INTRODUCING

As we pack our bags for Orlando and this weekend’s AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, we have news about our participation in an exciting new show site, Best In Show Daily (BISD).  BISD promises to provide a rich online publication for the dog show community that is fresh, lively, and full of good editorial, up-to-the minute features.  BISD will  provide a premier online experience showcasing the living work of art which is the purebred dog.

We will be contributing stories to BISD and will do a daily column, The Back Story, a more opinionated and in depth look at the dog show world from our perspective.  Best In Show Daily will officially premier along with the first dog shows of the New Year, the Kennel Club of Palm Springs shows.   Palm Springs is one of the most glamorous stops of the year and this year we will be there covering all the action along with BISD.

In the meantime you can go over to the BISD site for a sneak peek to get a taste of what it is like and what you will see from yours truly.  So if you just can’t get enough of the dog show world, come on over to Best In Show Daily and see how much fun you can have.

We are down to the last week of the show year and this year ends with a gigantic bang with the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (AENC) on Saturday & Sunday in Orlando FL.  With almost 3800 dogs in the regular competition, the most avid dog show enthusiast will be able to get their quota of  canine competition.  The main event is preceded by three days of all breed competition.  We’ve already given you a report on today’s Space Coast Kennel Club Of Palm Bay show which drew more than 2700 dogs.  It will be followed by tomorrow’s Brevard Kennel Club event & Friday’s Central Florida Kennel Club competition.

There are shows elsewhere this weekend.  There will be big entries, though not nearly as large as Orlando’s, in Cleveland OH for the Lorain County Kennel Club, the Medina Kennel Club, the Richland County Kennel Club, the Western Reserve Kennel Club four shows starting tomorrow.  Down In Jackson MS, there will be one of the most hospitable gatherings (It’s the South, after all) you will find anywhere.  The Brandon Kennel Club Of Mississippi & the Mississippi State Kennel Club host four shows starting tomorrow.

Out in Long Beach CA, the site of last year’s AENC, the Kennel Club Of Beverly Hills, the Los Encinos Kennel Club, & the Long Beach Kennel Club will soldier on beginning Friday.  Finally, folks who have to work until the weekend can take in the Delaware Water Gap Kennel Club & the Lehigh Valley Kennel Club Saturday/Sunday offering in Allentown PA.

We will be Orlando this weekend.  So if you are there do stop and say hello to us and tell us what you want to see on Dog Show Poop in 2012.  If you can’t make it to Florida, take in one of the other shows for your last peek at all of this year’s crop of dogs.

The first BIS of the week went to the Ghost of Christmas Past, the Toy Poodle, Walker.  Walker was the Number Six Dog All Breeds in 2009 and the Number Twelve Dog All Breeds in 2010.  Among Walker's memorable wins were the Toy Groups at the 2009 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship and the 2010 at Westminster.  Our congratulations to breeder/owner Yukiko Omura and handler Toshi Omura.

Walker is only one of the great dogs from prior years we expect to see in Orlando.  We think this is going to be incredible finish to 2011!
