IT'S A DOG SHOW HAPPY MEAL

Big Horn Ram, Rocky Mountain National Park near Longmont CO

After last week’s super sized offering of 48 all breed shows, this coming weekend’s offerings seems like a Happy Meal in comparison.  However, do not despair.  There are just as many locales with shows this weekend as last, thirteen.  We just helping ourselves to smaller portions.  There are no five or four day clusters to test your stamina and only two three day stops on the schedule.

In New England, the Ladies' Dog Club & the Framingham District Kennel Club will  spend two days in Wrentham MA.  On the east shore of Lake Ontario the St Lawrence Valle Dog Club will be in Clayton NY for the weekend.  Down in Wrightstown PA, north of Philly, you can spend Friday, Saturday, & Sunday with the Greater Philadelphia Dog Fanciers Association, the Huntingdon Valley Kennel Club, & the Burlington County Kennel Club.    If you are in the Mid Atlantic, try the Charlottesville - Albemarle Kennel Club’s twofer in Charlottesville VA.

The Toldedo Kennel Club will head for the burbs for a weekend in Maumee OH.  Residents of the Windy City can head on up to Woodstock IL for a double header with the Fox River Valley Kennel Club.  Sooners can try their luck at the Southern Indiana Kennel Club two shows in Corydon IN, and yes that’s about as far south in Indiana as you can go.  The Mississippi Valley Kennel Club will set up for the weekend at the Purina Farms complex in Gray Summit MO, 40 miles west of St Louis.  We will be at the Olive Branch Kennel Club’s shows in Southaven MS, seven miles south of Graceland on Elvis Presley Blvd (Hwy 51).

If you yearn for the wide open spaces, you can spend three days with the Fargo-Moorhead Kennel Club I West Fargo ND. (We didn‘t know Fargo was big enough to partition.) or two days in Longmont CO, 35 miles north of Denver,  with the Flatirons Kennel Club.  West Coast folks will have to travel some, choosing between two days with the Yakima Valley Kennel Club in Yakima WA or two with Kennel Club of Pasadena in Pasadena CA, a little more than 1,000 miles south.  If last weekend was any indication, wherever you go you will be thrilled by the beautiful pure bred dogs of AKC.

BACKWARDS BIS IN ILLINOIS

CH Pepper Tree Zorro V Morganwald

We sometimes wonder if the dog show crowd in Illinois are Louis Carroll fans celebrating un-birthdays and living life in reverse.  This past weekend the first we heard from the four day Bloomington IL cluster was on Monday when we got…Monday’s results.  We next received the results from Saturday and Sunday.  We have waited 36 hours certain that someone would send in Friday results, but it seems we will have to wait until someone wearing their hat on backwards enters the data into the Onofrio computers.  Whatever they do in Illinois, we have been advised that time waits for no dog.  So we will give you what we got and get on with it.

The news is that the Standard Schnauzer, CH Pepper Tree Zorro V Morganwald, won last week’s Standard Schnauzer Club of America’s National Specialty and then followed it up with BACK2BACK BIS.  The Illinois Valley Kennel Club Of Peoria and the Corn Belt Kennel Club teamed up for the four show weekend with a first me, then you system.  On Saturday the CBKC asked Dawn Hansen to choose her Best.   In addition to the Schnauzer,  she had the option of the Golden Retriever, CH Glengowan’s Great Balls of Fire, the Whippet, CH Sporting Field’s Bahama Sands,  the White Bull Terrier, CH Bulliard’s Good Hearted Woman, the Pekingese, CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar, the Tibetan  Terrier, CH Ri Lee’s Stellar Performance, and the Australian Shepherd, CH Clemwood’s Nobel Laureate.

On Sunday, the IVKCP put James Reynolds  in the final ring with Zorro, the above named Tibetan Terrier & Aussie, the English Springer spaniel, CH Wil-O-Rion Twenty Twenty, the Bloodhound, CH Huggables Blue Lace Agate, the Border Terrier, CH Tyrolian Eight Belles At Meadowlake, and the King Charles & Ruby English Toy Spaniel, CH Southdown Nonetheless. Zorro’s regular handler Jody Paquette had the lead at the Specialty and Sunday’s final.  Jody’s partner, Leonardo Garcini, had the honor at Saturday’s show.   Congratulations Jody, Leonardo, breeders Earl Holst & Arden Holst, and owner Penny Duffee.
