TWO SPLIT-VENUE WEEKENDS IN NY

We return to the Northeast for our first report today and the results from the Chester Valley Kennel Club & Lancaster Kennel Club shows held May 10-12.  The CVKC kicked off the weekend in Ludwigs Corner PA on Friday.  Showing up for Paul Wilhauck’s final on Friday were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Cerise Dixieland Duchess, the American Foxhound, GCH CH Kiarry’s Pandora’s Box, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression de Matisse, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Yarrow Venerie Ticket to Ride, the Pug, GCH CH Hill Country Tag I’m It, the Miniature Poodle, GCH CH Bellefleets Living In The Fast Lane, and the Shetland Sheepdog, GCH CH Solange Significant.

Walking away with the BIS & RBIS were the Country’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Portie, Matisse, and the Number Nine Dog, the Pug, JJ.    Matisse has some ground to make up on the Number One Dog, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, who had a 9,000 point lead going into May.

Day two’s final found the same Foxhound, Pug, Mini Poodle, & Sheltie in the ring with judge Charlotte McGowan.  Joining them were the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the Akita, GCH CH CR Wicca’s Trade Secret, and the Colored Bull Terrier, GCH CH Banbury Bedrock Bright Star Bright. 

Her top two were the Bull Terrier, YumYum, and the Pug, JJ.  It’s the first of for YumYum, who was the BOV at both the 2012 Montgomery County Kennel Club show and the 2013 Westminster Kennel Club Show.  Congratulations to breeders/owners R G Lamkins & Karin Lamkins & W E Mackay-Smith and owner Mary Remer.

In the grand tradition frequently found in the region, the split venue, exhibitors packed up and caravanned  60 miles further away to Lebanon PA for Sunday’s Lancaster Kennel Club show.  There they found judge Ann Hearn in the final ring with the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, GCH CH Chesastar Hudson Bay RN, the previously seen Foxhound, Jewel, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Alisaton Blackbird v Allure Beaulane, the Airedale, GCH CH Joval’s Angel’s whisper, the Pug, JJ, the aforementioned Mini Poodle, Laney, and the Briard, GCH CH Deja Vu Mia Cool As A Cucumber. 

Redeeming his frequent traveler miles was the Pug, JJ, taking home the big rosette.   The Foxhound, Jewel, would take the Reserve ribbon back home.  JJ is the nation’s Number One Pug, Number Two Toy Dog, and, as we stated earlier, the Number Nine Dog All Breeds with six BIS this year.

When our home base was Brooklyn NY we looked forward to our weekends out on the Island (that’s Long Island, for those not from the area).  This past weekend the spilt venue belonged to the Ladies Kennel Association of America and the Long Island Kennel Club.  The LKCA opted for the show grounds in Oyster Bay NY.  Friday they asked judge Gary Andersen to take the opening day final.  The seven dogs asking for his consideration were the German Shorthaired Pointer, CH Starfield's Army Strong V Bulkley JH, the Bloodhound, GCH CH The Magpie's Sophisticated Lady, the Samoyed, GCH CH McMagic Mojo’s, the Miniature Schnauzer, CH Joker Land's Glacyka FCI, the Papillon, GCH CH Wildfire on the Edge, the Bulldog, GCH CH Cherokee Legend Cowboy, and the above named Briard, Dill.

Taking home the day one BIS was the Briard, Dill.  RBIS went to the Sammie, Mojo.  We have seen a number of beautiful Briards this Year.  Dill is the Number One Briard with three BIS and 17 Herding groups this year.

The following day it was Dill, the same Schnauzer, and Papillon, the Golden Retriever,  CH Shyan's Let Freedom Ring, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Exlysta Aries Ciel Noir, the Boxer, CH Jacquet's Anne El Encanto, and the Standard Poodle, CH L'Paige Islands In The Stream.    The two judge Shorn Lyons preferred were the Afghan, Ryder, and the Golden, Lincoln.

Ryder would do it all over again the next day in Bethpage NY with the LIKC and judge Joan Scott.  Judge Scott would also like the previously seen Bulldog,  Cowboy, as her RBIS.  Rounding out her seven were the now familiar Golden, Boxer, Papillon, & Mini Poodle,  and the rough Collie, CH Milas Latin Fever

The wins were the first two this year for Ryder who also has eight Hound Groups to his credit in 2013.  Congratulations  to breeders/owners Perry Rooks & Christine Anderson-Smith, owner/handler & Phil Schafmayer, and owner Sharon Ferraro.

SEVEN DAYS IN MAY IN WISCONSIN

There have been seven all breed shows this month in Wisconsin.  The first weekend the Badger Kennel Club and the Janesville-Beloit Kennel Club teamed up for three shows in Jefferson.  Pat Mowbray-Morgan had the opening final on Friday and her pick of the American Water Spaniel, GCH CH Waterway Game Crk Hot Diggity JH, the Smooth Dachshund, Speechless Kinders In It To Win It, the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Kenro’s Witching Hour, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Broxden Waybroke Halstan Heritage, the Papillon, CH Wingssong Here We Go Again, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the Briard, CH Caleidoscope De L'Heureux.  Her Best was the Giant, Dora, and her Reserve was the Papillon, Noah.

Dora and Noah would return the following day to see judge Beverly Speich along with the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeens Under The Influence, the same AWS, Smooth Fox, Roy, & Bichon, and the German Shepherd Dog, Celeste Of Ro Anne-Isle.

She would like the Otterhound, DUI, and the AWS, Digger.  Just last month we were talking about how rarely Otterhounds get the big rosette.  Now DUI has two this year.

Sunday judge Dr Daniel Fleitas would consider  the Flat-Coated Retriever, CH Shannara’si Boston Legal, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Elmo's Martian Chronicles, the Giant, Dora, the Smooth Fox, Roy, the Papillon, Nathan, the Boston Terrier, GCH CH Gunther's Gussied Up Edna, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Riverside Get Over It.

He would choose the Giant, Dora, and the Corgi, Gigi, as his BIS and RBIS.  The two wins are the fourth and fifth of the year  for Dora and handler Amy Booth.

The following weekend the Wisconsin action was in Eau Claire.  Making it to the day one final were the AWS, Digger, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Newfoundland, CH Pouch Cove's Seabrook Enough Said, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH We-Syng Royal Etiquette, the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Dawin Hearts on Fire, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Spiritwood’s Gandalph The Blue.

Judge Cindy Meyer’s Best was the Russell, Bosse, and her Reserve was the Afghan, Matrix.  Bosse, the only Russell to ever win an AKC BIS, has seven this year.

Sunday Lou Guerrero would see six of Saturday’s finalists and the Mastiff,  GCH CH Millenniums Moonshine.  He would choose the Standard Poodle, Flame as his Best, and the Russell, Bosse, as his Reserve.  Flame is yet another great Standard Poodle brought to us by breeder/owner Linda Campbell and handler Sarah Perchick.  It was the fifth big rosette of the year for Flame & Sarah.

This past weekend Wisconsin exhibitors headed for Oshkosh for the Oshkosh Kennel Club show and the Winnegamie Kennel Club show.  The OKC final was in the hands of Houston Clark.  Judge Clark chose from the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Summits Emery It's In The Bag, the Basenji, Laurel S'Simply Shocking Sabrina, the Rottweiler, CH Redfield's Itz My Tyme RN, the Australian Terrier, GCH CH Dunham Lake Scout Master, the Miniature Pinscher, CH Ems Jet Star, the Keeshond, GCH CH Trumpet's Winner Takes It All, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Lambluv Elmknolls Dream Girl.

His top two were the Golden, Chloe, and the Keeshond, Ace.  Chloe is the nation’s Number One Golden with five BIS in 17 final appearances this season.

Yesterday judge Alane Gomez was in the final ring with the English Setter, GCH CH Aerden’s Pretty in Pink JH, the Basset Hound, GCH CH Olde Fashion Affare D’Amore Italiano, same Rottweiler & Australian Terrier, the Pomeranian, GCH CH Tab’s Scootin Boomer of Storm, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Ri-Lees’s Stellar Performance, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Celeste Of Ro Anne-Isle.

Best went to the English Setter, KiKi, and Reserve to the Australian Terrier, Scout.  It’s the sixth career BIS and the first this year for KiKi and owner/handler Vito Ciaravino.   The win makes KiKi the first English Setter Bitch with a hunting title to win an AKC Best In Show.  Congratulations to Vito, breeders/owners Laurie Engel & Rose Miller, and owner Brian Silbernagel.

MONDAY MORNING MOP UP

We start our Monday Morning Mop Up with reports from around the South.  First we go to Perry GA where the Columbus Kennel Club, the Southeast Alabama Kennel Club, & the Macon Kennel Club collaborated on fours shows a week ago.   The KC was up first on Thursday and they asked judge Barbara Dempsey Alderman to take the day one final.  She chose her Best and Reserve from the English Setter, GCH CH Lochlomond's Wrapped Up In You JH, the Afghan Hound, GCH CH Tells Matrix Reloaded, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Snowmist's Quidditch Seeker, the Wire Fox Terrier, GH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Glenleigh Gang's 'N Roses and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Daisies N Dreams Master Sebastian.

Judge Alderman gave the MinPin, Classie, the BIS, and the Wire Fox, Sky, the RBIS.    The win would be Classie’s first of three for the set.  The following day judge Linda More would prefer Classie over her RBIS, the Welsh Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Trystyn Statesman Cactus Blue, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Lokavi´s Battle Flag Of The South, the same Siberian, Seeker, the Wire Fox Sky, the previously seen Bichon, Governor, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker’s Topsy Turvey.

Saturday Classie would watch the Italian Greyhound, GCH CH Wyson Swan Princess, advance to the final ring where judge Arley Hussin would choose the aforementioned Welsh Springer, Maddux, as his Best and the Bichon, Governor, as his Reserve, while the Bluetick Coonhound, GCH CH Charwin Fairmont Sweet Society Blue Snuff, the Siberian, Seeker, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab Bayleigh Maid of Honor, and the now familiar Puli, Charlotte watched.

Sunday Classie was back to accept the big rosette from Joe Gregory who also chose the Puli, Charlotte, as his Reserve.  Rounding out the final were the Weimaraner, GCH CH Doc N Camelot's Heaven Can Wait, the Coonhound, Snuffy, the Great Dane, GCH CH Longo Miller N Lore's Diamond Lil, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Camcrest Andsurely Jasmine, and the Bichon, Governor.

The three BIS brings Classie’s 2013 take  to 24 BIS this year.  More importantly, it puts her in a dead heat with the Number Two Dog All Breeds.

This weekend Classie was back in her native Florida for the Inverness Florida Kennel Club’s two shows in Brooksville.  Saturday Classie would be joined in judge Judith Franklin’s final  by the Weimaraner, GCH CH Rissana Hillwood's Perfect Crime, the Smooth Dachshund, CH Passport Boy You’re One of My Kind SS, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Mileka's Belle Starr, the Skye Terrier, GCH CH Cragsmoor Good Time Charlie, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Overtops And The Winner Is, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Wynward's Remember That.   Best would go to the Skye, Charlie, and Reserve was reserved for the Siberian, Belle Star.

Charlie would do it all over again the next day, this time with judge Charles Olvis, going BIS while Classie went RBIS.  Also vying for an award were the Golden Retriever, CH Ingot's K9 Connection, the Saluki, GCH CH Hediyeh Uriela Priya Bat Yosef JC (Is it just us, or are there not beautiful Salukis everywhere you turn these days?), the Rottweiler, GCH CH Avatar Summer Storm Chaser RN, the above named Bichon, LJ, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, CH Telltail Like A Rolling Stone.

These are the first BIS for Charlie, the latest beautiful Skye from breeders/owners Eugene Z Zaphiris & Matthew H Stander and handler Larry Cornelius.  Congratulations to them all.

Meanwhile, over in Manassas VA the Mattaponi Kennel Club would put John Wade in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Cerise Sentinel, the Bloodhound, GCH CH Flessner's International S'Cess, the Akita, GCH CH CR Wicca’s Trade Secret, the Miniature Schnauzer, CH Blythewood Lovely Gigolette, the Pekingese, GCH CH Yakee’s Easily Persuaded, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing Tenzin, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Masquerade Mikey Likes It.

His Best was the Peke, Rodger, and his Reserve was the Tibbie,   It’s the fourth this year for Rodger and owner/handler David Fitzpatrick.

Stephanie Hedgepath had the judge’s book on Sunday and the Irish Setter, GCH CH Cairncross Concierge with Tullane, the same Bloodhound, Nathan, the Boxer, GCH CH Hi Tech The King of Sherry Shoot Jp, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Yarrow Venerie Ticket to Ride, the Peke, Rodger, the Tibbie, Tenzin, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Nchanted Silk Lining.

BIS& RBIS went to the Bloodhound, Nathan, and the Tibbie, Tenzin.  It’s the first Best for Nathan and handler Heather Helmer.  Congratulations to Heather, breeders Bryan & Chris Flessner & Heather Buehner, and owners Shirley VanCamp, Heather Buehner,  & Zack Helmer.

Cross the state line in Gray TN, the Greater Kingsport Kennel Club was set up for the weekend.  Dr Linda Fowler had the day one final and the company of the Weimaraner, GCH CH Poets Bossa Nova Baby, the Greyhound, GCH CH GrandCru Orion With Mistweave, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Tugar's Taking On Tyson, the Parson Russell Terrier, GCH CH Foxbend Colour Me More, the Pug, GCH CH Caper’s Sirius Endeavor,  the Standard Poodle, GCH CH Luminary Black Velvet Bejeweled With Pearls, and the Australian Shepherd, Nightstars Unchained Mel O Dee.

Taking home the day one BIS was the Parson, Heidi.  Collecting the RBIS was the  Greyhound, Buster.     It’s the first BIS in three final appearances this year for Heidi and owner/ handler  Dana Bryson-Benn.  Congratulations to Dana, breeders S & D Crawford , and owners Kiki Courtelis & Joyce Wilkinson.

Sunday a different Terrier finished with the big rosette, the Welsh Terrier, GCH CH Shaireab Bayleigh Maid of Honor.  Reserve went to the Standard Poodle, Pearl.  Also trying to persuade judge Joan Goldstein to give them the win were the Irish Water Spaniel, CH Waterford’s Anything You Sant, the Wirehaired Dachshund, GCH CCH  Rags N Montvues The Midnight Flasher , the same Malamute, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Orchard Hill Only Human, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Mockingbird Elyan Magic Moment HSAd HSBd.

GREAT LAKES FOUR

We return to the Great Lakes region for our next reports.  First up, the Progressive Dog Club Of Wayne County who were in Birch Run MI April 27th & 28th for their two shows.  Saturday ended with the English Setter, GCH CH Stargazr'n Wingfield Time Will Tell, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Tioka's American Ride, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Protocol’s Veni Vidi Vici, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, the Yorkshire Terrier, GCH CH Trio’s Big Shot, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Karizma’s Ike of Edale.

Robert Hutton’s BIS was the GSD, Ike, and his RBIS, was the Yorkie, Billy.  It was the second BIS in 13 final appearances for Ike and handler Lenny Brown.

Sunday judge Suzanne Dillin greeted Ike & the same Setter, Russell, & Bichon, the Norwegian Elkhound, GCH CH Silhouette’s Kaboom, the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Kenro’s Witching Hour, and the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Tamarin Tanner. Her Best was the Setter, Trevor, and her Reserve was the Affenpinscher, Tanner.  Trevor is the Number One English Setter is the US with two BIS and 13 Sporting groups.

Last weekend the action was in Tallmadge OH with the Ravenna Kennel Club.  Judge Merle Taylor had the opening day final and her choice of the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Nonnies No Doubt, the Smooth Dachshund, GCH CH Grandgables Ms French Kiss, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek Impression de Matisse, the West Highland White Terrier, Devonshire Out Of The Starting Gate, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Burbrook Storm Chaser, the Standard Poodle, Dassin Hillwood Del Shannon, and the Briard, GCH CH Lightning Strike El Xargall. 

The two she liked were the four year old Cocker and the seven month old Dachshund.  It’s the first this year for the Cocker, Stevie, and his second career Best.  Congratulations to breeder Vickie Umpleby, Jo Gerrish, and handler Tony Vacha.

Sunday’s final featured Timothy Robbins with an all new seven, the Golden Retriever, CH Shyan's Let Freedom Ring, the above named Elkhound, the Siberian Husky, GCH CH Snowmist's Quicksilver Speigas, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Broxden Waybroke Halstan Heritage, the Smooth Coat Chihuahua, GCH CH South Fork's Sweet Harmony, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing Tenzin, and the Pyrenean Shepherd, GCH CH La Brise Sun Bear.
