GCH CH Leoralees Baywatch MW 

The Meri-Miss Kennel Club had the final day in Hattiesburg MS and they asked judge Jon Cole to choose his top two from the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, the Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CH Leoralees Baywatch MW, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Tiburon Ariel Bella Dona, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Chinese Crested, GCH CH Zens Cirque Du Soleil, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Heats on Fire, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Coventry Just a Little Crush.

 BIS went to the Dachshund and RBIS went to the prophetically named Welsh Terrier. It was the first for the three year old Dachshund in three final attempts this year and breeder/owner/handler Marietta Singleton. Congratulations to Marietta and fellow breeder/owner Suzanne Steele

Judge Nathaniel Horn had the final at the Sunday show of the Rockland Kennel Club in Suffern NY and his pick of the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Treeing Walker Coonhound, GCH CH Alexanders Gold Rush Xcetera, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Raindance Led Zeppelin Of Marquis the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Rivendell’s Tinker Toy, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, CH Sonnus Shilo (Sanchez), the Dalmatian, GCH CH Erin’s I’m Your Man, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Ha’Penny Mirimar The Fab Fawn.

The week’s most dominant performance was in Tallahassee FL where the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, swept all four BIS. The latest win came Sunday at the Ochlockonee River Kennel Club Of Florida show.

Also seeking judge Jay Richardson’s approval were the Gordon Setter, GCH CH Wildwood’s affirmed, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Boxer, GCH CH Hi-Tech’s King of Sherry Shot, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the Bulldog, GCH CH Dowats The Gladiator, and his Reserve winner, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Telltail Coco Posh. 

It was Classie’s eighth BIS of the year in 20 final appearances. Classie’s 126th career BIS puts her within two BIS of the all-time record for a Toy Dog of 128 BIS. Is it too early to put the champagne on ice?

We are beginning out Monday Morning Mop Up with the showdown between the nation’s Top Two Dogs All Breeds. The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Clair Creek’s Impression de Matisse, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, met Sunday in Chicago for the fourth time this week. This time it was the OES, Swagger, walking away with the top prize.

Joining Matisse and Swagger in judge Col Joe Purkhiser’s final for the International Kennel Club of Chicago were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Telltail American Ride, his RBIS, the Greyhound, GCH CH GrandCru Philips Insignia, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Broxden Shark Dressed Man, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, CH Ouachitah One Life To Give, and the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Saks Winning Card.

Swagger returns home to Colorado with nine BIS, six RBIS, and 20 Herding Groups this year, and just a step behind the PWD, Matisse. We are so looking forward to this year!

Dr Steve Keating had the judge’s book in Saturday’s final at the Greater Hattiesburg Kennel Club show in that Mississippi town.  The seven dogs that stayed all day were the Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH Ashdown’s Time to Thrill, the Whippet, GCH CH Sporting Fields Shameless, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Cambria’s Vraiment Parfait, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab’s Bayleigh Maid of Honor, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country Tag I’m It, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

His Best was the Poodle, Flame, and his Reserve was the Doberman, Zsa Zsa.  Flame is the country’s Number One Non-Sporting Dog with five BIS and 13 Non-Sporting Groups this year.

The Rockland County Kennel Club had the favored Saturday spot in Suffern NY and judge Robert Caswell had the BIS call. The seven hoping to take home the big points were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Pebwin Hocus Pocus, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Shabini’s Johnnie Walker Blue, the Great Dane, GCH GHDD Seamus Lord Of The Dance, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH Crispy Legacy, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Yarrow’s Hi-Tech Ben There Done That, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Rockydell Hotschott, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Ha’Penny Mirimar The Fab Fawn.

The BIS went to the Beardie, Fawn, and the RBIS to the Golden, Samantha. It was the second BIS in three final appearances this year for Fawn and handler Greg Strong.

The week’s biggest prize was Saturday’s Silver Bay Kennel Club of San Diego show with nearly 1900 entries. Judge Wendy Paquette’s seven hopefuls were the Brittany, GCH CH Britt’s Ramblin The Perfect Cut, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek’s Limited Edition, the Akita, GCH CH Redwitch Adrenelin Junkie, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH Roundtown Everyday Magic Of Maryscot, the Pekingese, GCH CH Dunkirk Imagine That, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Highwood’s Big Shot, and the Australian Cattle Dog, GCH CH Kokopelli’s SoBe It. 

 Her BIS was the Frenchie and her RBIS was the Bloodhound. It was the first BIS since 2011 for the six year old Frenchie. Congratulations to breeder/handler Perry Payson and breeder/ owner Alexandra Vorbeck.

There was drama in Chicago and thrills in Tallahassee on Saturday, but the biggest points were on the West Coast.  In Albany OR the day two show of the Linn County Kennel Club drew almost 1800 dogs.  The seven dogs asking judge Randy Garren for the points were the Golden Retriever, GCH CH  Goodtime’s Sweet Talkin’ Guy, the Saluki, GCH CH Miriah’s Sunday Silence, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Topaz Bad action, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo’s Save Hjour Love For Me, the Havanese, GCH CH Peluito’s Papa Chulo, the Keeshond, GCH CH Skyline’s Unit Of Measure, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Pennyshire Solid Alibi.

The dog getting all those points was the Cairn, Lexie.  The dog getting the RBIS photo op was the Keeshond, Cubit.  It was the second BIS in six final appearances for Lexie, who also has an RBIS from the Rose City Classic to her credit this year.

MINPIN ONE BIS CLOSER TO RECORD

GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare 

While many fanciers were focused on the show down in Chicago between AKC’s top two dogs, Toy Dog aficionados were focused on the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, in Tallahassee FL. Classie picked up her third BIS of the stop Saturday, putting her one BIS closer to the all-time Toy Dog record.

The Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, continued his assault on the record books with his third straight Best In Show.  The latest came at the prestigious Saturday show of the International Kennel Club of Chicago.

Matisse was challenged for the win by the English Setter, GCH CH Stargazer ‘N Wingfield Wait Wait Don’t Tell, the Otter Hound, GCH CH Aberdeens Under The Influence, the Irish Terrier, GCH CH Sarob’s Commander In Chief, the Maltese, GCH CH  Rhapsody N Cherubs Oh So Henry, the Schipperke, CH Beachviews Oops I Did It Again, and judge Sue Goldberg’s RBIS, the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Matisse’s 18^th BIS in 21 final appearances this year gives him the undisputed title of Number One Dog All Breeds for now.  How long he can hold it is another question.  The real issue is whether the race this year is already down to two dogs, Matisse and the aforementioned OES, Swagger.  We look forward to the big Louisville weekend in mid-March to see if any of our top dogs can close the gap between the top two and the rest of this year’s campaigners.HHhhhhhj
