DAY TWO IN LUBBOCK TX

Judge Robert Schreve had today’s final for the Heart of the Plains Kennel Club show in Lubbock TX.  The seven who stayed all day to see him were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Hil-N-Don & Canyonwood Seemore Of Me, the 13” Beagle, GCH CH  Vinla-Cabaret’s Gold Standard, the Mastiff, GCH CH Willow Ridge Risky Business, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Carillon Chazzen De Hayyim, the Maltese, GCH CH Scylla Small Kraft Re-Lit, the American Eskimo Dog, GCH CH Ducat’s Smokin’ Hot, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Harmony Hill’s Money Talks.

Finishing one/two were the Aussie, Cash, and the Mastiff, Kruz.  It’s the second BIS in 18 final appearances this season for Cash and handler Leon Goetz.

Today’s Monroe (MI) Kennel Club show is one of the week’s largest prize with nearly 1700 dogs entered, the even dogs asking judged Michael Dougherty for all those points were the Irish Setter, GCH CH Bluerose Phatasmagorical, the Longhaired Dachshund, GCH CH Hundeleben Queen's Armada SL, the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Kenro’s Witching Hour, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, the Havanese, GCH CH Qbin’s Strictly Confidential at Enginuity, the Bulldog, GCH CH Mytoys Epic Against the Wind, and the Bouvier des Flandres, GCH CH Stonepillar Steel Blu.

His Best was AKC’s Number One Dog All Breeds, the Wire Fox, Sky, and the Number Four Dog, the Giant, Dora.  Sky now has a nearly 14,000 point lead on the rest of the field.

It’s day two in Millwood VA with the Warrenton Kennel Club.  Today’s seven finalists were the Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, GCH CH Pikkinokka's Lightning Bug, the Black & Tan Coonhound, GCH CH Foxfire Full Force Gale, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Blackhawk’s Finnegan’s Wake, the Sealyham Terrier, GCH CH Efbe’s Thunder Road at Burberry, the Miniature Pinscher, GCH CH Marlex Classic Red Glare, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing’s Tenzin, and the Finnish Lapphund, GCH  CH Lumiturpa Arvi.

Judge Bonnie Linnell Clarke’s top two were the Tibbie, Tenzin, and the MinPin, Classie.  Tenzin and handler Diego Garcia have turned on the afterburners the last month, collecting three of his five BIS this year in the last month.

Regular readers know that our first breed was the Maltese and, although we look supremely silly with in the ring with a Maltese, the breed still is near and dear to us.  The Maltese, GCH CH Scylla’s Small Kraft Re-Lit, was Dr Steve Keating’s BIS at yesterday’s Heart of the Plains Kennel Club show in Lubbock TX.

Joining Hank and handler Tara Martin Rowell in the final ring were the RBIS, the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Hil-N-Don & Canyonwood Seemore Of Me, the 13” Beagle, Vinla-Cabaret’s Gold Standard, the Tibetan Mastiff, GCH CH Drakyi Lion of Judah, the Scottish Terrier, CH Kingsview Just Ebony, the Chinese Shar-Pei, GCH CH Jade East Do You Know the Way to San Jose, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Harmony Hill’s Money Talks.

Hank is the country’s Number One Maltese and Number Seven Toy Dog with five BIS and 36 Toy Groups to his credit this year.

The Old English Sheepdog and Colorado native, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect, made it two in a row taking Friday’s BIS at the Grand Valley Kennel Club show in Grand Junction CO.  Judge Keke Kahn also like the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration with Traddles, whom she gave the RBIS.

Rounding out her seven finalists were the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, the Akita, GCH CH Stardust's See You At The Show, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Dytona VIP, the Affenpinscher, GCH CH Tamarin Tarheel, and the Schipperke, GCH CH Bonchien Cedric the Entertainer.

We remind you that the OES, Swagger, is the nation’s Number One Herding Dog and the Number 15 Dog all Breeds (up three spots in the last month) with 13 BIS and 36 Herding Groups.

ROMULUS NY DAY TWO

Judge Elliot Weiss had the final at today’s Kanadasaga Kennel Club show on the second day of the Wine country Circuit in Romulus NY.  The seven he considered were the Irish Water Spaniel, GCH CH Whistlestop’s Riley on Fire, the 15” Beagle, GCH CH Daniel Boon Pelaez, the Newfoundland, GCH CH Rosewood's Royal Flush, the Bedlington Terrier, GCH CH Lamz Heads I Win Tails you Lose, the Pekingese, GCH CH Yakee Easily Persuaded, the Shiba Inu, GCH CH Dengar Swiper No Swiper, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

Finishing one/two were the IWS, Riley, and the Peke, Rodger.  Riley, one of three BIS winning littermates, is the Number One Irish Water Spaniel and the Number Three Sporting Dog with 14 BIS and 48 Sporting Groups in 2013.

MILLWOOD VA DAY ONE

AKC’s Number Two Dog All Breeds, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, was in Romulus NY yesterday collecting his 61st BIS of the year.  Today he was in Millwood VA accepting the big rosette from judge Eric Ringle at the Warrenton Kennel Club’s day one show.

Judge Ringle also considered the Welsh Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Trystyn Statesman Cactus Blue, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, GCH CH Raquel Welch of Malabo APD, the Norwich Terrier, GCH CH Highwood’s Whirling Dun, the Toy Poodle, GCH CH Smash Jp Sakura, his RBIS, the Tibetan Spaniel, GCH CH Kan Sing’s Tenzin, and the Bearded Collie, GCH CH Ha’Penny Mirimar The Fab Fawn.

Today’s win puts Matisse 758 points closer to the Number One Dog.

First in today with results in the Suffolk County Kennel Club who held their first of two shows this weekend in St James NY on Long Island.  Today’s final was in the hands of judge Carol Beattie who chose her top two from the Gordon Setter, GCH CH Sandpiper's Castles In The Air, the Saluki, CH Gemini Julia, the Giant Schnauzer, GCH CH Ramahill Absolutes I Am Legend Of RW, the Airedale Terrier, GCH CH Joval Angel’s Whisper, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Piccadil's Twist And Shout, the Standard Poodle, CH L’Paige Islands in the Stream, and the Smooth Collie, GCH CH Fashions Glamourus Gal.

Her Best was the Airedale, Wispa, her Reserve, the Gordon, Flyer.  Wispa is the country’s Number One Airedale Terrier with three BIS and 28 Terrier Groups this year.

The very energetic Grand Valley Kennel Club is hosting four all breed shows this week in Grand Junction CO.  They kicked it off yesterday and asked judge Judith Brown to choose the day one BIS and RBIS.  Her options were all previous BIS winners, the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaboration with Traddles, the Saluki, GCH CH Sandstorm Blue Nile Bubbles of Jatara, the Akita, GCH CH Stardust's See You At The Show, the Miniature Bull Terrier, GCH CH Dytona VIP, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, GCH CH Miletree Northern Star at Shirmont, the Bulldog, GCH CH Newcomb's Pandemonium @ Beda, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

Her Best was the OES, Swagger, and her Reserve, was the Saluki, Bubbles.  It’s the twelfth  BIS in 35 final appearances this year for the nation’s Number One Herding Dog.

Our show week began yesterday in upstate New York, in the town of Romulus NY.  The Onondaga Kennel Association opened the four day Wine Country Circuit, putting judge Anne Katona in the final ring.  The cluster has the week’s largest entries, nearly 7000 dogs entered in the regular classes.

The seven she saw were the Chesapeake Bay Retriever, GCH CH Chesastar Hudson Bay RN, the 15” Beagle, Daniel Boon Pelaez, the Portuguese Water Dog, GCH CH Claircreek’s Impression de Matisse, the Norfolk Terrier, GCH CH Yarrow Venerie Ticket to Ride, the Pekingese, GCH CH Yakee Easily Persuaded, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Wildrose Raisin' The Stakes, and the Puli, GCH CH Cordmaker Topsy Turvey.

The two she chose were her BIS, the Portie, Matisse, and her RBIS, the Beagle, Spyder.  Matisse is the nation’s Number One Working Dog and Number two Dog All Breeds with 61 BIS and 95 Working Groups.  A good performance this weekend could make a major dent in the Number One Dog’s lead.

NUMBER ONE GETS ONE MORE

We return to the Mountain Time Zone for our last report from last weekend.  The Helena Montana Kennel Club had the Saturday/Sunday spots for their hometown shows.  Day one’s final featured judge Norman Patton in the final ring with the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Hil-N-Don & Canyonwood Seemore Of Me, the 13” Beagle, GCH CH Bougain'e Naughty-N-Lovely Alvin, the Akita, CH Redwitch Adrenaline Junkie, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Hjohoo's Save Hjour Love For Me, the Pug, GCH CH Moonstruck's Smooth Sailing, the Chow Chow, GCH CH Padow's Too Hot To Handle, and the Bearded Collie, CH Scott Ragtyme You Are The Music In Me.

Taking home the big rosette was the Pug.  Grabbing the Reserve ribbon was the Chow.  It’s the first BIS in six final appearances this year for the Pug, Sailor.  Congratulations to breeder Melissa Standish, owner Randy Brewer, and handler Shea Skinner.

Sunday Sailor and Shea would be back to plead their case to BIS judge Christine Salyers Anderson along with the aforementioned Beagle, Akita, & Chow.  Joining them were the Clumber Spaniel, GCH CH Clussexx Collaborations with Traddles, the Wire Fox Terrier, GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky, and the Australian Cattle Dog, CH Psycht's Unforgiving Minute HIC BN.

Sailor would play bridesmaid to 2013’s undisputed queen, the Wire Fox, Sky.  Sky is the US’ Number One Dog All Breeds with 57 BIS and a seriously dominating 105 Terrier Groups.  Sky will be the odds on favorite at next week’s Montgomery County Kennel Club show.

Before we start on today’s results let’s give you the reports we missed from last week.  First from Prospect PA, we bring you Sunday’s Butler County Kennel Club show.  Lawrence Sinclair was the  BIS judge and the English Springer Spaniel, CH Cerise Starlight Express, the Treeing Walker Coonhound, GCH CH Alexanders Gold Rush Xcetera, the Black Russian Terrier, GCH CH Valkyrie's Funny Girl RN, the Sealyham Terrier, GCH CH Efbe's Thunder Rd At Burberry, a Pomeranian from the classes, Magicz I Wanna Be King of Lenette, the Standarde Poodle, GCH CH Ale Kai Hillwood Celebration, and the Briard, GCH CH Deja Vu Mia Cool As A Cucumber, were his finalists.

Down in Deland FL judge Lewis Bayne had the closer for the West Volusia Kennel Club and his pick of the Vizsla, GCH CH Regal Point Pinnacle Of Kilauea JH, the Smooth Dachshund, GCH CH Passport Boy You're One Of My Kind SS, the Rottweiler,  CH Big Beach's You're The One For Me, the Australian Terrier, CH Temora Ri Diercc, the Havanese, CH Yup’s Malibu Dream, the Tibetan Terrier, GCH CH Kan Sing’s Tenzin, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Aussbern Premier Ticket Of Myshara.

Finishing one/two were the Tibbie, Tenzin, and the Dachshund, Edgar.  It was the second in a row for Tenzin, the Number Eight Dog in the Standard Poodle dominated Non-Sporting Group.  Tenzin now has five BIS and 41 Group Ones to his credit this year.

Last week we had the pleasure of dog shows in two different sites in the Mountain Time Zone, an area often without an AKC presence.

The Arapahoe Kennel Club chose Aurora CO for their two shows last weekend and asked judge Carol Spritzer to handle the Saturday final.  She chose her top two from the Golden Retriever, GCH CH Trance Mission JP Cunard Adventure, the Greyhound, Fionn Clann Crainne CGC, the Akita, GCH CH Stardust's See You At The Show, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Bay, the Maltese, GCH CH Scylla Small Kraft Re-Lit, the Schipperke, GCH CH Bonchien Cedric The Entertainer, and the Old English Sheepdog, GCH CH Bugaboo’s Picture Perfect.

It was the native son, the OES, Swagger, strutting to the BIS, while the elegant, little Maltese, Hank, took the RBIS.  Swagger is the country’s Number On Herding Dog with 11 BIS and 34 Herding Groups.

Dr Albert Bianchi would see the same Golden, Schnauzer,  Maltese, & Schipperke, along with the Bloodhound, GCH CH Quiet Creek’s Kiss and Tell, the Tibetan Mastiff, GCH CH Drakyi Lion of Judah, and the Border Collie, CH Kensington Dragon Heart.  He would choose the Schnauzer, Justin, and the Schipperke, Cedric, as his Best and Reserve.

RARE NEAPOLITAN MASTIFF BIS

This past weekend the Spirit Of The Heartland Kennel Club and the Jefferson County Kennel Club Of Missouri hosted their shows in one of the few venues in the US designed especially for dog shows, the Purina Farms complex in Gray Summit MO outside of St Louis.

The seven dogs that made judge Faye Strauss’ final on Saturday were the English Springer Spaniel, CH Cerise Dixieland Duchess, the Saluki, GCH CH Appalachia's Allamyrra Hajji, the Neapolitan Mastiff, GCH CH Ironwood's Papparazzi, the Standard Manchester Terrier, GCH CH Medley's War Hunt, the Brussels Griffon, GCH CH Fist Face A Penny For Your Thoughts, the French Bulldog, GCH CH Bandog's Major League Homerun At TX Star, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Wolf Creek Galaxy Of Merivern.

Finishing one/two were the Neapolitan and the Manchester.  It’s been a great year for Papparazzi and breeder/owner/handler James Deppen.  Paparazzi was the 2012 breed winner at the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship, breed winner at the 2013 Westminster Kennel Club show, and winner of last Saturday’s Neapolitan Mastiff Club of America’s National Specialty.  Saturday was the first Best In Show and Group One for Papparazzi, only the second Neapolitan to ever win a big rosette.  Congratulations to Jim, co-breeder Mimi Winkler, and owner Susan Vann-Spruill.

Only the Griff and Frenchie would make it back to judge Lee Brown’s final on Sunday.  They were joined by the Parti-Colored Cocker Spaniel, the Otterhound, GCH CH Aberdeen’s Under the Influence, the Great Dane. GCH CH Lobato’s Caught Red Handed, the Kerry Blue Terrier, GCH CH Ciarrai’s Beltane Embers, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Ciregna That’s Amore. 

The two he liked the best were the Great Dane and the Griff.  It’s the first for the not yet three year old Great Dane bitch.  Congratulations to breeders/owners Joy Lobato & Angela Stillwell, owner Leslie Hotchkiss, and handler Earl Shore.

GREAT DANE DOUBLE DOWN

Southern fanciers were in Anniston AL this weekend for the hometown Anniston Kennel Club’s two shows.  Enjoying the southern hospitality was the Great Dane from Ohio, GCH CH Longo Miller n Lore’s Diamond Lil HOF.  Scout and handler Laura Coomes returned to their home base in Summerfield FL with two more BIS to their credit.

Scout was judge James Noe’s Best on Saturday over the Golden Retriever, My Buddy's Eye Of The Beholder, his Reserve winner, the Redbone Coonhound, GCH CH Sidearm Jungle King Mufasa, the Cairn Terrier, GCH CH Connacht A Ha'Penny Will Do, the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, Orchard Hill Only Human, the Shiba Inu, CH Lee-Fen's An Everlasting Love, and the German Shepherd Dog, GCH CH Karizma’s Ike of Edale.

Scout and four of Saturday’s finalists would make it back to the final ring on Sunday.  They were joined in judge James Fredricksen’s ring were the Black Cocker Spaniel, CH Bib N tux Born This Way, and the eventual RBIS, the Afghan hound, GCH CH Jakar An Affair Most Wicked.    Scout is the winningest Great Dane in AKC history with 36 career BIS, 19 of which have come this year.

Next we return to the west coast and Northern California for the results of the Two Cities Kennel Club’s two shows in Yuba City CA.  The seven dogs that stayed all day Saturday to see BIS judge Fred Bassett were the English Springer Spaniel, GCH CH Segre's Brown Derby BN RA OA OAJ, the Basset Hound, GCH CH Topsfield-Sanchu Eenie Meenie Miney Moe, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Alisaton Blackbird v Allure Beaulane, the Border Terrier, GCH CH McHill's HRH Prince Gizmo House Of Gremlin, the Pomeranian, GCH CH CR Chase What Matters, the Bulldog, CH Mytoys Frontier Lady Pink Cadillac, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, GCH CH Mariel’s Harvest Moon.

Judge Bassett would choose the Springer, Derby, as his Best and the Pom, Chase, as his Reserve.   It’s the first BIS this year for the six year old dog.  Congratulations to breeder/owner  Donna Larson, owner Marian Mizelle, and handler Kelly J Shane.

The Doberman, Raven, the Pom, Chase, and the Corgi, Harvey, would all return on Sunday to judge Garry Newton’s final.  Joining them were the Brittany, GCH CH Britt’s Ramblin’ The Perfect Cut, the 15” Beagle, CH Ornre One Don’t Mess With Texas, the American Staffordshire Terrier, CH. Vaca Valley’s Bold Ruler For Fraja EC, and the Dalmatian, GCH CH  Hallmark Turbo Charged Lexus.

We renew our show reports with one from Plymouth WI where the Sheboygan Kennel Club held two shows this weekend.  One dog, the Doberman Pinscher, GCH CH Jaroe Legend Of Irish Spirit, helped himself to both the BIS.  On Saturday judge Marcia Feld chose Jim Bob out of a seven that included the English Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH Nonnies No Doubt, the Longhaired Dachshund, GCH CH Hundeleben Dancing Queen SL, her RBIS, the Russell Terrier, GCH CH Goldsands Columbus, the Pomeranian, CH Tab's Scootin' Boomer Of Storm, the Bichon Frise, GCH CH Vogelflight’s “Honor” to Pillowtalk, and the Briard, GCH CH La Vie Rose Dior-August-Moon CD RN.
