TWO MORE BIS

We don’t have all the results, but we do have the names of two more BIS winners for you. The first is the Wire Haired Pointing Griffon, CH Flatbrooks Royal Point Attitude, who won his very first BIS all the way up in Palmer AK at Friday’s Cook Inlet Kennel Club show. Our congratulations to breeder Ginger Hughes, owners Richard & Lorine Byrne, and handler Valerie Nunes-Atkinson.

The country’s number two Working Dog, number eight dog all breeds, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, made it back to back NIS in Harrisburg PA at today’s Penn Ridge Kennel Club show. Looks like Scarlett and handler Diego Fernando Garcia are determined to improve on that number eight ranking.

CEEJAY, CJ, & THE CHIN

More heavy hitters were looking to improve their rankings today in Greensboro NC with Dr Robert Smith at the Carolina Kennel Club show.

CH Chindale’s Farah Fawcett

His seven were the German Wirehaired Pointer , CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena’s Carte Blanche, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Mac-Ken-Char’s Here I Am, the Japanese Chin, CH Chindale’s Farah Fawcett, the Bichon Frise, Rigae Miabella Sweet Georgia, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Shoal Creek’s Sangria V Barick.

Today, it wasn’t CeeJay, or even CJ, who won the BIS. It was Chin, Japanese Chin, that is, as the 20 month old bitch went over two top five dogs. We’re impressed. Are you impressed? She is new on the scene so you will have to forgive the puppy photo. She was bred by Dale Adams & Vincent Adam. Vince co-owns her with Jennifer Stevens & Maripi Wooldridge who handles her as well. Congratulations to them all.

ULI BEATS THE BOYS AGAIN

Your dedicated blogger is back at the hotel while the rest of our party parties. It’s rare that I will pass up cocktails for show reports, but such is the lot of the dog show junkie.

First we finally have a legitimate reason for late show reports from Wisconsin. Today’s Cudahy Kennel Club show never got underway as severe rain in the Milwaukee area caused cancellation of the event. Wisconsin fanciers are like Packers’ fans. Only the most severe weather will cause a cancellation. Apparently it was that bad. Our condolences to the Wisconsin folks.

CH Kepley's Showbiz Razzle Dazzle

Meanwhile, the dog folks in Ballston Spa NY are enjoying the perfect Adirondack summer at today’s Southern Adirondack Dog Club show. Jacqueline Stacy’s magnificent seven were the Parti-color Cocker Spaniel, CH Mario’s Grand Slam Playa, the 15” Beagle, CH Torquay’s Midnight Confession, the Rottweiler, CH Cammcastle's Hollywood First Lady , the Border Terrier, CH Meadowlake Over Night Celebrity, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

BIS went to Uli, the steamroller of a Bulldog, who has been running over her competition lately. You did notice that there were two top ten dogs in that final with her?

CEEJAY, NOT CJ

Once again we apologize for being a little late with show results. We are still in Washington DC at the mercy of hotel WIFI and the women in my life.

CH Rokeena Carte Blanche

First we have Friday’s results from Greensoboro NC, where we have several of our top ranked dogs swapping wins for the past couple of days. To recap, Wednesday it was the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, aka CeeJay going BIS. Thursday it was the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, aka CJ, who took the top prize. Both made Gloria Geringer's final today along with the German Wire Haired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Sudor Epoch Journey With Devonshire, the Japanese Chin, CH Chindale’s Farah Fawcett, the Bichon Frise, Rigae Miabella Sweet Georgia, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Shoal Creek’s Sangria V Barick.

Today's Greater Hickory Kennel Club Best In Show was the country’s top Hound and number five dog all breeds, the PBGV, CeeJay, not the Doberman, CJ. We know. It's confusing to us too. How do these dogs and handlers turn up the heat like this in the second half of the year? We think no one should be too comfortable right now. Everyone seems to be bringing their “A" game.

IT'S THE BOXER IN HARRISBURG

We have partial results from Harrisburg PA where it’s day one for the Penn Ridge Kennel Club. The first day final was judged by Peter Baynes. His BIS was the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream. Scarlett has not received the attention that the number one working dog has, but she is still sitting at the number seven all breed spot.

CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream

Also on hand in the final were two other top twenty dogs, the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Ripsnorter’s Mt View Lookout, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, as well as the BIS winning Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Riverside Wicked Wonderful. If anyone knows the Terrier, Toy, & Non-Sporting winners, please share.

PULI ADDS ANOTHER BIS

We are now in Arlington VA back in our hotel room after installing our daughter in the Washington DC apartment that is to be her home for the next four years while she pursues an advanced degree at Georgetown. With the miracle of WIFI we still get to send you show reports.

CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams

Up in Ballston Spa NY, it’s day two and the host club is the Mohawk Valley Kennel Club. Best In Show duty was ably accomplished by Terry Stacy. His finalists were the Golden Retriever, CH Tempo’s U’ve Got What Gets Me, the Afghan Hound, CH Pizzazzz Debonair JC, the Giant Schnauzer, CH Skansen’s C’Sofia Of Grandeur, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Manoir’s Match Pointe, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

It was the nation’s one Herding Dog, the Puli, Conrad, who took home the BIS. Conrad has not received as much attention as number one and number two, but he sits firmly in the number three all breed spot, ready to move up if he is given any opening.

TOY POODLE BIS IN BALLSTON SPA

We are overnighting in Knoxville TN on our way to Washington DC. Happily, we now have the WIFI operational in our hotel room and can now tell you the Ballston Spa NY results.

CH Smash Jp Moon Walk

Paula Hartinger had the Best In Show duty today for the Glens Falls Kennel Club. Her finalists were the Brittany, CH Tonan-Hope’s R U Kiddin’ Me, the Whippet, CH Snowcap’s Sierra Rose, the Newfoundland, CH Tempest’s Kilyka, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Manoir’s Match Pointe, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, yesterday’s BIS winner, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

BIS went to the US’ number one Toy Dog, the Poodle, Walker. We currently have Walker as the number eight dog all breeds.

CJ ADDS ANOTHER BIS

It was day two today in Greensboro NC for the Danville Kennel Club and Joan Schurr Kefeli was the lucky judge who made the Best In Show choice.

CH Bret D Gabriel's Lost Art

The seven beauties asking for the BIS were the German Wire Haired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile Hi Valentine, yesterday’s BIS winner, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Bedlington Terrier, CH Sudor Epoch Journey With Devonshire, the Japanese Chin, CH Chindales Farah Fawcett, the Dalmatian, CH Bret D Gabriel's Lost Art, and the German Shepherd Dog, CH Shoal Creek Sangria V Barick.

And it was CJ, the Doberman, keeping the pressure up with another BIS. This red girl is red hot.

BULLDOG JUST KEEPS ROLLING

Ballston Spa NY is 175 miles and a world away from Manhattan. Exhibitors may have escaped the rat race of the Big Apple, but they certainly haven’t escaped the grueling competition that is the New York dog game.

CH Kepley's Showbiz Razzle Dazzle

The five day visit to the Adirondacks started with Dr John Ioia directing the final ring of the Saratoga New York Kennel Club. Vying for a nod were the Brittany, CH Tonan-Hope's R U Kiddin' Me, the 15” Beagle, CH Torquay’s Midnight Confession, the Rottweiler, CH Cammcastle's Hollywood First Lady, the Border Terrier, CH Meadowlake Overnight Celebrity, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

She had two BIS last week and she added another today. She is the winningest Bulldog bitch in our memory. How soon will we see her in the all breed top 25? You’ll see it here first.

PBGV BIS IN GREENSBORO

Some of the top ranked dogs that were in Salem VA last week are in Greensboro NC this week. The Danville Kennel Club kicked off the five day stop with Dr Carmen Battaglia commanding the BIS ring.

CH Rokeena Carte Blanche

His finalists were the Black Coker Spaniel, CH Bracon’s Leapin Lily Pads, the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Mac-Ken-Char’s Here I Am, the Silky Terrier, CH Mtnview Prince Chbaka Ekruro, the Bulldog, CH Avalon Patch-Adams, and the Bearded Collie, CH Briarpatch Look At That CD HT AXJ AX RE

BIS went to the country’s number one hound, the PBGV, CeeJay. After a couple of weekends watching others grab the top spot, the number five dog all breeds demonstrated that he and handler Jane Alston-Meyers are in this race to the end.

WESTIE HAT TRICK IN BISMARK

There were not a lot of points available at the Bismark’s Kennel Club’s four shows this past week. However, the West Highland White Terrier, CH Arbroath’s Rosewood Rise N’ Shine, certainly made the most of them, winning four Terrier Groups and three BIS.

CH Arbroath’s Rosewood Rise N’ Shine

Congratulations to breeders Dee Donaldson, R Weckman, A Gieseking & B Weber, owners John Low MD & William Matthews III MD, and handler Bergit H Kabel.

YESTERDAY'S NEWS

We know that this is yesterday’s news…well, actually, it’s Saturday’s and Sunday’s news. You may recall (maybe not, we have short attention spans) that we told you of a young Golden Retriever that moved up from the classes and went all the way to two BIS Saturday and Sunday in Marion IL. That was Owling’s Designed By Signature at the Crab Orchard kennel Club’s two shows.

CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu

Now we have the names of the other finalists. Saturday James White had the Otterhound, CH Adeline’s Sticky Wicket, the CH Phillmar Sobe Monster, the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH Pinnacle’s Pinball Wizard, the Pug, CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu, the Chow Chow, CH Sunburst’s Patent Pending, and the German Shepherd Dog, Vonshore’s Mischief Maker II.

CLUSTER CRAZY

Once again, our dog show week starts early with two locations out of the gate on Wednesday. It’s beautiful in upstate New York this time of year and you can combine the scenery with five dog shows in Ballston Spa courtesy of the Southern Adirondack Dog Club and the Saratoga New, Glens Falls, Mohawk Valley, & Bennington County Kennel Clubs. There are also five shows available to fanciers in Greensboro NC hosted by the Danville, Greater Hickory, & Carolina Kennel Clubs.

Saratoga Lake near Ballston Spa NY

However, there will probably be just as many, if not more, points in the three days starting Friday in Harrisburg PA where the Penn Ridge & Harrisburg Kennel Clubs will team up. You can do four days in Wisconsin though you will have to break camp after spending Friday & Saturday in South Milwaukee with the Cudahy Kennel Club and drive 15 miles to Racine to pass two days with the Greater Racine Kennel Club. (Here’s a hint, show managers, exhibitors don’t like to move. It’s a pain in the butt.)

Harrisburg PA

Meanwhile 350 miles to the west, the Kennel Club Of Freeborn County, Minnesota, will host a traditional Saturday/Sunday weekend in Albert Lea MN. Likewise there are two day stops in Little Rock AR (Arkansas Kennel Club), Corpus Christi TX (Corpus Christi Kennel Club), & Torrance CA (South Bay Kennel Club). The Lorain County Kennel Club will have a one day stop Sunday in Henrietta Township, 40 miles west of Cleveland.

Corpus Christi TX

Finally, the folks in Alaska will celebrate summer with three shows in Palmer presented by the Cooks Inlet Kennel Club.

RAINY RESULTS

We heard from an exhibitor who was at yesterday’s Hunterdon Hills Kennel Club show in Ringoes NJ. She tells us that the weather was so nasty that there was not a dry catalog to be had anywhere. So these results are from memory.

CH Riverside Wicked Wonderful

Carl Gomes’ final included the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, the Whippet, CH Sportingfield's Glory Bound, the Bernese Mountain Dog CH Trevis Lone Star, the American Staffordshire Terrier, CH Gekko’s Fly Me To The Moon, the Long Coat Chihuahua, a Tibetan Terrier to be named later, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi, CH Riverside Wicked Wonderful.

CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm

His BIS was the Corgi, Deidre. That’s number three for Deidre this year and Breeder/owner/handler Deb Shindle. Now can somebody tell us who the Tibetan Terrier was?

LA CROSSE WISCONSIN FINALISTS

CH Tramac just Walk’N On Sunshine

We had given you partial reports from La Crosse WI. We told you that the Papillion, CH Queen Bless Jp World Idol, and the American Foxhound, CH Kiarry’s Foolish Pride, split the Coulee Kennel Club’s two BIS. BI-COASTAL

Now we go bi-coastal with results from New England and Northern California. First in Region One, the Northeast Region, we’ve given you the results on the Pioneer Valley Kennel Club’s Saturday show in Greenville MA and we told you that the English Setter, CH Reidwood Red Alert, went BIS at Sunday’s Cheshire Kennel Club show in Keene NH.

CH Wannabee Biker Bob

We’ve visited the Richmond Kennel Club once this weekend in Dixon CA. Here’s Sunday’s results. MONDAY MORNING MASHUP

It’s Monday Morning Mash Up time and reports are trickling in. We will give them to you as they arrive. We will try to go slowly and methodically so not to confuse us. We are going to start down here in our part of the world, Region Five, the South Central Region. This area may have the reputation for being slow and gracious, but we do get our show results in on time.

CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar

We did give you a peek at the going’s on in the Big Easy. You may recall that we told you that the Vizsla, CH Renaissance Girls Gone Wild, was BIS at Friday’s Louisiana Kennel Club in Kenner LA. Her fellow finalists in Dr Ronald Spritzer’s ring were the Norwegian Elkhound, CH Vin Melcas Master Card, the Rottweiler, CH Cammcastles Hollywood First Lady, the Lakeland Terrier, CH Hi-Kel Terrydale Soldier Of Fortune, the Pekingese, CH Franshaw Hear Me Roar, the Bulldog, CH Legacy Empress Of The Copa, and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi, CH Twinroc Santa Paws HICs.

DARK HORSE GOLDEN IN ILLINOIS

Week after week we play armchair quarterback and report on our doggy athletes. Like a bookie handicapping horses, we look over old results, talk to experts, and listen to handlers & breeders talk about their latest prospects. We think we do a relatively creditable job on assessing the show crowd.

Owling’s Designed By Signature

However, it takes a seasoned eye and more than a little courage to spot a newcomer, give it a breed win, maybe a group win, or,most daringly, a BIS. This weekend in Marion IL it happened not just once, but twice, at the Crab Orchard Kennel Club’s two shows. The Golden Retriever, Owling’s Designed By Signature, was moved up from the classes and went the distance both days, taking Best In Show on Saturday under James White and on Sunday under Joseph Gregory.

Congratulations to breeders Rita Langford & Kate Stirrat, and owners Ginny Kladis, Molly Childers, Sussan Rich & Rita La. Ginny Kladis handled him to the win. Keep an eye out for this three year old boy.

NEW HAMPSHIRE BIS

CH Reidwood Red Alert

We just heard that the country’s top winning English Setter, CH Reidwood Red Alert, has taken home the BIS trophy from today’s Cheshire Kennel Club in Keene NH. This is number two this year for Navy. Congratulations to breeders Nancy E Warner & Clifford & Iris Reid, owner Georgette Perry, and handler Candy Carswell.

A PAIR OF WISCONSIN BIS

We have this from La Crosse WI where the Coulee Kennel Club held a pair of shows this weekend. Saturday, Michael Dachel chose the Papillion, CH Queen Bless Jp World Idol, his BIS. We believe this to be her first all breed BIS. Congratulations to breeder/owner Chie Ejima, co-owners Madeline Mosing, H Hibara & J Alseth, and handler Brian Livingston.

CH Kiarry’s Foolish Pride

Sunday, it was Jacqueline Stacy’s turn to chose the top dog and she chose the quintessential American dog, the American Foxhound, CH Kiarry’s Foolish Pride. Again, we think this is Jojo’s first all breed Best. Bravo to breeders Leslie, Donna & Faith Millman & Diane Shearer, owners Beverly Wyckoff & Harry & Lisa Miller, and handler Scott Kipp. Our thanks to Derek Glas for the handsome photo.

ANOTHER BULLDOG BEST

As exciting as the Salem VA gathering was, the weekend’s big prize was to be had in Canfield OH where the Mahoning-Shenango Kennel Club closed a four day fete with a four day total of almost 7,500 points.

CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle

It was Esther Joseph that had the pleasure of choosing a BIS winner from the German Wirehaired Pointer, CH Star K’s Mile High Valentine, the Scottish Deerhound, CH Foxcliffe Hickory Wind, the Rottweiler, CH Ecko Ridge‘s American Justice V Vonwilhelms, the Irish Terrier, CH Fleet St Fenway, the Miniature Pinscher, CH Kimro‘s Soldier Boy, yesterday’s BIS winner, the Bulldog, CH Kepley’s Showbiz Razzle Dazzle, and the Bouvier, CH Quiche’s Demetrius.

BIS went to the Bulldog, her second this week. A month ago this lovely example of Bulldog femininity was well under most people’s radar. This weekend catapults her all the way to the top scoring non-sporting dog and a top 20 all breed ranking.

A DOG SHOW FEAST

Reporting on this week’s Salem VA cluster, we feel like we have just worked our way through a sumptuous five course meal, five days of the best that dogdom has to offer.

CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton

The New River Valley Kennel Club offered up our dessert course today with Bonnie Linnell Clarke judging. Her final included five top 15 dogs. The final seven were the Irish Setter, CH Shadagee Caught Red Handed, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Doberman Pinscher, CH Allure Blazing Star Alisaton, the Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash Jp Moon Walk, the Standard Poodle, CH Dawin Spitfire, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

The extraordinary story of the weekend is the riveting performance of the Doberman, CJ, and handler Carissa DeMilta Shimpeno. Reader after reader told us that they had rarely seen such intensity in the ring, “She never put a foot wrong”, “She looked right through you”. Today, for the fourth time this week, CJ and Carissa accepted a BIS rosette.

In the end it was the dog show going public that was the week’s big winner. It was the most celebrated gathering since Westminster and there were five consecutive final rings. It was truly a canine World Series.

A THOUSAND THANKS

We’ve learned over the years to celebrate life’s milestones. We believe it’s important to take notice of where you’ve been in order to maintain your sense of direction. So it’s with some satisfaction that we note that this is our 1,000th post.

When we wrote our inaugural article, Dog Show Junkie, we never anticipated that we would be this verbose, We fully expected that one or two entries a week would be sufficient to keep our interest. However, once reintroduced to the fancy we loved for over 40 years, we found there was just too much to share with other dog lovers. What we should have remembered is how welcoming the dog world is, how many generous people there are in this sport, and how enthusiastic the dog show going public is.

So we thank all of our readers, especially all those who have participated in this blog by sharing their wins, offering breed expertise, and e-mailing in show reports. We hope we can continue to be informative, entertaining, and useful to this terrific community that is the world of AKC dog shows.

RICHMOND DFA RESULS

We start this morning with a report from yesterday’s Richmond Dog Fanciers day one show in Dixon CA.

CH Mojo’s Rock’N Your World
