TERRIERS TOP THREE SHOWS

GCH CH Joval Sweet Time

While we have owned and shown dogs from six of AKC’s seven groups, we think of ourselves as Terrier men. We currently live with a Scottie and a Cairn and our departed Sealyham Terrier remains our favorite. Yesterday’s BIS winners include three Terriers.

In Wilmington MA, the Airedale, GCH CH Joval Sweet Time, was judge Cindy Vogels’ BIS. Ms Vogels might have chosen the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Pineridge Cathedral Black Tie Affair, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Somerri Jamiesons Echo Of Whiskey, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Mistels Can Can, the Havanese, GCH CH Surluv Lickin Larrgo De Grace, her RBIS, the Bulldog, GCH CH Pat-A-Bulls Don Ciccio Di Pj, or the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Blackdale’s Larkspur, but she didn’t.

It was the first BIS of the year for Splenda who finished last year with five BIS and 29 Terrier Groups. Congratulations to breeder/owner Dr Valeria Rickard, co-breeder John Rickard, owner Lisa Bryan, and handler Adam Bernardin.

WE'VE ONLY JUST BEGUN

GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse

As we start our eighth season here on Dog Show Poop we are frequently asked if we tire of the game. It’s kind of like asking an eight year old if he tires of Christmas morning. We may see many of the same faces and we may have to suffer a re-gifted fruit cake now and then, but we know that something will show up under the tree that makes us smile and will make us remember this year along with all those that have come before.

GCH CH Flessner’s International S’Cess

While the large shows are a means to instant recognition in the show world, consistent winning is still the tried and true method of achieving greatness. Last year’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, picked up his fifth BIS of the new year at Thursday’s Annapolis Kennel Club in Westminster MD.

ROSE CITY CLASSIC BEGINS!

GCH CH Hitime What the Inferno

As any fancier with ambitions of owning a Top Ten Dog All Breeds knows, January is the critical month of the show season. Three venues offer up about 30,000 points. The Palm Springs weekend has two giant all breed shows preceded by limited breed shows as large as the average all breed show. The Florida Marathon in Brooksville FL offers ten chances in ten days at 1000 plus all breed titles. The four day Rose City Classic in Portland OR can propel a dog into the Top Ten and keep him/her there until mid-year. Remember 2014’s Number Ten Dog All Breeds had less than 30,000 points.

GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect

Yesterday’s Tualatin Kennel Club show opened the Rose City Classic, ending the day with judge Douglas Johnson in the final ring. The seven dogs hoping to take home all those points were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Sandpiper’s Let Freedom Ring, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Agha Djaris Eye Candy Of Sura CGC, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Seacrest’s I’m Not What You Think, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Imaginabull’s First Edition, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Hitime What the Inferno, the Kesshond, GCH CH Skyline’s Unit of Measure, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Taking the opening BIS was last year’s Number One Toy Dog, the Pom, Danny. Collecting the RBIS was 2014’s Number One Herding Dog, the OES, Swagger. The win follows a BIS last Saturday in Phoenix AZ, four Toy Group firsts, and multiple group placements by Danny in the first two weeks of the season, making Danny one of the early contenders for Number One Dog All Breeds. Congratulations to breeders Joan D Caracsole & Ashley Carcasole, owners Bonnie Bird & Udomsin Littichaikun, and handler Curtiss Smith.
