At today’s Sun Maid Kennel Club Of Fresno in that San Joaquin Calley city judge Carolyn Herbel had her pick of the Field Spaniel, GCH CH Promenade Pay It Forward, the Basenji, GCH CH Jasiri-Sukari Win Tin Tin, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Alisaton Blackbird V Allure Beaulane, the Smooth Fox Terrier, GCH CH Absolutely Talk of the Town, the Chinese Crested, CH Kulana's Sh-Boom, the Dalmatian, GCH CH Saint Florian Literati's One N Only, and the Australian Cattle Dog, GCH CH Kokopelli's SoBe It.

The two she liked were the Cattle Dog, SoBe, and the smooth Fox, Taylor.  It’s the first BIS and first Herding Group of 2014 for SoBe.  Congratulations to breeder Heather Warn, owners Joyce Rowland & Kelli Watkins & Heather Warn & Cheryl Kurpas, and handler Kim Griffith.

Judge Sandra Walker wrapped it for the Great Barrington Kennel Club today in time for the Super Bowl kick off.  The last seven on the show grounds were the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Whippet, GCH DC Surrey Hill Silkrock Teenage Crime Spree At Mariner SC, the Bernese Mountain Dog, GCH CH Marben’s Ruffian, the Scottish Terrier, GCH CH McVan's To Russia With Love the Pekingese, GCH CH Yakee Easily Persuaded, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Ale Kai Viola on Fifth, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Classical's My Turn.

The two staying for the photos were her BIS winner, the IWS, Riley, and her RBIS winner, the Whippet with the long name and the long list of titles, Crime Spree.  Riley will be among our designated WWWs (Whom to Watch at Westminster) next week.  It was the second BIS in six final appearances this year for 2013’s Number One Sporting Dog

Saturday was day two in Phoenix and day two for the Sahuaro State Kennel Club to host.  Judge Gene Mills would see the Weimaraner, GCH CH Simpatico Equal Justice, the Treeing Walker Coonhound, CH Dry River’z Shattered Dreams, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Tiburon Arsenal, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Andover See-Z The Moment, the Chinese Crested Déjà Vu I Want a Talk About Me, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH  Rio Skye’s Flashback, and the Australian Shepherd, CH  Harmony Hills Say Yes To The Dress.

He would choose the Coonhound, Lenny, as his BIS and the Doberman, Gunner, as his RBIS.  Lenny becomes only the second Treeing Walker Coonhound to win a BIS.  The win was made even more remarkable by the fact that Lenny was piloted to the win by junior handler Jordan Confer.  Congratulations to Jordan, breeders Bonnie E Casner & Nancy Winton, and owner Kay Purchiss.

The single largest prize this week was Saturday’s Conyers Kennel Club Of Georgia show in Atlanta GA, with almost 2200 dogs entered.  The seven that fought their way to the final ring were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Telltale American Ride, the Whippet, GCH CH Ableaim Que The Music, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Goodtime Charlie, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Lionheart’s Fortune Five Hundred, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

Grabbing the big rosette and all those points was the Skye, Charlie.  Picking up his second RBIS of the year was the PWD, Matisse.  It’s the second of the year for Charlie and handler Larry Cornelius.  We finished last week with three Terriers in the Top Ten Dogs All Breeds.  This win could put Charlie ahead of all of them.

It’s Super Bowl Sunday and dog fanciers, like all Americans, will turn their attention to New Jersey’s Meadowlands MetLife Stadium later today.  However, we will stay focused on the dog world for now.  Yesterday in ocean front Wildwood NJ the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir, made it two in a row, taking the BIS at the Boardwalk Kennel Club Of Cape May County show.

Challenging Ryder for the win were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Legacy Random Titleist, the Akita, GCH CH CR-Wicca’s Trade Secret, the Colored Bull Terrier, GCH CH Banbury Bedrock Bright Star Bright, the Papillon, GCH CH InVolo Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’, judge Alice Watkins’ RBIS, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Rinchen’s Blazing Black Icon, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Grandgables, The Frat Boy.
