We have this just in, the Pug, CH Tupelo Shoboat Tu China Tu, is making a strong challenge for the number one Toy Dog title with another BIS win. This one came today at the Columbia Missouri Kennel Club show courtesy of Judge Patricia Trotter. We suspect when we total this weekend's wins we are going to find the race for a top ten spot has tightened considerably.

MOON OVER KANSAS
You know, we love it when an fancier sends us in a show report because they are excited that someone who owns the same breed as they went BIS. So, thank you, Jodi Ellison of Windsheen Whippets, for telling us that the Whippet, CH Moongaze Jomyr Some Splainin' Ta Do, went Best In Show under Judge Patricia Hess at the day two show of the Garden City Kansas Kennel. Luna, a four year old bitch, was bred by Aaron Todd Miller MD, Terri Motola & Mary Graham, is owned by Dr. Miller & Sheila Feldman, and handled bhy Barbara Wayne. Congratulations to them all on Luna’s BIS and, again correct us if we are wrong, her first all breed BIS ever!
PALM BEACH'S NEW YORK CONNECTION
The season is waning in Palm Beach, but snowbird New Yorkers were still in evidence on the first day of the Palm Beach County Dog Fanciers Association show. One even managed to run away with Best In Show.
Judge Donald Booxbaum assembled the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Afghan Hound, CH Genesis Silverado, the Bernese Mountain Dog, CH Adesa‘s The Heat Is On, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Buddy Goodman, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Modrian V H Lamslag RE, the Standard Poodle, CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Rollingview Beat of My Heart.
The three year old, bred and owned by Eugene Z Zaphiris & Matthew H Stander of New York, NY and handled by Lawrence W Cornelius, also won the all Terrier Everglades Terrier Club show the day before. And, correct us if we are wrong, but we believe this is his first BIS. Congratulations!

SAX IN SAN ANTONIO
We just returned from a rare night out for dinner to find that we have dog show results to pass along. Down in San Antonio on day two of the Kennel Club Of Greater Victoria shows, Judge Dr Luc Boileau tapped the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresisible, for her fifth Best In Show this year. “Sax” is arguably the surrogate canine for the National Organization for Women with a team of seven female co-owners, breeder/owners Connie Dubois & Dr. Cindi Bossart, co-owners Nancy Comparato, Debbie Green, Jennifer Mosing, Dr. Stacy Smith and Leah Warner. Handler Brian Livingston and breeder James Efron must feel a little like Tom Hanks in the movie, A League of their Own. All teasing aside, congratulations to them all. We are feeling a little bit of a Herding Group momentum here. Can’t wait to add up this week’s points.
MORE CRUFTS RESULTS
We just watched the Toy Group judging at Crufts and were thrilled to see our American dogs represented once again. Although no AKC dog got a group placement, making the cut was the Prince of Pekingese, Hiram Stewart with CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar. Congratulations to Hiram and breeder/owner John Shaw.

SCARLETT TAKES NASHVILLE
This weekend in Nashville you can go to the Grand Ole Opry and see Ricky Skaggs and Carrie Underwood or you can make a trip to the suburb of Franklin TN and see over a 1,000 beautiful AKC purebred dogs.
Yesterday, Judge Dana Cline had seven of the most beautiful in his BIS ring at the Nashville Kennel Club show. They were the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Ripsnorter's Mt.View Lookout, the Afghan Hound, CH Silhouette's Shame Shame Shame JC, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Welsh Terrier, CH Bayleigh Shaireab's Super Hero, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Signatures Last Man Standing, the Standard Poodle, CH Anastasia Da Maya, and the Briard, CH Uniquehengo Des Uns Et Des Autres.
Without benefit of spangled costume or blond wig, the Boxer, “Scarlett”, took home the top prize. Scarlett first caught our eye with her Group Two finish at last month's Westminster show. It was the first BIS for the 22 month old bitch. Congratulations to breeders Tina Porter & Lee Stanton, owners D McCarroll, M Fagan, Mrs J Billhardt, S Tenenbaum, and handler Diego Fernando Garcia.
SHAR PEI AT THE ALAMO
Here we are in the second weekend in March and we are already starting to see some of the same dogs appearing in BIS ring after BIS ring. However, we still have some fresh faces to surprise us each show.
And so it was in Judge Lester Mapes final seven at the Kennel Club of Greater Victoria in San Antonio TX yesterday. Standing for consideration were the Field Spaniel, CH Bitterblue's Here Comes Da Judge, the Whippet, Starline's Haute Couture At Starseeker, the Boxer, CH Bravo N Sunset Stealing Time, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Chaoyang's Chick Magnet At Asia, and the Rough Collie, CH Sylvan Argent Simply Irresisible.
And it was one of the lesser known, the 15 month old Shar Pei, Magnum who took home the big rosette. Congratulations to breeder/owner/handler Lisa Lee Myers on Magnum’s first BIS.

AMERICANS INVADE CRUFTS

No group epitomizes the British dog fancy like the Terrier Group. Most of the 27 Terrier breeds hail from the British Isles. So we proudly report that two AKC dogs went Best and Reserve (second) in today’s Terrier Group at the world’s largest dog show, Crufts. The Sealyham Terrier, CH Efbe’s Hidalgo At Goodspice, was selected Best In Group and the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, was awarded Reserve. Now, we are aware that Sealie, Charmin, was born in Canada, but we are counting him as one of our own.
We found that the Crufts website, like our Jaguar, is not the most reliable vehicle, but we did find these two links of interest. You can get Crufts results here and, streaming live TV (take that BBC!) here.

ALAMO OR SPACE NEEDLE?
In some parts of the country the dog show weekend has already started. Just up the road from us in the Music City of Nashville TN, the four day Country Music Cluster begins today in Franklin TN hosted by the Nashville Kennel Club show and the Tullahoma Kennel Club Of Tennessee. Also beginning today is the Alamo City Cluster in San Antonio TX, also running four days. The San Antonio Kennel Club and the Kennel Club Of Greater Victoria will do the honors.
Three day clusters starting tomorrow are slated for Garden City Kansas and Auburn IN. The Garden City Kennel Club will host the former and Laporte County and Logansport KCs will share the latter. Out on the west coast San Francisco residents can drive the 800 miles north to the Seattle Kennel Club (WA) Saturday/Sunday double header or 400 miles to the south to the Apple Valley Kennel Club shows in Victorville CA.

Also hosting traditional weekend fare are the Columbia Missouri KC and the Palm Beach County (FL) KC. Finally metro New Yorkers can grab the Sunday Times and head to suburban White Plains NY for the Saw Mill River Kennel Club show. They’re all AKC all breed dog shows and you will find something to take your breath away at any of the shows
