IT'S NUMBER 50 FOR CJ

We awake this morning to all sorts of interesting news. First from Providence RI, we hear that the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, has reached the 50 all breed BIS milestone.

CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton

Yesterday’s Eastern Dog Club win was especially memorable as it was judge Dr Robert A Indeglia who had given CJ her first Best In Show back on January 16th at the Tampa Bay Kennel Club’s show. Joining CJ and handler Carissa DeMIlta Shimpeno in Dr Indeglia’s ring yesterday were the English Setter, CH Reidwood Red Alert, Friday’s BIS winner, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Airedale Terrier, CH Stirling Skeandhu, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bicon Frise, CH Risgae Dutchess Of Wessex, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

CJ is the country’s number one Doberman, number one Working Dog, and number two dog all breeds. Quite a year for quite a girl!

We have a couple of BIS to report. From El Paso TX and the Onate Trail Dog Fanciers Association we hear that Arline Davis' Best In Show was the Wirehaired Dachshund, CH Gleneagle’s Who’s Famous Now. That’s Noah’s second this year and he is the number one Dachshund, all varieties. Noah was bred by Lisa Kennell & Carol Leggat, is owned by Ann Bischel & Chris Erickson, and handled by Angela Lloyd. Congratulation’s to them all.

CH Mondrian VH Lamslag RE

Meanwhile up in cold, cold St Cloud MN, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, CH Mondrian VH Lamslag RE, was adding another BIS to his resume as number one Cavalier, taking the top prize at today‘s Granite City Kennel Club of St. Cloud, Minnesota under Elaine Mathis. Mondrian was owner handled, by Janet York as always, to his fifth this year.

MALAMUTE IN NORTH CAROLINA

From Winston-Salem NC we have results from today’s Forsyth Kennel Club day one show.

CH Nanuke’s Still The One

Roger Hartinger’s lineup included the English Setter. CH Honeygait Wilsonlake On The Rocks, the Greyhound, CH Grandcru Clos Erasmus, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Nanuke’s Still The One, the American Staffordshire Terrier, CH Wonderlands Heavily Armed Agitator, the Pekingese, CH Lin-Lee’s For The Good Times, the Shib Inu, CH Youko’s Chief Red eAgle, and the Rough Collie, CH Fantasy’s Rock Ledge Beginning.

And it was the country’s number eight Working Dog, the Malamute, Kimmy, picking up her eigth this year. Kimmy was bred by Sandra D'Andrea & Perry Hazelwood and is owned by Sandra and Steven Rich, Susan Rich & Grant George. Congratulations al around.

FAMILY RESEMBLANCE

CH Seasyde Dobe's Den in Fashion

We received a BIS report earlier this afternoon from Gettysburg PA where the Chambersburg Area Kennel Club gave us a single show. Sam Houston McDonald’s choice for Best In Show was the Pointer, CH Seasyde Dobe's Den in Fashion. It was the first BIS for the two year old bitch. “Vera” was bred by Helyne Medeiros, Daniel Breim & Matinas Suzuki, and is owned by Helyne and Jennifer & Darren Pahl. It was Jennifer who handled Vera to the win. Our congratulations.

CH Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry

And, yes, that’s the same Helyne Medeiros that gave us the fabulous Pointer, CH Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry, 2008’s number two dog all breeds and the winner of the 2008 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship. Holly is Vera’s older half sister, sharing the same sire, multiple BIS & BISS winner, CH Bee Serious Lord Jim JH. Can you see the family resemblance?

AND...THEY'RE OFF, IN CALIFORNIA

They’ve thrown out the first pitch in our California ten day marathon. Today’s event in Costa Mesa was the day one show of the Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association Of Orange County.

CH Dawin Spitfire

Kent Delaney’s final introduces us to many of the players we will see over the next fortnight. Today they were the Golden Retriever, CH Toasty’s Treasure Island, the Whippet, CH Sporting Field’s Bahama Sands, the Boxer, CH Duba Dae’s Who’s Your Daddy, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Bugaboo’s Georgie Girl.

We believe this may have been the Poodle’s first west coast appearance this year and what a coming out party it was, as the black Standard, Jetta, walked away with the set’s first top prize. Jetta, born in Canada and based in Florida, gives us a glimpse of the coming gathering of the best dogs in the world. For we dog folks, it’s like getting to open Christmas presents twice.

BOYS' NIGHT OUT

Handler Amy Booth stayed home with a cold this weekend and sent husband and handling partner Phil, to Winston-Salem NC, with her dogs, including, the nation’s number two Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice. It seems Phil and Dodger are enjoying their boys' night out, as they walked away with today BIS at the weekend opener of the Greater Hickory Kennel Club.

Also in Judy Harrington’s final were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Kismet Special Edition, the Greyhound, CH Grandcru Clos Erasmus, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Taolanquest Sharp Dress’d Man, the Pug, CH Ivanwold Diva At Riversong, the Chinese Shar-Pei, CH Vaje’s Miss Jayne Hathaway, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Kridler's Nutmeg V Signature.

Phil and Dodger have made only one other final seven appearance together. You guessed it. They went Best in that one too. Sometimes guys just gotta have fun.

SOOO CLOSE TO THE TOP TEN

Jane Forsyth had command of the final ring today in Providence RI at the Ladies Dog Club’s show.

CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle

She saw several of yesterday’s finalists, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins. Making their first appearance of the weekend were the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbars Hart To Hart, and the Samoyed, CH Pebbels’ Run Hammy Davis JR, who had left yesterday‘s BIS winner, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, back in the Working Group with a second place ribbon today.

The big dog of the day was the biggest dog, the Wolfhound, Tip. In the last week Tip has risen from the 17th ranked dog all breeds to the twelfth ranked dog on the strength of one BIS win. This win, his 18th this year, will put him in the eleventh spot just outside the coveted top ten. We should note that Tip, the Bulldog, Uli, and the Lab, RJ, are the 11th, 12th, & 13th ranked dogs all breed, respectively, at least as of today. We did tell you that this was going to be a very interesting four days.

RHODE ISLAND FINALISTS

CH Fireside‘s Spontaneous Combustion

Here’s the rest of the finalists from yesterday’s Middlesex County Kernnel Club’s show. Joining BIS winner, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, in Sari Brewster Tietjen’s ring were the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, CH Fireside‘s Spontaneous Combustion, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway Fan, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Bearded Collie, CH Tolkien Raintree Mister Baggins.

Among the top 25 dogs left out of the final were the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart (Group 3), and the Airedale, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke (BOB). We expect lots of excitement in Providence RI this weekend.

THE PERFECT DOGGY VACATION

Our travel agent tells us that the best vacation bargains all year are during that period between Thanksgiving and Christmas. A lot of businesses slow down their travel and a lot of people decide to stay closer to home during that time. However, if you want to take advantage of the bargains and mix a little dog addiction with your vacation, we have the perfect escape for you.

Malibu Shore Line

From Friday, December 4th through Sunday, December 13th, the world’s most glamorous dogs will gather in one of the world’s most glamorous spots, southern California’s Pacific Coast. The host clubs bear names evocative of that area’s Hollywood glitter (the Malibu Kennel Club and the Kennel Club of Beverly Hills), the area’s Mexican heritage (the Los Encinos Kennel Club), and the AKC’s premier event, the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.

Rolls Royce on Rodeo drive in Beverly Hills

It’s the AKC’s 125th anniversary and more than 4,000 dogs will come from around the world to participate in the two day festivities, December 12th & 13th at the Long Beach Convention Center. We anticipate that the warm up events will benefit from the AKC’s larger than usual entry. The run will start 30 miles down the Pacific Coast Highway in Costa Mesa where the Shoreline Dog Fanciers Association Of Orange County will hold sway for the first two days, followed by the Malibu Kennel Club’s two shows.

Long Beach Convention Center

They will break for a day and start anew in Long Beach on Wednesday, the ninth, with the club from zip code 90210, the Kennel Club of Beverly Hills, and its single offering. The Los Encinos Kennel Club will move into the Convention Center Thursday and give us two shows. The marquee event begins Saturday and is scheduled to close at 11:00 PM PST Sunday.

That means much of the dog world will have to stay up into the wee hours of Monday morning to get the results. We will be there with our trusty netbook to give you all the results as they happen. What could be better than lolling on the beach, shopping on Rodeo Drive, and 4,000 of the most beautiful dogs anywhere? See you there!
