Judge Bivin liked the Vizsla, Mason, who was his RBIS, and the Basset, Tiger, his BIS.  Bassets get over looked a lot (I know, it’s a shameful word play), but Tiger and handler Bryan Martin are showing judges, exhibitors, & spectators that there’s more to the Hound Group than Sighthounds.  The steady team has garnered four BIS (two in the last week) and 34 Hound Groups this year.

Taking home the top two prizes at the opener were the Lab, RJ, who got the RBIS and the GSD, Solo, who got the BIS.  It must have seemed like déjà vu for Solo and handler Michael Reed.  They had made the final at the 2011 Newton Kennel Club show.  This time they walk away with their very first BIS.  Congratulations to Michael, breeder/owner Kathleen Salvucci, and owners Priscilla Hays & Brad Hill.

Friday our Number Two Dog, the German Wirehaired Pointer, GCH CH Mt View’s Ripsnorter Silver Charm, was in Topeka KS picking up his second BIS of the week at the Manhattan Kansas Kennel Club show.  Yesterday, Oakley and handler Phil Booth were in Chagrin Falls OH at the Western Reserve Kennel Club show, collecting yet another top prize.

We will have to wait until we get the numbers mid week to know exactly where out Top Two Dogs stand, but we can tell you now that Oakley’s 44th BIS of the season has narrowed the gap between him and the Number One Dog, but has not eliminated it.

ST CROIX VALLEY KC

GCH CH Thaon’s Mowgli

One place we haven’t visited this week is Lake Elmo MN where the St Croix Valley Kennel Club was camped for two days.  One dog made the most of it, taking both of the big rosettes home to California.

GCH CH AfterAll Painting the Sky

The second biggest cluster this weekend was out in beautiful Santa Barbara CA.  Yesterday, the Wire Fox Terrie, AfterAll Painting the Sky, followed two consecutive days of playing bridesmaid to break through to grab the BIS at yesterday’s Santa Barbara Kennel Club show.

Sky’s 22nd BIS of the year will not be good enough to catch the Number Three Dog, but then Sky has another shot at a big rosette at today’s Conejo Kennel Club show.
