to stud dog owners, and put out a lot of money to get a bitch bred. If you have had breedings that did not take, you know the frustration.

COEUR D'ALENE FINALISTS
We have yesterday’s finalists from the Coeur D’Alene (ID ) Dog Fanciers show. You might recall that we told you the Soft Coated Wheaten “Jolie”, went Best.
She was accompanied in the final seven by the Golden Retriever, CH Rush Hill's River Road Payoff, the Basenji, CH Platinum's Adrenaline Rush, the Doberman Pinscher, Perfex Cyclone Mahina, the Brussels Griffon, CH Belleterre Shall We Dance, the American Eskimo Dog, CH Silveroaks First & Foremost, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH VonHamm Bedkar Leathern' Lace. Congratulations to them all.
THIS WEEK'S SHOWS
It’s Wednesday and it’s time for coming attractions. Last week we had one five day cluster and six four day clusters. This week we have a more leisurely pace with only one four day cluster. We start the weekend in Lafayette LA on Friday with the four day Cajun Classic Cluster. The Acadiana and Baton Rouge Kennel Clubs will share the load.
We do have three sites offering three day weekends. In Region One, you can head to the Philadelphia suburb of Wrightstown PA for the Keystone Garden Cluster hosted by the Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Association and the Huntington Valley & Burlington County Kennel Clubs. It’s not a cluster, but three shows by two clubs in the Chicago burbs. The Fox River Valley KC will do Friday and Saturday in Woodstock IL and then the Stone City KC will take over on Sunday in Morris IL, some 67 miles south. Finally, the Fargo-Moorhead KC will camp out for three days in West Fargo ND starting Friday.
The good news is that there are lots of sites to spend a traditional weekend at an AKC dog show. In Region one we have shows in upstate NY (Clayton) courtesy of the St Lawrence Valley Dog Club, in Massachusetts (Wrentham) by the Ladies Dog Club & the Framingham District KC. In Region Two it’s the Charlottesville-Abemarle KC in Charlottesville VA. The Toledo KC takes over Region Three with two shows in Maumee OH.
Midwesterners can choose between the Region Four offerings in Corydon IN by the Southern Indiana KC or the Mississippi Valley KC two shows in Gray Summit MO. We will be at Olive Branch Mississippi KC the shows in Southhaven MS, just over the state line from Memphis. Elsewhere in Region Five, the Flatirons KC offers a two day stand 35 miles north of Denver in Longmont CO.
West Coast residents are always up for a ride on I-5 and this weekends shows are over 1,000 miles apart. In Region Six it’s the Yakima Valley Kennel Club in Yakima WA and in Region Seven it’s the Kennel Club of Pasadena in Pasadena CA. That’s 33 chances to see an AKC dog show this weekend. What’s your excuse for not going?
