ANIMAL PLANET DOG CHAMPIONSIPS 2009

If you can’t get out to an AKC dog show this weekend, you can still see one of the ten largest dog shows this year in the comfort of your family room, assuming your family room is equipped with a television.

The Harrisburg Kennel Club’s Aprill 11th show will be broadcast on Animal Planet this Saturday evening, July 25th, at 8:00 PM EST, with an encore performance at 11:00 PM. With over 3,000 entries, the HKC event drew several of the top dogs in the US. SHOWS EVERYWHERE

It’s Wednesday and that means a look at our coming weekend of shows. We have more shows to look forward to this weekend than last, but only by a few.

Abraham Lincoln, 1809-1865

In Region One, the Northeast Region, we have two sites and four shows. In New England we have a one night stand on Saturday with the Providence County Kennel Club hosting one show in Lincoln RI (We always wondered how a state founded two centuries before our 16th President’s administration came to name a town after him)

Bob Jones University
Greenville South Carolina

Out on the western edge of Region One, in Bloomsburg PA, the Lakawanna Kennel Club and the BaldEagle Kennel Club of Williamsport PA will join forces to stage three shows Friday through Sunday. Idle last weekend, Region Two, the Southeast Region will have a three day weekend starting Friday in Greenville SC courtesy of the Spartanburg, Hendersonville, and Greenville Kennel Clubs.

Wisconsin Cheesehead

For those with more time on their hands, there are four day stops in Region Three the Great Lakes Region. In Marion OH, the Dan Emmett and Marion Ohio Kennel Clubs will each hold two shows starting Friday. You can also do four shows in Region Four, the North Central Region, though you will have to move a bit. Saturday and Sunday the Waukesha Kennel Club will hold two shows in Waukesha WI. Then, Monday and Tuesday, the Burlington Wisconsin Kennel Club will post a pair in Elkhorn WI, 33 miles to the southwest.

Dungeness Spit, Sequim Washington

Regions Five, Six, & Seven (the South Central, Northwest, & Southwest Regions) all will be represented by traditional two day weekends. In Texas, it the Longview Kennel Club in Longview; in Washington, it’s the Hurricane Ridge Kennel Club Of Washington (You know they don’t have hurricanes in the Pacific) in Sequim; and in California, it’s the Lompac Valley Kennel Club in Lompoc. So you have at least two chances to visit an AKC dog show in your region this weekend. What you waiting for?

On Saturday, the missing dogs were the Golden Retriever, CH Avalor's INXS, the French Bulldog, CH Starhaven Allenhill's Lock N Load, and the Bouvier des Flandres, CH Desert Sage Musketeer. HELP US WITH WISCONSIN

There were shows in one locale this past weekend on which we have not received a complete report. We’ve been told that there was no AKC rep present in Wisconsin, so we will, once again, have to rely on our readers.

CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu

The Paper Cities Kennel Club held a pair of shows in Weston WI Saturday and Sunday. We did tell you that the Pug, CH Tupelo ShoBoat Tu China Tu, picked up the BIS at Saturday’s Show. We now know that Boo was accompanied in the final ring by the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen, CH Rokeena Carte Blanche, the Newfoundland, CH Skipper's Eminence King Of Helluland, and the Smooth Fox Terrier, CH J’Cobe Kemosabe Vigilante Justice. Hopefully one of our readers will let us know the names of the Golden Retriever, the French Bulldog, and the Bouvier des Flandres that were also in Houston Clark’s final.

CH Skipper's Eminence King Of Helluland

On Sunday, Boo, the PBGV, CeeJay, the Smooth Fox, Dodger, (that’s three top ten dogs right there) and the Newfie, Lincoln, went back to joust for the top prize. Robert Shreve’s BIS was the country’s number one Newfoundland, Lincoln. It’s the first BIS this year for the Slovakian born dog. Congratulations to breeder Bela Siklosi and owners Laura Vande Ven & Peggy Helming.

BIS went to the Rott, Rudy, his second this year.

HOUSTON, DAYS ONE & TWO

Houston Texas was the focus of the dog show world this weekend. With daily entries nearing the 3,000 dog mark, group placements there were worth a BIS in most venues.

We did tell you that Jon Cole’s BIS at Friday’s Houston Kennel Club show was our number one dog all breeds, the intrepid Scottish Terrier, CH Roundtown Mercedes Of Maryscot. Sadie has all but sewn up the national championship, with more points in in six and a half months than the number four dog amassed in twelve in 2008.

CH Flatbrook Royalpoint Attitude

Jon Cole’s other finalists on Friday were the Wirehaired Pointing Griffon, CH Flatbrook Royalpoint Attitude, the Petit Bassett Griffon Vendeen, CH Afterglow Ebeneezer, the Alaskan Malamute, CH Sno Klassic Play The Game, the Pekingese, CH Deja Vu True Grit From Shambala, the Lhasa Apso, CH Rushmar’s Charmer, and the Puli, CH Cordmaker Field Of Dreams.

Also looking for a look were the Irish Setter, CH Vineyard’s Bad Boy, and the Affenpinscher, CH Tamarin Tug.

BIS went to the Lhasa, Buzz. In just two weekends, Buzz has catapulted from the 13th highest scoring Non-Sporting dog to the fourth highest scoring. That’s all we have for now. We shall now go harass our sources for the missing results from Pennsylvania and Texas.

MEDIAN OHIO

Medina Ohio saw a pair of shows this weekend. Our earlier report on Satturday’s show was missing a couple of names. The Basset Hound, CH Barnyard Legends Of The Fall, and the Norwich Terrier, CH Elysium's Ciao Bella, were the two unnamed finalists in Peter Green’s Saturday final.

CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely

On Sunday, it was the Richland County Kennel Club with James Noe calling the BIS. PENNSYLVANIA PARTIAL RESULTS

The Nita Nee (we’d love to know the derivation of that one) Kennel Club held their two shows in Centre Hall PA in Central Pennsylvania. We only have Saturday’s results at this time.

CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle

Day one saw Joan Anselm and the English Cocker Spaniel, CH Sweet Apple Sir Prize, the Irish Wolfhound, CH Dun Myrica Speaker Of Eagle, the Rottweiler, CH Ecko Ridge’s American Justice V Von Wilhelm’s, the Airedale Terrier, CH Stirling Cool Hand Luke, the Affenpinscher, CH Velvet Dandy’s Dipsy, the French Bulldog, CH Celestial Gotham’s Limited Edition, and the Rough Collie, CH Kelso’s Moon Dancin PT.

BIS went to the Wolfhound, the country’s second highest scoring Hound. The four year old is currently the number 17 dog all breeds. We’ll be right back with results from Ohio.

MAKING THE MOST OF A FEW SHOWS

This was the least active dog show weekend so far this year, and believe it or not, we still don’t have all the results. Here’s what we do know. The Putnam Kennel Club moved their weekend up a day, holding their first of two shows on Friday in Stormville, NY.

CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream

Dr Donald Strurz was up to bat first. His seven were the Labrador Retriever, CH Casbar’s Hart To Hart, the Rhodesian Ridgeback, CH Of Afrikka Spring Valley Dorain Gray JC, the Boxer, CH Winfall Brookwood Styled Dream, the Miniature Schnauzer, CH Kelly's Steele's The Spotlight, the Toy Poodle, CH Smash JP Moon Walk, the Tibetan Spaniel, CH Lorac's Yeshe Wongchhu, and the Briard, CH Deja Vu Up Close & Personal.

NEW CHAMPION, NEW BIS WINNER

One of our dog show axioms is you never can predict the outcome of an AKC dog show. It’s one of the reasons we’ve being going to shows for 40 plus years. Today’s Portland Kennel Club show had Mr. Ekarat Sangkunakup from Thailand in charge of the final ring.

CH Gaia of Yoshida Enterprise Jp

His chose from the Golden Retriever, CH Gaia of Yoshida Enterprise Jp, the Black & Tan Coonhound, CH Silver Ridge Showtyme At Windbourne, yesterday’s BIS winner, the Boxer, CH Duba Dae’s Who’s Your Daddy, the Kerry Blue Terrier, CH Perrisblu Paris, the Brussels Griffon, CH Cashin`s Walk The Line, the Bichon Frise, CH Mybliss Petite Coquette, and gthe Bouvier des Flandres, CH Avalon Frontier Sleepnlady Webber.

BIS went to the new AKC champion, the Golden, Gaia. It was the three year old’s first AKC all breed BIS. Congratulations to breeder Miyoko Yoshida, owner Kazunari Oshima, and handler Laurie Jordan-Fenner.

MEDINA OHIO RESULTS

We can’t always count on AKC or MBF to publish Saturday results, but we can count on our readers to keep us informed. One such reader sent in this report on Saturday’s Medina (OH) Kennel Club show.

The seven worthy finalists were the Vizsla, CH Plaza’s Willow Weep For Me, an unnamed Basset Hound, the Giant Schnauzer, CH Skansen’s Sir August Brigs, an unidentified Norwich Terrier, the Chinese Crested, CH Kamikazi’s Star Kissed, the Standard Poodle, CH Hillwood Dassin De-Lovely, and the Old English Sheepdog, CH Lambluv Daydream Believer.

Peter Green’s BIS was the Giant, Brigs. It was the second this year for the three year old. Now if someone can tell us the names of the Basset and Norwich.
