SCHNAUZER DAY AT MEMPHIS KC

GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Bay

I spent a pleasant day in the Memphis suburb of Southaven MS at the day one show of the Memphis Kennel Club.  Memphis takes its dog shows seriously (the first dog show held in the US was held in Memphis on June 28th, 1859) and today’s show, though only 882 entries, had quality from top to bottom.  The Papillon ring had the three top breed leaders in competition.   Today the breed winner was GCH CH Wildfire On the Record.  Greta not only took the breed, but also topped the Toy Group.

GCH CH Blackhawk Finnegan's Wake

Greta and handler Larry Cornelius were joined in Carolyn Taylor’s final by the  Black Cocker Spaniel, GCH CH PBJ's Fearless, the Ibizan Hound, CH Serandia East So Big Star, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Blackhawk Finnegan's Wake, the Miniature Schnauzer, GCH CH Allaruth Just Kidding v Sole Bay, the Bulldog, GCH CH Mytoys Epic Against the Wind, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Harmony Hill Money Talks.

Finishing one/two were the two Schnauzers, Best to the Miniature, Reserve to the Standard.  Justin is the country’s  Number Four Terrier, with 12 BIS and 40 Terrier Groups.   That’s four Terrier BIS this week so far.  Did we tell you we have already bought our tickets for Montgomery County?

Here in Memphis it’s the 36th anniversary of Elvis’ death.  Really, it’s a big deal.  Just down the road from Graceland dog fanciers were having a whole lot more fun at the day two show of the Olive Branch Kennel Club.

Father Brian Timby chose his top two from the Pointer, GCH CH Chesterhope State Of T Art, the Saluki, GCH CH Appalachia’s Allamyrra Hajji, the Standard Schnauzer, GCH CH Blackhawk Finnegan’s Wake, the Skye Terrier, CH Cragsmoor Goodtime Charlie, the Papillon, GCH CH Widfire On The Record, the Bulldog, GCH CH Mytoys Epic Against the Wind, and the Australian Shepherd, GCH CH Harmony Hill Money Talks.

It was the Bulldog, Ralph,  rolling over the competition.  Cashing in on the Reserve was the Aussie, Cash.   Ralph, the country’s Number One Bulldog, has been working his way up the rankings this summer.  This win, his second in 12 final appearances, could put him in the Top ten Non-Sporting Dogs.  We will have to wait until all the weekend resultsare in to find out.
