CH Pequest Match Point

While we await the results of the groups judging in Long Beach, we have some show news from Cleveland OH and the Richland County Kennel Club Show. The country’s number 19 dog and number one Pekingese, CH Pequest Match Point picked up a BIS from Judge Robert Moore. Absent from the festivites in Cleveland was the Harrier, CH Downhome Family Tradition. Coda’s co-owner, Susan Lowder, is a second generation dog person, the daughter of AKC judge Terry Stacy, who was judging in Cleveland today. So, Coda had to take a pass on the show. Coda’s absence notwithstanding, our congratulations go out to David Fitzpatrick and Sasha Rockefeller for a very deserved Best In Show.

A reader has just advised me that the Giant Schnauzer, CH Galilee's Pure Of Spirit, took advantage of having the day off to slip out of the Long Beach Convention Center and fly off to Bethlehem PA and accept a BIS award from Judge Jon Cole. That bit of strategy has pulled Spirit to within striking distance of the number one dog, the Pointer, CH Cookieland Seasyde Hollyberry. By my numbers, Holly leads Spirit by about 500 points, making tomorrow's final in Long Beach even more suspenseful. Remember, boys and girls, national championship's are not won inside the show ring alone. I'm sure Holly's team knows that there are only four more shows this year, all in San Mateo CA, conveniently in Spirit's backyard. Who would have thought that a national championship would be decided on the last four days of the year?
